I love being given the opportunity to update our school library which is a unique space for both senior students and staff to access high quality literature. This is definitely a must-buy. It kept me absolutely gripped from cover to cover and is exactly the kind of read that just flies off the shelves. It has exactly the right combination of credible characters and a compelling plot thatI just could not put down. This is a great read that I couldn't stop thinking about and it made for a hugely satisfying read. I'm definitely going to order a copy and think it will immediately become a popular addition to our fiction shelves. 10/10 would absolutely recommend.

Amazing writing, gets you hooked from the start. It’s both fascinating and frightening in equal measure. I really enjoyed reading this book.
Thank you both NetGalley and the publisher for gifting me the book

This was just a sampler, the first 2 chapters. I liked the way it flicked between past and present as little snippets of their childhood were provided. It definitely kept me interested and I want to find out what happens next.

Girl A by Abigail Dean was a great sampler and I really enjoyed this book. It may of been a few chapters but a good insight of what this book was about.

This book is a difficult read, in terms of subject. The storyline revolves around child abuses that happens in the house of horrors. There are 7 siblings in the story named after alphabets, with 7 chapters and everyone talks about being a victim of being treated worse by their parents. The book itself is very well written.

Loved the sampler and looking forward to reading the full book. This hooked me in and I was disappointed to get to the end.

I hadn't realised this was just an extract when I requested it so was a little disappointed when I started reading, however it has successfully hooked me in those few pages and I'd love to see how the story goes from there. It's hard to say much more when I don't know how the story is going to continue and if it will be exciting and satisfying, but from these pages at least it seems to be a thrilling psychological read with a lot of depth.

I was gifted a sample of this book, which confused me at first because I didnt understand the context and how the story fit together.

I would describe this as a dark book, not perhaps a thriller, but well written nonetheless.

it was difficult to feel some kind of bond with the characters because I didnt know the whole story, however I reckon by reading the whole book this would change.

The book has recieved rave reviews from people and it is well written, worth a read!

Girl A by Abigail Dean

I didn’t realise this was just a sample until I started. Difficult to review without having the whole book but I liked what I read and will probably try to get my hands on a copy at some share, or I might even get the audio version as I feel this story would be a good one to listen to. Some very good writing and a great premise.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy.

I only received an extract of this from netgalley but that was enough to encourage me to buy the full version; as good as all of the reviews! If you haven't already, read it!

I began reading this debut novel forgetting it was received as a free "sampler" and therefore I am unable give a full review. However, the excerpt that I did read was enough to draw me in and I was rather disappointed when it came to an abrupt end. It's a story of grown-up siblings who suffered neglect, abuse and cruelty at the hands of their parents when children and how they have learned (or not) to live and cope with their terrible memories. It has the makings of a great thriller and I will definitely purchase this novel to finish it.

A compelling, dark thriller with great character development. The haunting narrative kept me turning the pages. Recommended! Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this ARC

Exceptionally written! Dark and disturbing, Girl A is not a gripping psychological thriller, but instead a gut-wrenching story of survival from the worst types of abuse one can fathom. Lex Grace, or Girl A as referred to in the newspapers, was the girl who finally escaped after being abused, neglected, and held captive by her parents alongside her siblings for years. Almost two decades later, with both parents dead, the former House of Horrors has been left to Lex. As she visits with each of her siblings to decide on the future of the estate, the story of their abuse, how it came to be, and the aftermath is slowly revealed through flashbacks. Loosely inspired by the true story of the Turpin family, there is a true crime vibe to the book but delves deeper into the emotional and psychological impact and lasting effect of abuse. As heartbreaking as it is to read, you’ll find yourself flipping through to discover the full story all while rooting for Lex to find the peace and happiness that she deserves.

Feedback given for this unusual and disturbing book. Not for the fainthearted or those who enjoy a happy ending.

I was only offered the sampler for this book. I am definitely hooked and now can't wait to read the rest.

Abigail shows us snippets of Alexander Gracie life. She is now the executer for her mothers will, a mother from the house of horrors, a mother she no longer wants to have anything to do with.
5 stars so far.

Superb and chilling book. Disturbing in its accuracy about the way we are treated. As if invida KR and not seen heard or believed, time for change, time to get lost in this great book

Girl A is a dark psychological thriller which starts as a gripping page Turner , so compelling that your reading and thinking I am gonna have to stay up all night to finish this one. The writing at the beginning is superb & then something happens the narrative becomes alittle lost and switching from past to present so quickly with no warning for example in present tense if it said “now “and then jumping back in time it stated “Then” you’d find it easier to follow , so this does affect the flow of the story in your mind. And also the sudden introduction of Devlin threw me without an explanation who this person is & then it dawns on you “oh that’s who they are “ but why ?? Anyway ,Saying that I’m pretty sure this book will be a huge hit this summer (when we can finally go on holiday again !) everyone will be reading this on the plane and on The beach. Gone girl it isn’t but it’s still a good read dipping in parts and the premise the basis for the story is excellent . I can see this being snapped up by Netflix and turned into a film for sure. If you like your books dark and gritty without asking to many questions this is definitely one for you. Thank you to NetGalley
and Viking for advanced copy in exchange for an honest review .

Loved reading this sample so much, I can't wait to read the rest of the book! This is the story of Lexi and the abuse she suffered at the hands of her religious parents, partly based on a true story. After her mother dies in prison Lexi and her siblings must decide what to do with the house of horrors they grew up in.

The writing is gripping and the story is just mysterious enough to hook you and leave you wanting more.
