While I didn't fall in love with the first book in this series, I certainly have with this one. Classic example of how sequel can be way better!

"The Peculiar Fate of Holy Banks" is a really fun comedy dealing with the issues of motherhood and people-pleasing in a small town setting. We follow our familiar Holly Banks as she tries her best to be a good mother, wife, friend and neighbor while looking over her own needs in the picture-perfect Village of Primm. She is a super relatable character, especially with her insane quirkiness and flaws, which is something we simply need to read about in the era of instagram 'perfection.'

This book is a perfect light, laugh-out-loud read for anyone craving to just relate to someone who "sucks" when everyone else seems to have a perfect life. Holly is just incredibly lovable, and I can't help but wish we could be friends in real life.

Loved it!! I really liked the first book and the second was just as good if not better. Definitely one to read for the summer.

The Peculiar Fate of Holy Banks is a must-read for lovers of She Sheds, small-town drama, and quirky characters.

Holly’s character is an anxious, self-doubting, crowd-pleasing, mother desperately trying to fit in. Don’t let that fool, you’ll quickly find yourself cheering her on as she slowly finds herself. One particular scene involving Holly and an ultralight aircraft left me cringing for our heroine but hopelessly giggling over her misadventure. I actually found a lot of similarities between my self and Holly that really appealed to me. Who hasn’t been swept up in the bullet journaling trend or created a mudroom in attempts to make your life look more organized? Please tell me that’s not just me! While I would categorize The Peculiar Fate of Holy Banks as a light read, it left room for introspective thoughts.

While I spent the majority of my time falling in love with Holly, I also fell for the other characters. I was invested in her husband’s desire to create the perfect coffee bean roast, her daughter’s letter Q and U marriage— this is apparently a real thing —, and her best friend’s love interest.

Another thing I really enjoyed about this book, is the plot lines. There are so many moving pieces that all tied together rather smoothly. While nothing in Holy’s life is going to plan, a lot of things aren’t going to plan in her small town. Eventually, everything falls into place and left me with content with how the story ended.

A fun read, this second book about Holly and the Village of Prim begins just where we left off. Though not 100% necessary, I would recommend reading the first installment first to get the most out of this story. Of the two, I preferred this story. Holly is settling in and we see her develop through her relationship with Jack, her mom and the other residents of Primm. A nice read.
