Unfortunately for me I did not care for the narration of this story and it clouded my opinion greatly. I think I’m the future I will try the story again however I will read it versus listening to it this time.

This audiobook pulled me into the story very quickly. I have only listed to a few audiobooks so far and I am finding them to be a wonderful way to fit reading into a very busy schedule! I have two children 5 and under with another on the way and I desperately miss having time to lose myself in the book. An audiobook is an excellent compromise. I can listen for a few minutes here and there throughout the day while doing dishes, making dinner, folding laundry, or running errands. I love it!

Back to this audiobook: I found myself listening to this wonderful book as often as I could. It had quite a few twists and turns and I honestly did not expect the ending. I pride myself in being able to call an ending, but this one had me till the last chapter. The audiobook version also adds a wonderful feature of being read by two different people so you can easily envision the two sides of this story being told and you do not get confused when it switches between them. There are not many books that I would recommend listening to over reading, but this one was so well done that I highly recommend that avenue!

The story itself was well written and keeps your attention throughout. The mystery is compelling and even when you think you may have it figured out, it surprises you. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good mystery and enjoys a whodunnit with a twist.

I give this audiobook 5 stars.

I loved this book up until the end, and then I didn’t.

This book was so engaging I finished it in one day. The characters were very well developed. I could see this being made into a movie. I loved the fast past and all the twists.

I subtracted one star because it had one too many twists at the end and left several details unexplained. I kept flipping back and rereading chapters to see if I missed something. At the beginning of the book, I enjoyed the author leading me in the wrong direction. I realized right away I needed to read carefully. The first time she tried to lead the reader to a killer I remembered an important detail that contradicted that person as the killer. After that, the twists did not always explain themselves. I kept thinking the end would explain all the discrepancies, but it left several unanswered questions. (I know what I am saying is confusing, but I am trying not to give spoilers.)

I felt the same way when I read my first Alice Feeney book, Sometimes I Lie. I still love her books and will read more written by Alice. Her ideas are so original and I love the characters she creates. I guess it’s not all bad that the endings are a little ambiguous. It keeps me thinking about the book and would make a good book club book because there would be lots of debate on the details and plenty of discussion on better endings. I wanted so badly to give this book five stars, hopefully, the next one I can.

I received this book from NetGalley.

Alice Feeney returns with a vengeance with another well thought out and twisty thriller to keep readers eagerly listening to "just one more chapter" - talk about lying to yourself!

Anna was returning to work as a television reporter and news presenter after her maternity leave, only to find that the woman who was supposed to be her temporary replacement has made herself quite comfortable and is not going anywhere - in fact she not only took over the job Anna took leave from, she took over the job Anna was working towards. Now struggling to balance the needs of her family with the demands of her cut-throat work environment, Anna is trying to have it all, and is determined to do whatever it takes to reclaim her rightful position at the news desk.

When Anna is dispatched to cover a recently discovered murder, she sees it as an opportunity to try and reclaim her position behind the anchor desk and to get back on track for her planned career path, but instead she finds herself in the middle of the murder investigation when the victim turns out to be an old childhood friend. But she is not the only one, Detective Jack Harper soon becomes a suspect as well. What is true, what is just perception, and what are lies? The truth is elusive, hiding in the shadows of this story. impossible to see in its entirety until the very end. Just the way it should be in a good twisty thriller!

This audiobook was narrated by Richard Armitage and Stephanie Racine and I could not imagine better casting. Both performed extremely well, but I cannot say enough about the creep factor in Richard Armitage's performance as an anonymous male narrator. So deep and dark...a perfect addition to Feeney's already engaging, dark tale!

Feeney's writing is enthralling and edgy in its own right, but this book, I suspect, is even better as an audiobook.

Happy Reading,
Christine

So this was the first audiobook ARC that I got to finish through Netgalley and I’m so excited to be able to share my thoughts with you on this! I am an audiobook fanatic, and I always love to recommend a good one when I come across them, so let’s see what I thought about for this one.

This is a murder thriller story, with multiple POVs. We hear his side of the story, her side, and the murderer’s side. This is one of those books where I feel like being in an audiobook format gives you the best experience of the story, although it can work out just fine reading it physically.

The interesting thing about his and her side of the story is that they are ex-spouses, but they don’t know everything about one another. This is really the main reason why neither of them truly trust one another, even with them being in a long term relationship and marriage. The reasonings for why they are not together today, and for why being in Blackdown is so crucial to their past and the present mystery today was also something really intriguing to hear about. I feel like you hear more about the past from Anna than you do from Jack since it seems like Anna’s past is the reason why everything that is happening today is going on around her. If anything, Jack is just the detective figure on this case and he just so happened to be Anna’s ex husband and that’s why he’s involved. It doesn’t make it less of a thriller though, and later on towards the end of the novel, you can see how Jack may have been a little bit more involved than he initially thought.

The main thing that I will say though: nothing is as it seems.

See my tweet thread of me thinking that I knew who the murderer was and still being wrong when the very ending came up and you get to hear who the true murderer is! It freaked me out so much, and wow it just blew me away. I’m not much of a thriller person – meaning I don’t always read thriller novels as my go-to genres – but dang this was one of the best books that I got to listen to this year! I have already been recommending it to people who like thrillers and haven’t had a chance to experience this novel yet. I still highly recommend the audiobook if that’s your thing, OR if you’re willing to try it out… I think you should!

The narrators for this novel were Richard Armitage and Stephanie Racine. Now… who was the narrator for the murderer? Well, I can’t tell you that because I don’t know either… for the most part.

Silly gif aside, it really was a freaky way to make the murderer truly involved in this narrative. With masking the true identity of the killer, not just through the words of the story, but the way that you can’t tell whether the killer is a man or a woman, young or old, anything that could be considered a cue to their identity. Making this into an audiobook makes it that much easier to really show a difference between the people telling the story and giving it that kind of thriller feel that you sometimes can’t get just with text. I do feel like this novel would still be great to read physically, but I must say that listening to it was much better for me to get into the story and want to know what was going to happen next.

Even when the final chapter came along – which was a point of view as well and takes place after the main events of the story – I was still guessing who was the murderer and why everything happened the way it did. It was just absolutely amazing and I’m really happy with the choices of narrators that we have for this audiobook. The choice of narrators and how they voice a character – or multiple if it’s a third person POV – really makes or break my enjoyment of an audiobook for me. Luckily, this one was a huge success.

I think the narration flow really worked well with this one, and it felt so intense. The flow of this story was well done, even with some of the moments where Anna would reminisce on what happened during her pre-teen years. Since she was just thinking about it, and it wasn’t considered an official flashback – at least in my case I didn’t consider them as such – those transitions made complete sense to me and I could see how Anna was thinking back on what she felt at the time, but also reflecting on what happened to her now that she is an adult and knows better. It didn’t feel like there was any question on what was happening, or what point of view we were listening to during those times, which really helped me follow along with the story.

Sometimes I feel like thrillers can jump around especially when the author is trying to give the hero and the murderer / unsub similar amount of page time, but even though this murderer didn’t have as many chapters as Anna and Jack, their chapters were still very much crucial to the story and had enough weight to keep up with the other two main characters. Also someone please tell me how I thought the main character’s name was Richard for some reason? That’s the worst mistake I’ve ever made.

All in all, I think that this was a great book to read, and a really great audiobook to listen to. I am so glad that Netgalley started providing audiobook arcs to us to listen to because they have been really helping me get through the books that I want to and need to read. I would definitely recommend this audiobook, and I recommend all narrators that were a part of this book. I don’t know if there would ever be a sequel to this with the way that the book ended, but boy oh boy would it be interesting to see how that would go.

I’ve already talked about this audiobook with multiple people recommending it so I’d definitely rate this one pretty high in my book.

Wow another winner from Alice Finley. I really loved this book. It was suspenseful and had me guessing who did did what until the very end. So many secrets.... Great character and story development. Both narrators did a fantastic job with their characters. I love how they had different narrators for each main character.
I highly recommend this audiobook to anyone who enjoys a good mystery/suspense novel.
A big thank you to MacMillian Audio via NetGalley for the advanced Audio book copy.

Gosh this book was strange. I am still over here shaking my head which I also found myself doing at the conclusion of Sometimes I Lie. Alice Feeney, you write some strange books and I love it! I found that the narrators were able to hold my attention all the way through which seldom happens with audio books. I do not want to say too much about the plot for fear of giving away any important detail. You guys just need to pick this book up and be as "head shaken" as I am on this one.

Big thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for allowing me to listen to a copy of Alice Feeney's latest work. I can't wait for my bookish friends to read this one so we can have many discussions surrounding this story.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

I was extremely surprised when I finished this book because I had thought it was going to fall into the category of "mediocre thrillers" I usually read. However, it turned out to be a pretty decent one.

This is one of those thrillers that the less you know about them before you start reading them, the better. so I won't go into much detail about the plot but I have to say that I did not see those plot twists coming. The book can be a little slow at parts but I liked that the author took time to dive into the characters' background stories and explain their behavior. I listened to the audiobook version and the two main narrators did a fantastic job, the third unknown narrator with the distorted voice was a clever idea.

I recommend this one a lot if you are looking for a nice and somehow light thriller to keep you distracted from your daily activities.

This was my first audiobook that I received through Netgalley’s shelf app. The audio version is very well done and the story flows well. I read a lot of crime and mystery, so I saw the twist coming, but it was still a quick, enjoyable novel.

I received this audiobook from Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion and review. I first would like to talk about the narrators. This book was narrated excellently. It was easy to stay engaged during the reading of this novel, and I'm really glad I was able to use the audiobook for this story. The story itself was also excellent. I never expected the ending, I guessed everyone but the person that actually was the killer. Definitely a surprise! I recommend this novel if you like thrillers and mysteries.

I'll start by saying that I typically only listen to audiobooks, as I don't have much downtime to sit and read a physical book. I listen to 3-5 books a week, so I have quite a few under my belt to compare this one to. The narration of this book is hands down the BEST I have ever listened to. The plot, multiple first-person character point of views, and the overall creepy vibe of this book had me hooked from the second I started it. I was so engrossed in this book that I slapped on my noise-cancelling headphones to mow the yard....because I COULD NOT STOP LISTENING!! I've listened to a couple others by Alice Feeney and I just love her twisted mind. She hit it out of the park with His & Hers and I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next! Thank you so much to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I read a lot of thrillers so I am always on the chase for one where the ending surprises me. They are hard to come by because the endings end up being predictable or similar to other books I’ve read. I went into this one with high expectations based on other reviews I had seen and it did not disappoint!

The book goes back and forth between two different point of views- Anna, a newscaster who has recently been demoted and her ex husband, Jack. He is a local detective in their small town where murders typically don’t happen. He reappears in her life when her former classmate is found murdered.

As more of Anna’s former friends end up dead, everyone starts to become a suspect. This book truly kept me guessing to the very end and never had a dull moment. I thoroughly enjoyed it and give it 5 💫‘s.

This was a great suspense read.
I will say I was given the audio version and I absolutely hated the killers voice. It was like nails on a chalkboard, and "his" voice recording seemed to have a far off sound. If it wasn't that it was a review I would have stopped listening and switched to a print copy.
Otherwise the story was very entertaining! I liked the gory details of the deaths-they seemed real and vengeful. I was totally not correct in my guess of the killer, but it made sense looking back.

First let me say that I absolutely loved listening to the audiobook while reading. The narrator had such a bone chilling effect that it really added to the suspense and kept me guessing.

I fully enjoyed His & Hers so much, and felt that the characters that author Alice Feeney created were perfectly flawed in their own way. The best part as a reader was being able to experience details of the story little by little, revealing just enough that made me question just who the killer could be.

*many thanks to Flatiron, Libro.fm and Netgalley for the gifted copies. All opinions are my own

Alice Feeney does it again! She is hands down my favourite author and this one did not disappoint!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This book has everything: unreliable narrators, messy characters with messier pasts and creepy woods. 🌲🍂
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I was second guessing everything the whole way through as the story unravelled. Just when I thought I had s everything figured out another twist would take me in a new direction.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As mentioned, the characters aren’t the most likeable and I know some won’t enjoy a book like that but if you do or if you’ve read and loved another of Alice Feeney’s books then you will love this one.

I could not stop listening to this audiobook. I was hooked right from the very beginning! I loved the narrators were used for this book, that always adds so much depth to an audiobook. The ending of this book had me thrown in the best kind of way. This was so twisted and suspenseful I couldn't stop until I had answers.

Really enjoyed the narrators for this audio book! I liked how they switched. This book had a fun plot and it kept me engaged the entire time. I look forward to reading another book by this author.

I honestly could not get past the narrator in this book. I am going to be reading a physical copy because I am so excited about this book. The one thing that is always hard about audiobooks is the narrator really make or break a story. I love the premise of this story, and how there is multiple view points. I can’t wait to pick up the physical book and become lost in this gripping storyline. My star rating right now is a 2 star but I am sure once I read the book and do not have the unfortunate narrator making it impossible to listen and enjoy the story, my rating will increase.

such a shitty read, wouldn't recommend to anyone.
The premise failed to pull me in and I struggled to read the 20% that i did. after that it was a downhill trip because i just was not intrigued. definitely a pass for me!
