Lovely Amanda Locke, the daughter of a duke, has been out in London society for three years but has still not found a husband. When she sets her sights on a wealthy nobleman known to be passionate about horses, she enlists Devin Baldwin, a darkly handsome breeder of horses, to be her riding instructor. Devin is well known for using his expertise to bring about the matching of eligible young ladies to suitable gentlemen. But Amanda finds herself falling for the matchmaker instead, and her desire for a husband takes her in a wholly unexpected direction
I love the author’s books & usually read them straight through but I struggled a little with this one it just didn’t have the strength of characters I associate with the author. Yes I liked Devin & Amanda but didn't love them & I wasn't engrossed in their story. It was well written but not the compulsive read
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

A beautifully written book full of characters that truly pull you in and make you feel fully immersed in the story.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would certainly recommend this to others.

I read this book many years ago, but in my maternal language and it was great to be able to read it in English as we all know that many times translated books don't make as much sense.
The author is by far one of my favourite of historical romance books and this story delivered exactly what i was craving, a great cast of characters, genuine banter and a romance story with suspenseful moments and that well deserved happily ever after.
A must read for sure

The second romance I've recently read by this author, and it is an enjoyable read. It is character-driven, and the main protagonists are full of passion and secrets. Devin is Regency society's latest source of gossip, known as Cupid he is an unlikely, but successful matchmaker and therefore, he is welcome everywhere. Lady Amanda is a Duke's daughter in her third season and desperate to marry for love.

After a few fiery encounters, the couple thrown together by circumstance find they fulfil Devin's first rule of matchmaking physical attraction. Devin is on a mission, and that doesn't include falling for Amanda.

Some of the language used in this grates a little, as it isn't authentic for the period, but the heart of the story overcomes this.

The prologue hints of a poignant mystery which is gradually revealed and gives the story added conflict and depth. The chemistry between Devin and Amanda is steamy, and the ending positively dreamy.

I received a copy of this book from Random House UK -Transworld Publishing via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Tolerable, and certainly better than "That Perfect Someone" by the same author, but generally pretty lacklustre Regency romance. The writing is poor and peppered with Americanisms and anachronisms; I struggled on because the hero and heroine were at least slightly entertaining, and I generally like the concept of romances where the hero has to teach the heroine to do something so she can win the affection of another, only for her to realise she is no longer interested in anyone but him. That trope played out well, but had no real spark. I think this is ultimately a pretty forgettable read for me. Two and a half stars.

Another great addition to historical romance by one the best authors in the genre, Johanna knows her field, fabulous romance, great characters and an addictive story, there is always drama, emotion and love. There isn’t much not to love here, want a great romance, then pick these up.

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion

I struggled a bit with this book for the first third or so but then I got into the story and both leads really grew on me. I don’t know if it is because it is written by an American but some of the phrases jarred with me (eg blocks instead of streets) and some of the statements made did not seem true to the era whilst others (eg a’tall) just seemed a bit clunky. The storyline had enough elements of mystery to make it a joy to read.
I sound like I didn’t enjoy the novel but I did after my initial struggles and will definitely look for more to read by this author in the future.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read a review copy of this book.

Very disappointed with this .. I struggled through it because I wanted to review but the plot was never fully developed. Not the best by this author.

A pleasant enough book. It’s ideal for those people who enjoy a gentle read in the form of a costume drama. This author knows her stuff.

What’s not to love in the strong, handsome and intelligent riding instructor? Certainly, he’s the perfect man for our heroine and a delightful read as the story of their romance develops.

Not a bad story. I haven't read this author before. The premise is that the hero, Devin, has been successful in matching people. He is a horse breeder, whose mother was a mistress. He is looking to punish his father for the way his mother was treated. The heroine, Amanda, is starting her third season and realises that to attract one of the men from the ton she needs to get over her fear of riding. I liked the character of her father, though most of the people in the story were not finely drawn. I think the narration sounds a bit modern as well, It seems to be the last of a series so it would have be worth reading those books as the characters from them turn up in this story. It was a clean story till near the end when they jumped into bed together. I thought this seemed a bit rushed.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I loved this book. Oh so romantic and did keep you guessing until the latter chapters. The characters were all so likeable, and though it did feel as though they'd each already had a book written about them and you were being told something you should already know about their backstory, it didn't prevent this story coming across well. I'd recommend to others and will be looking out for other stories from this author
