I was so excited to see there was a sequel to The Ice Cream Girls that I went back and read it again before listening to this to refresh my memory and was just as horrified as when I first read it, the subject matter was so dark. However, it was so well written that I just had a visceral hatred for Marcus and felt so devastated for the girls and it did seem so unfair that things went one way for Poppy and completely opposite for Serena but I loved the Poppy and Alain storyline.
So I was delighted when Netgalley introduced audiobooks, I love reading, but often end up busy with other things to do and I find that narrators can add so much to the story.
I initially found this sequel a bit slow to get into and I was disappointed to see how things were going for Poppy in the beginning, but when it picked up the pace, I couldn't put it down and listened to 40% this afternoon!
Once again found myself to be utterly gripped, I had no idea who to believe, both versions seemed equally plausible and I again found myself utterly horrified by how Logan and Verity's relationship actually was given how it had appeared.
The story had so many twists and turns and even at the end I was surprised, I hope there will be another follow up to see what happens next.
My thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for my Audio copy in return for my honest review.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Adjoa Andoh as Serena, Maria Gbeley as Verity, Julie Maisey as Poppy, Nicky Diss and Luke Thompson. I thought that the women in particular were excellent, bringing a depth of emotion to the narration that made the book so powerful. It was also wonderful to revisit the characters from the first book 'The Icecream Girls' narrated in the same voices.

It's a tightly woven plot that revisits events from the past that still reverberate in the present. At the end of the first book Poppy and Serena had come to a kind of understanding, but the fact that the truth about Marcus's murder still hadn't come to light meant that a resolution wasn't reached. This book looks at the wider impact that the murder and subsequent events have had on their family members and indeed, themselves in the present day. As well as the tense and gripping element of the plot concerning Verity being accused of attempted murder, the book doesn't fail to really get under the skin of how abuse damages and affects so many people on the periphery as well as those at the centre, and how insidious it is, continuing to cause hurt and pain many years later. Moments that really stood out for me were Verity's reaction to finding out about her mother is heartbreaking and painfully honest. Poppy's need to constantly regulate her behaviour for fear of being incarcerated again is frightening and uncomfortable to read.

The book is one that made me smile, made me sad, made me angry and really challenged my assumptions about our justice system, victims of abuse and the rehabilitation of prisoners. I would like to thank NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to listen to the audiobook in return for an honest review.

Audiobooks either work or they don't because it does not matter how good the novel is, if the narration is wrong it is destroyed and I switch it off, the narrators here nailed it. The actor for Serena made her more abrupt and pusher than I imagined but it worked. Listening to the story develop was addictive, sleep was put on hold and chores were actively sort if I could do them while listening.
Ice Cream girls is one of my favourite books by Dorothy Koomson and I wasn't sure where a sequel would go or whether it was needed but it worked and was a cracking, twist turning read with this study of abuse in all guises and its effects after the event. I fell in love with Poppy and her attitude which differed from my reading of The Ice Cream Girls where my sympathies lay with Serena. This book is clever and definitely one for my forever shelf along side the original.

This is my first review on NetGalley and also first time listening to a an audiobook. I was delighted to be given the chance by one of my favourite authors so review one of her books.
Having read the Ice-cream girls, I was excited to read this follow up book. At first I admit It took me a while to be familiar with the characters, but I think this was more to do with it being my first audio book! Once I got into it i really enjoyed this book. Just as good as the previous one. Showed us that the decisions we make, can effect not only ourselves but the next generation!
Dorothy Koomson remains one of my favourite authors who never fails to put in twists and turns in her books and keeping us engaged in her stories.

Thank you

This was to be my first Dorothy Koomson book, having seen so many recommendations of this author. Realising it was a sequel, I asked my trusted book friends if it was a stand alone – so glad they told me to read The Ice Cream Girls – which I devoured in one day – almost one sitting and was definitely left wanting more. So, the scene was set and expectations were high for the sequel. I listened to the audiobook. Iniitally I found it tricky to engage with. I was wanting more of Poppy and Serena, but was delivered Verity. The author asks us to really question the behaviours and intentions of others and explores how we all hide aspects of our lived from those closest to us. This story builds beautifully and you have a sense of things to come but the twists and turns and possibilities are not predictable. This was a finely crafted sequel which again left the reader without the ends tied up neatly. So many lies, so many reasons, who was actually telling the truth?

Many thanks to #netgalley for gifting the audiobook version of #allmyliesaretrue in sxchange for an honest review.

Dorothy Koomson certainly knows how to write a hard hitting book. It touched on many aspects of abuse. But done in a way that tells a very good story. Although this was obviously a carry on book from an earlier novel that I have not read it certainly did not spoil this book. The author gave enough detail for you to understand the storyline.
I accessed this book with the audio version. The narrators certainly brought their characters to life and you fully understood which woman was talking. Think I enjoyed more as the audio.
I would certainly recommend this book. Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the arc in return for an honest review

The absolute perfect sequel to The Ice Cream Girls. This book is utterly stunning, so well written and captivating. I enjoyed it as an audiobook

I was truly engrossed in this book, the different narrator's did a great job and had me gripped from start to finish.
As I had already read The Ice Cream Girls I did know some of the characters already but anyone who hasn't read her previous book can easily read this as a stand alone book.
I have already mentioned to a friend about this book and shall most certainly recommend to many more

I’d like to thank Hachette Audio and Netgalley for providing this audiobook for review. I’ve enjoyed every Dorothy Koomson book that I’ve read and this one, although not a paper copy, was excellent too. It came alive with excellent narrators which meant following which character was speaking was not a problem. A gripping story that you could follow even if you had not read The Ice Cream Girls. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this audiobook, Hachette Audio and, of course the author. A solid 5 out of 5. Review left at Goodreads but not sure Netgalley has accepted it as a link as I added it after saving. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3525892517

Dorothy Koomson writes beautiful books. Hard hitting and just brilliant. I enjoyed the changes of an audio book and liked the narrator.

This is a sequel to Dorothy Koomson's bestselling novel The Ice Cream Girls which follows Serena and Poppy 10 years after the original novel.
This is the first time I have read or listened to a Dorothy Koomson novel and I was familiar with the plot of the original book only from the TV dramatisation, so this may have influenced my feelings about the book.
The audiobook is read brilliantly by multiple narrators who really bring the book to life and therefore there is a real differentiation between the characters which allows for an immersive listen. Sadly,I was not gripped by the plot or the characters and found it to be a slow listen. However, perhaps for those who have familiarity with the original novel this would be a welcome return to the characters and the story.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the digital audiobook.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Dorothy Koomson is an absolute queen. She is one of my favourite authors by far. Her books always deliver, with real, flawed characters and truly gripping storylines. This book could have gone one of two ways, and I was so glad it went the way it did. Thrilling, twisty, emotional and fierce.

This was my first Netgalley audiobook, and I can't say I'm impressed by the app, but the narration and sound quality were fantastic.

I love The IceCream Girls and for me this didn’t quite live up to the previous books. The audiobook was good, I enjoyed listening to the narration and the characters were great, but it wasn’t quite what I was hoping for.

I read and loved The Ice Cream Girls when it was first published so was excited to discover a sequel was coming out. I’m pleased to say that I really enjoyed All My Lies Are True and it lived up to my expectations.

Serena and Poppy are the Ice Cream Girls and All My Lies Are True follows Serena’s daughter Verity and Poppy’s younger brother Logan. They meet up and between them decide to try and find out the truth about what happened all those years ago. They become more than friends but decide to hide this relationship from their loved ones.

One night something terrible happens at Verity’s flat and the repurcussions of this night are potentially be far-reaching. Verity finds herself a suspect and the truth begins to come out about her relationship with Logan and what they have been up to.

The novel also follows Poppy and Serena and we get to find out how their lives are now, and the impact the murder from years earlier has had on their lives. I loved catching up with them again and seeing how they were.

There are twists and turns as this novel progresses and definitely things I didn’t see coming! I love the way the story builds and you can sense things brewing but you don’t see the full impact of what’s coming until it happens. So many people have reasons to lie so I was never sure of who I could trust to be telling the truth! The title of this novel is sheer perfection! I like a novel that keeps me on my toes and this definitely did that!

My only slight negative in this review is that, at times, I found this book a little hard to follow on audiobook. It jumps around from character to character but also goes back and forth in time and there were moments as I was listening to this that I wasn’t sure at which point in time I was. For this reason I recommend listening to this book in big chunks in order to better keep track of what’s happening. I did love the multiple narrators: Adjoa Andoh, Julie Maisey, Luke Thompson, Maria Gbeleyi and Nicky Diss and they all sound distinct from each other so I did always know which character I was with. I already knew I loved Adjoa Andoh’s narration but I will now definitely look for more books narrated by the others in the future.

I think this novel would work as a standalone but The Ice Cream Girls is so good that I absolutely recommend reading it first.

I really enjoyed All My Lies Are True and I highly recommend it.

I can see that I am in the minority by awarding this book 3 stars when the average rating is 4.67 stars.
However, I wasn't overly gripped by it. For me it was just ok. I listened to the book as an audiobook and the narration/character voices were good and appropriate. I just didnt feel that the book was anywhere near as good as its predecessor, The Ice Cream Girls which I thoroughly enjoyed.
It was great to find out about what happened to Poppy and Serena following that terrible time in the 80's and to meet their children and siblings.
And yes there was an element of suspense and, as a reader, I really didnt know who was telling the truth and who was telling lies, Serena or Logan? I did change my mind several times and that is thanks to the great writing of the author. However for me that was it. Once I knew the truth I struggled to read on. Like I said previously, I know I my opinion is in the minority so I'm sure that most people reading this review or book will beg to differ and that's fine. Thank you for enabling me to listen to this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

When Net Galley announced that they were introducing audio books I upgraded to a Kindle Fire and requested All My Lies Are True, the sequel to the wonderful Ice Cream Girls that I read and enjoyed many years ago. I admit that it took a bit of getting used to reading with this format as I had to concentrate a lot more than I expected. After a while I was able to speed up the narration and quickly became engrossed.
The Ice Cream Girls Poppy and Serena feature heavily in this book with reference to their story from 30 years ago and how their past events still impact on not only their lives but also of their families. This book is full of drama, secrets and lies and explores how obsession and controlling behaviour destroys live. The complex two families are forced to re live history with jaw dropping results. It was a pleasure to read this sequel and I can highly recommend it.
My thanks to Net Galley for the audio copy of this engrossing book.

I have loved Koomson's books for years but hadn't read 'the ice cream girls' before this one. I'm sure it would have helped my enjoyment as it took me a long time to understand all the characters and their relationships with each other, as well as the background plot to the first book.
The challenge for me was the different time frames and the narrators because I lost track several times through the book of what was happening. Reading the previous book would definitely have helped me, and perhaps also reading this in print form. I am becoming a huge fan of audiobooks after enjoying a few before this, but this was hard to follow.
Most of the plot was good and it had some good twists but I'm not sure I would remember this book in a few months, too many factors made it challenging for me, but I'm sure other listeners would love it.

I am beyond impressed by the audio version of ‘All My Lies are True’. Just WOW. This author really knows how to write an intelligent thought-provoking novel that REALLY entertains.

The story, a follow-up to ’The Ice-Cream Girls’ really works even as a stand alone.

The story starts with echoes of a modern day Romeo and Juliet. Logan, is the brother of Poppy, who sensationally spend a good 20 years of her life incarnated following the violent death of her schoolteacher / abusive lover. Logan believes that co-accused, Serena, (who was also in a relationship with said school teacher at the time of his death), needs to confess to her part in the historical untimely death. In his attempt to get Serena to confess, he meets, falls for, and starts an elicit relationship with Verity, Serenas' 24 year old daughter. Fast-forward a year, and Logan wants to go public with the relationship, Verity, fearful of the fallout, does not. What follows takes the reader on an utterly spectacular voyeristic rollercoaster of truths, skewed perspectives, harsh realities and twists galore!

I have no doubt this novel works well in its printed form, but what really elevated it to the gold standard of audiobooks for me, was the highly effective use of multiple narrators. All were extremely likeable and authentic (which makes the twists all that more gratifyingly shocking!) .

Though I have enjoyed the previously work of Dorothy Koomson, I hadn’t necessarily associated her with plot twists. Now, I stand corrected! Part 9 of this audiobook?! WOW! A very enjoyable book elevated to exceptional!

My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for every pleasurable minute of the advance copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest and timely review.

All My Lies Are True - Dorothy Koomson
Publisher: Hachette Audio UK
Headline Review
Published 9 July 2020

4.5 stars out of 5

NO SPOILERS

I have read most of Dorothy Koomsons previous work but this is my first audiobook experience. Beautifully narrated but I realise that I prefer to actually read a book mainly due to the length of time this took me to listen to (over 15 hours).

All My Lies Are True is a sequel to the Ice Cream Girls, though I felt that it wouldn’t particularly be necessary to have read the first book due to the detail on past events included in this.
The story relates to the aftermath of the crime for which Poppy spent time in prison and her subsequent release and attempts to rebuild her life. Serena, the other “Ice Cream Girl” was acquitted of the same charge and her life has obviously taken a different course. When their two worlds collide, this leads to a dramatic & satisfying conclusion.
The dark subject matter is sensitively handled. I have read some criticism that the way the original trial is conducted is not realistic but I tend to disagree. Attitudes to grooming and sexual abuse have changed since when the original trial was set many years ago and I felt this was reflected in the story.

Well written, strong characterisation and an interesting plot, I would highly recommend it.

I’d like to thank the author, publisher and netgalley for providing me with this audiobook in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Audio version of this book 📚 WOW WOW WOW 🤩 This is the sequel to The ‘Ice Cream Girls’ which was released back in 2010 and it was well worth the wait!! It’s so well written, full of emotion and you just get dragged along with the story. I listen to a lot of audiobooks and I’ve got to say this is one of the best regarding narration. The 3 main characters narrators are fantastic and really bring the characters to life just how I imagined the character to be. The twists and turns throughout and the different viewpoints of each character have you gripped from the word go. I highly recommend this book, whether it be a written copy or an audio version, both are of the highest quality

Thank you to NetGalley for this copy
