Snow Ghost is searching for a home. She flies through snowy skies hoping to find a place where she can belong. Past the town traffic, the tangled wood, and the blustery hill until she reaches the calm moors. When she spots a girl and a boy playing, she joins them and breathes sparkling magic into their game. When it is time for the children to go home, the Snow Ghost follows them to make her home on the farmhouse roof in the glistening moonlight.

This is a lovely picture book that you can share with your family at Winter time. The rhyming text is great to read aloud and the illustrations are really beautiful.

Snow Ghost from Tony Mitton and Diana Mayo is an utterly charming picture book, exquisitely told with the most sumptuous palette.

The gentle rhyming of Mitton's narrative has a lovely lullaby feel, making it perfect bedtime material. Mayo's illustrations capture that wintery vibe... don't skip past those endpapers either!

With enchanting swirls and droplets of snow, and a colour palette of icy blues and greens, Snow Ghost is winter in picture book format. Diana Mayo has created a mystical, magical winter world, which the Snow Ghost dances through as she searches for the place she belongs. Eventually, she comes across a farm house where a boy and girl play outside. As they make snow angels in the soft, white carpet beneath them, the Snow Ghost swoops down to breath extra magic and fun into their play. Has she found her home at last? Tony Mitton has created a gentle and moving tale, turning everything we think we know about ghosts on its head and showing us a shimmering, gentle being, who is just looking for home. A reminder to us all of what home means, and the perfect book to snuggle up under a blanket with and read together.

The story of a 'snow ghost' looking for a place to rest. The snow ghost sees a girl and boy playing and finds 'home'.
This is a beautifully illustrated story. I must admit I wasn't that taken by the story itself.

'Snow Ghost is an enchanting book full of wintery magic that warms your heart and fills your soul with the joy of play.'

There's a certain magic that you instantly feel when you first see some books. It's the enchantment that the illustrator conjures with their exceptional imagination. You only have to take one look at the end papers to fall spellbindingly in love with this book. It's like falling into a snow filled dream. Diana Mayo playfully, delicately and gently wraps this this book in her warm welcoming imagery that makes even the cool snow feel like a cosy blanket.

This would be the perfect enchanting tale for a wintery, bedtime read and would make an ideal Christmas gift.

A wintery picture book. Snow Ghost is looking for somewhere to call home but she knows that most people will reject her. She eventually finds two children playing out in the snow and decides that is where she will stay.

I’m not really sure who or what Snow Ghost is. Is she a spirit or is she just the snowstorm? What do the children see or experience when they ‘play’ with her? I felt this was trying to replicate the scene in the Snowman when he dances with the other snowmen and the boy, but this doesn’t come anywhere close.

"Snow Ghost came shimmering out of the air, searching for somewhere to settle but where?"

Beautifully wintery rhyming couplets flow so smoothly, that words seem to float, drift and glide like gentle snowfall.

Snow Ghost is a wonderful concept for young children. The idea that the snow is a figure of a woman, almost like an angel who roams the wintery landscape and chooses to settle where there is safety, calm, laughter and joy is so enchanting. Snow is like a magical friend for children to play with and this is personified perfectly in the story.

Flying through the wintery skies, Snow Ghost roams, searching for a place to settle. She swoops gracefully over the twinkling lights of town and winds her way through a dense, tangled wood and to the top of the blustery hill. Then high up on the moors, she sees a small farm house and a little boy and girl playing. The winter air rings with their excited whoops and shouts and on hearing the children's laughter, Snow Ghost knows she has found a place to call home. She breathes magic and sparkle into their play, swishing and swirling around them as they make snow angels .

The light begins to fade and it's time for the weary children to stumble inside and fall into their beds, happily exhausted. While the children dream and shimmers of moonlight cast their glittering light, Snow Ghost lays down on the roof of the farmhouse to rest and the snowy landscape sleeps in contentment.

I am really eager to see a physical copy of the book to see the illustrations really shimmer and shine. I am sure there are going to be a few foil touches on the hardcover version that will make this book glisten like freshly fallen snow. I could see myself using the illustrations as a stimulus for some wonderful wintery artwork with my Year 1 class - I'm thinking watercolour washes, chalk pastels and a few carefully chosen sequin embellishments for added sparkle.

Even the end pages are exquisite! Delicately detailed leaves appear throughout the book and they brought back lovely memories of the dried Lunaria or 'Honesty' leaves that used to be used on Winter displays when I was at primary school. It's prompted me to look for some for my own classroom for the winter season and this book would be great beside them. I'm already getting excited about a small world set up to go with it - carefully chosen woodland animals, trees, a tiny farmhouse and miniature children.

With only 13 weeks to Christmas, this book would be a great addition to a seasonal collection, yet versatile enough to be used throughout winter as there are no references to Christmas in either the narrative or illustrations.

With thanks to NetGalley and Bloomsbury Children's Books for allowing me to review a digital copy of the book in advance of publication.

This is a beautiful story about a snow ghost looking for somewhere to rest. The illustrations are stunning and the rhyming text is lovely. I think the physical copy will be even more lovely as the illustrations are simply beautiful. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this beautiful book.

Firts of all I would like to point out how amazingly beautiful all of the illustration where throughout this book. I can imagine this being read as a bedtime story during the winter nights and making a lot of joy for children. This being said, there were a couple of factors that brought down the reading experience for me. First off, the font chosen to write the story in made it very difficult to read, and even though this was emphasised in reading a digital copy of the book, i still feel like for younger eyes, that may be trying to follow along with the story, this may still be an issue in the physical form of the book. My only other criticism of this book is that the ending to me didn't really make sense, do the children now live with snow all year round? This being said this is a minor point and it is still a solid read for young children.

This lovely story is about a snow ghost who is looking for a place to rest where she would be welcomed.
She came across 2 children who befriended her and they played and had fun.
The story rhymed, and was very easy to read, and the illustrations were quite simple but very effective.
I can't wait to read this to my kids again nearer to christmas as I think the magic of this story will get them so excited.
Lovely book.

Gloriously illustrated, this is a story with a hint of winter magic.

Snow Ghost is roaming, searching for a home, somewhere to rest. As she passes over a town, drawn by its twinkling lights, she knows she wouldn’t be welcome there so she moves on. She explores a forest but knows it’s not the right place to settle and the high winds on the high hill tell her to go. She finally finds her perfect home at a farm with a small girl and boy who play with her and make her feel welcome.

The story is calming with beautiful pictures and is presented in rhyming couplets which makes reading easy. This sort of rhyming text really appeals to younger children due to the rhythm of the words. I can see this becoming a Christmas favourite in our house. I really love the idea that there is always somewhere where we will find that we belong – just like Snow Ghost in this tale!

I received an eARC from NetGalley and Bloomsbury in return for an honest review.

Snow Ghost is a beautiful story, written in rhyming couplets, which is perfect for reading aloud, and will be a treasured read to cosy up with on cold, wintry nights.

Snow Ghost is looking for the perfect home, a place to belong and, as she searches, she looks upon a range of landscapes including town, forest and hill, but she doesn’t feel that she will belong in any of these. Then, she sees a girl and boy playing joyfully on a small farm. Could this be the place where she will find a home?

This is a truly gorgeous story about finding your place, and having your hopes fulfilled. The language is stunning and perfectly depicts Snow Ghost’s feelings and journey, and the rhymes make it perfect for shared reading.

The illustrations are breath-taking with a real magical quality that will entrance any reader. They encapsulate the ethereal nature of Snow Ghost whilst giving her personality and fluidity. The joy on the children’s faces as they play in the snow, and with the snow ghost, is wonderful. The changes in landscape from the green of the countryside to the moors blanketed by snow is stunning as is the use of bright and muted colours throughout.

I have no doubt that this will be a favourite story to be read over and over again, the beauty of the words and illustrations capturing the hearts and imaginations of young children.

Snow Ghost will make winter nights a delight for both children and the adults! I enjoyed reading this excellently illustrated children's book, and I immediately reread it.

Diana Mayo's illustrations are truly magical, and I especially liked her colour scheme. I love all these subdued hues and gentle strokes. Oh, and how melodious the words are with the illustrations. Tony Mitton's soft sentences beautifully rhyme, and it makes you want to read more. If you are looking for an adorable children's book, look no further.

A beautiful festive picture book, perfect for enjoying snuggled under a blanket on a cold day.

Snow ghost is looking for a home. The dark sky and tangled woods are too isolated and eerie, but a cosy, family farm might be the perfect place for her to settle.

Snow Ghost is full of beautiful illustrations, with muted colours and a soft, wintery feel. It would make a special addition to any bookcase and will be a book you'll want to pick up again and again.

The words are calm and soothing, making it a perfect bedtime story, and the overall message, about finding a place where you belong, is very sweet and comforting.

It reminded me of the illustrated version of Snow, by Walter de la Mare, but the really great thing about Snow Ghost is that, because it doesn't mention Christmas at any point, you can enjoy it in January and February, as well as December.

Thank you Bloomsbury for sending me an advanced digital copy to review.
