This novel follows forensic psychologist Cyrus Haven as he delves into the case of Evie Cormac, a troubled young woman with a dark past. Robotham masterfully weaves together suspense, complex characters, and unexpected twists, making it difficult to put the book down. The exploration of trauma, identity, and the nature of evil adds depth to the story, making it both thrilling and thought-provoking.

Thanks to Netgalley, Hachette Audio UK for the approved audio ARC in exchange for honest review.

Immersive Storytelling….
Top notch psychological suspense from an accomplished author and the second in the series to feature Cyrus Haven, the bright and gifted forensic psychologist. Some clever and immersive storytelling and characters that are brought to life in this audiobook with well paced and well placed, pitch perfect narration.

When She Was Good, narrated by Joe Jameson is the second in the Cyrus Haven series. I haven't read the first book in the series and I think I'd recommend reading it before this one. I found this to be a gripping thriller, Joe Jameson narrates well on the whole with a good differentiation of voices but his voice can be a little robotic at times. Robotham is a great writer, I love his characterisation and the plot moves along at a good pace. I'd recommend this and would also recommend Robotham's Joe O'Loughlin series which I definitely prefer.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital audiobook.

I hadn’t realised that this was a sequel to an earlier book , Good Girl, Bad Girl . I haven’t read the initial book which may have meant it was less enjoyable for me.
A well written thriller with complex characters the story line involves the untangling of a paedophile ring told from the viewpoint of a previous victim and her therapist.
I found it a little predictable as well as sad.
It took a little while to be comfortable with the male narrator but once I was accustomed I did enjoy this audio book.
I would certainly look for other books by the same author.

I had previously read and enjoyed the first Cyrus Haven thriller Good Girl, Bad Girl, so I was thrilled to be able to carry on with the series. I have to be honest, I really enjoyed the story of When She Was Good, but I haven't listened to many audiobooks before and did find it much harder to follow. This is no reflection of the story at all, just that I found it harder to keep my attention listening to the audiobook version.

The story carries on from the first book so I would definitely recommend reading Good Girl, Bad Girl first to get a better understanding of the background. Evie and Cyrus are both really interesting characters and even though the storyline was very dark and intense, it was still very gripping.

With this kind of story, it is really important to get all the details and with an audiobook I just wasn't able to focus enough and make sure I kept track of everything. Having said that I will definitely be picking up a copy of the book and hopefully Book 3 to read soon.

What a fantastic narration by Joe Jameson, he made so many characters come to life effortlessly. He really managed to draw out colour and individual personalities to every one – from the loveable to the despicable – bringing each chapter alive with subtle nuances and emotion. The delivery was exceptional.

I really enjoyed the story and have to admit I wasn’t quite sure what was happening with Evie and her background but it soon became clear that she had been abused and that was at the centre of the story.

When She Was Good is only the second audio book I’ve listened to and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It does take some getting used to, after years of reading you’d think it would be easier but I have to concentrate a lot more when listening! Robotham really increases the tension as the book develops and Joe’s narration moves along at a stunning pace. You really could feel the difference towards the end of the book.

An intriguing storyline, great narration and a book full of entertaining and interesting characters. Bravo.

Amazeballs!! I absolutely LOVED this book! I'm also hanging my head in shame because this is the 1st book from Michael Robotham that I've read. What was wrong with me?! I'm definitely now a fan and will stockpile his other books!

First of all, I think the narrator did a stellar job of telling the story. I normally prefer female narrators but I will definitely look out for more books narrated by Joe Jameson. His characterisations were very good and he kept me engaged.

The story engages you from the 1st page and I found myself rushing through the pages to see how it will unfold.

"Nobody values the truth more highly than a liar" - Albanian proverb

Such true words and we all know people like this. But what if this truth is dangerous. Not only for you but also for the people around you? This is the dilemma that Evie is sitting with and people will kill for this truth to never come out. Will Cyrus be able to help her and at what cost?

"I am supposed to separate the person from the act, to hate the sin but forgive the sinner."

I absolutely loved Evie's character. She is a brave and strong young girl with a wicked sense of humour.

Thank you to NetGalley and Hachette Audio UK for the opportunity to listen to the audiobook in exchange for my honest opinion.

WOW WOW WOW 😮 A brilliant sequel to’Good Girl , Bad Girl’ Audio version of this book with narration by Joe Jamieson. The narrator brings all the characters to life especially Evie Who he captures her personality spot on !! The story has you gripped from start to finish and answers all the questions from the first book. Sirus, the other main character has a brilliant relationship with Evie and in a way, I would’ve loved to see how their relationship develops! Can not recommend this series enough , highly recommend both the written version or the audio version Fantastic!

Thank you NetGalley and Hatchette audio for the audio version of this book in return for an honest review

A great narrator, Joe Jameson, adds to the enjoyment of this audio book. I didn’t realise it was the second book in a series, but it was still a great read as a stand alone. Criminal psychologist Cyrus Haven wants to find justice for Evie Cormac who has a rather mysterious background. She has clearly suffered many abuses at the hands of some vile people but she keeps much of this ‘locked’ away. Evie trusts no one, and so trying to find her perpetrator is a complicated task. Cyrus manages to prise open this ‘Pandora’s box’ and then has to deal with the fallout. Whilst some of the events seem unlikely, excellent characterisation and constant tension makes this an exciting story.
Thank you to Michael Robotham, Net Galley and Hachette Audio for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Having just finished ‘Good Girl Bad Girl’ I was keen to listen to ‘When she was good’ as I found the stories of both Cyrus and Evie very engaging. The narrator Joe Jameson’s seamless transition between characters ensured that the story fame to life. As in the first book, the plot was fast paced, Cyrus continues his investigation into the childhood abuse of Evie, whilst trying to break through the protective wall that she has put up in an attempt to forget the trauma she has suffered. Flashbacks from Evie add detail to her early life, those who tried to protect her and those who took, advantageous her. Cyrus too has his demons from his past that torment him, and we are introduced to his brother who is being held in a psychiatric ward after killing the rest of the family many years before. Suffice to say I could not tear myself away from this book, if you like a fast paced thriller with characters you feel invested in and still have jaw dropping twists I would highly recommend this audible book.

I enjoyed this book however did not realise it was the 2nd book in a series. Now that I know that I definitely think it would be best to read the first book prior to this one to find out more about the background of the main characters and their stories. It did seems as some points that so much had happened to them prior to the book, it makes reference to many previous events and now it make sense knowing that it is book number 2.however it did not spoil my enjoyment of the story line and I became immersed in it.

It is a thriller based around 2 main characters Cyrus a forensic psychologist and Evie a disturbed teenager who has been subjected to horrific circumstances. The book reveals the events in Evies life that have resulted in her ending up in a secure children home where she refuses to discuss any of the incidents with anyone, even Cyrus with home she has an unbreakable bond. The story was enthralling and it is easy to become immersed in it.

With regard to the audio I liked the fact the story is told from 2 different view points using 2 narrators both were very good, that of Cyrus and Evie. It is so interesting to listen to how the same situation is viewed so differently.

In summary, it is possible to listen and enjoy the story without having listened to #1 Good Girl, Bad Girl however I would recommend that you read it first and this will increase the experience

"When She Was Good" by Michael Robotham is a brilliant and absorbing thriller. The key characters Cyrus Haven, the forensic psychologist who works for the police and Evie Cormac the tortured victim of paedophile abuse have such a strong bond to the extent that Cyrus is the only person who can see any truth in what Evie says whilst everyone else sees insolence and petulance. The action unravels in two timelines as more is revealed about the past experiences of Evie and Terry Boland the driver who managed to extract her from her abusers but in the end paid a heavy price.

Cyrus also enlists the help of Sacha who was the special constable instrumental in discovering Evie’s hiding place so many years ago.

I listened to the audiobook version which was very well narrated.

I really enjoyed this audiobook, it had a great narrator who kept up the pace and the suspense that the novel required, the story is told between two characters Cyrus a Forensic psychologist and Evie, a damaged young girl who has a temper and a knack for knowing when people are lying, she lives in a secure unit after being found when she was a young girl was hiding in a cupboard In a house where a man was found dead., believed to be her abductor and abuser, This is actually book two from Michael Robotham but I’ve listened to this without reading the first novel and I think it works as a stand-alone novel, but I’ve enjoyed it so much I might go back and get the first book to get the back story of Cyrus & Evie.

A deeply dark and disturbing story that is packed full of action. This is my first listen to Cyrus Haven, although I understand this is, in fact, book 2, (I do wish publishers would make the series more obvious). I thought Cyrus was a fascinating character and was fully captivated by his motivation in 'saving' Evie. The sad truth is that this is a story that is all too believable in this day and age. Mr Robotham captured the air of menace totally and I felt the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end more than once. I even let out a couple of gasps and "Oh no's". My only gripe was that the narrator, Joe Jameson, has a slight speech impediment and often used "v" in place of "th", so we got "ve victim" instead of "the victim", which I found uncomfortable to listen to. Other than that, this is a 5 star, top of the range, listen that I highly recommend

Wow wow wow wow. Absolutely loved this audiobook. Started slowly and built to an amazing crescendo. The author has written a brilliant story. However the narrator just brought the story off the pages. He was able to adapt his voice to all of the characters bringing a depth to the story. Yet despite the different voices it didn’t sound comical. I would highly rate this narrator.
This is a story of the seedy underworld of underage prostitution. Sex gangs and corruption. How I want this to be made into a film or tv series.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the arc in return for an honest review.

When She Was Good by Michael Robotham is book 2 in a series. I did not read the first one. I absolutely loved this book. Although it contains very disturbing subject matter, it's a great book. I listened to the audio version. Joe Jameson did a fantastic job narrating. I want to read the 1st book now and will look for other books by this author.

Many thanks to netgalley and Hachette audio for the opportunity to listen to this book.

I loved this book. Everything about it. It was heartbreaking, as is any book dealing with child abuse. The character of Evie is amazing, broken yet so powerful. Cyrus is a warm character and wholly likeable. I will be looking for more books by Michael Robotham. Don’t you just love it when you find your new favourite author?!

Having already read this novel by Michael Robotham, I jumped at the chance to listen to the audiobook version. I often like to listen to a thriller I've already read as It means I can simply enjoy the story and performance without losing track of the plot. This is the second book featuring protagonist Cyrus Haven and I do think reading the first novel is important in this instance. We meet up with Cyrus and Evie some months after the events of the first book. Evie's past is as mysterious as ever but we do get answers in this book - most satisfying. I enjoyed the narration once the book got going - oftentimes we have a specific voice in mind for a character and it's no reflection on the narrator if it takes a bit of time to come to terms with the reality. I'm not sure if this is the end of Cyrus and Evie's story - if it isn't, I'll look forward to meeting them again.
