Very dark and twisted, I loved this one.
The plot was extremely cleverly crafted. It was well thought out, imaginative and beautifully written.
The characters were an odd and quirky selection, but fit perfectly into the plot, adding an extra depth to the storyline.
I would definitely recommend this book.

A young woman has been discovered brutally murdered in her apartment. An intricate pattern of lines has been carved onto her face. Copenhagen police detectives Jeppe Korner and Anette Werner are assigned to the case. They find a link between the victim, Julie Stender and her landlady, Ester de Laurenti. Ester likes a drink and is the host of raucous parties with her artist friends. Ester us also a budding novelist and when Julie turns up as a murder victim in the unfinished mystery the long between fiction and real life gets more dangerous.

This is the first book in a promising new police procedural series. There's lots of drama and s brutal crime to solve. There's plenty of twists that will keep you guessing throughout. The book is descriptively written. The main characters are flawed but relatable. The pace is slow to begin with but it's not lo.g before it picks up. This is an enjoyable read.

what an interesting storyline that is very indepth and how the lives of a few are entwined forever....

brilliantly written and as the story progressed it got harder and harder to put the book down

I felt quite conflicted by The Tenant. The plotting was ingenious (if somewhat far-fetched) and I enjoyed the twists and turns, many of which I couldn't predict. However, I found the dialogue between the characters (and their internal dialogue, too) jarring at times. To English ears, the way Engberg's detectives talked to each other sounded incredibly brusque and often rude. I do often find this with translated fiction from Iceland, so was interested to see the same patterns replicated in translations from Danish.

This is the first book in the Kørner and Werner series set in Copenhagen and I loved it it was such a good read !
I love all Scandinavia noir/crime books and this was a new author for me and I was very impressed at the quality of the writing and am now eagerly awaiting the next in the series.
So we have a police procedural but one with a whole lot more going on, the back story of Jeppe Kørner who is struggling with the aftermath of a divorce which caused him to have a breakdown really gave an edge to the read and then we have the case of a young woman murdered in her apartment and with more murders to come this book goes at a fair old pace making for a complex and exciting story with plenty of twists.
I particularly liked the two main characters of Kørner and Werner especially the love hate rapport they had this added to the enjoyment of the story and the book was also very well translated. A well deserved 4 star read from Katrine Engberg and hope we don’t have to wait too long for the next instalment.

This is probably the best Scandinavian police/crime/murder book I have read. It moves along at a very good pace, characters are detailed at just the right depth and it even has the odd dash of humour!
Don't think it has any flashback chapters - moving along day by day.
The full explanation and revealing of culprit(s) is not completely done until the final pages.
Definitely a book not to be missed

I thought this was a quite a good read. It began with the murder of a young woman in her apartment and the police investigation into this. I liked the two main police characters and there were a few twists that I didn’t expect. At times I felt the book was a little too long and I found I skimmed over some of it where it lost my interest. I guessed who the murderer was and was correct. 3 stars

A young woman is murdered in her apartment in Copenhagen. Esther, who owns the building, has started writing a novel and the killer has copied the method of killing from her book. Only two other people had access to Esther’s manuscript and they both have alibis. Jeppe Korner and Annette Werner, the investigating officers, are flummoxed.

A good story but I found it quite slow and hard going to be honest but this shouldn’t put anyone else off reading it.

This year there seems to have been a real dearth of new Scandinavian noir. Perhaps yet another victim of the Coronavirus? It was a real joy to discover, The Tenant, a new Danish novel.
Katrine Enberg has a real talent for looking at the dark side of intimate relationships. This is as tense and gripping as anything I've read this year. The ending is a surprise, both utterly shocking and plausibly inevitable, and yet still leaving space for some uplifting moments that threaten to bring a year to the eye.
Perfect in so many ways.

A young woman is found, murdered in her own apartment and two Copenhagen police detectives Jeppe Korner and Anette Werner are assigned to the case. The murdered woman is well-known to her landlady (they're friends). The landlady is a budding novelist - and it transpires that the plot of her as yet unpublished novel bears an uncanny resemblance to the way the woman has been murdered. There are many twists and turns before we find out whodunnit and why. This is a good crime/thriller and I would definitely read the next one by this author. Some of the descriptions of Jeppe, and his strong feelings for a married woman of his acquaintance, were a bit cringe-making but otherwise a good novel.

An excellent police procedural with detectives Jeppe Kørner and Anette Werner at its centre. Jeppe is your typical depressed Scandinavian detective who hasn’t recovered from his divorce. Werner has a much more upbeat personality which is a constant source of irritation for Jeppe. The interactions between them are an entertaining part of the book.

There are very few clues to what seems to have been a meticulously planned crime and suspects abound. When another murder takes place Kørner and Werner are in a race against time to identify the culprit.

This well plotted novel is a full of intrigue and clever twists. The writing is fast paced and there is plenty of action. The ending is pretty clever. I raced through this book in a day. It will appeal to readers of Jo Nesbo and Jussi Adler-Olsen.

I actually rather enjoyed this book. I did find it a little confusing at times and had to think a bit about the ending and how it all tied up, but I thought it was an interesting story, well translated and a good introduction to this author. I will be looking out for more books in the future.

I loved the sound of this book but unfortunately, it wasn't for me. I couldn't get to grips with the characters and the way it was written was confusing. I read the first 10% but couldn't finish.

I struggled to get into this mystery. It didn't grab my attention but I found things did start to pick up in the second half.

I love a good crime/thriller novel and I had high expectations for this book but it didn’t really deliver. There was a lot of promise but I feel like it didn’t quite hit the mark and at times it was quite hard going to finish. It wasn’t a bad book but could have been better

I feel really on the fence about this book. I love a thriller/crime fiction novel, but I feel that this didn't quite hit the mark. The book is a medium-paced thriller, following Danish police officers Jeppe and Anette after a young girl is murdered. This pace allows for some amazing detail in the story, and I loved the extra detail that a shorter/faster-paced crime fiction novel wouldn't necessarily have. It allowed the book to feel well-rounded, and I definitely felt like I wasn't missing any of the story.

I'm not a fan of the 'police officer who has just been through a break up and has relations with a colleague/witness/key character' trope, if I'm honest, and this was very present in this book. I also think some of descriptions of women in the novel were a little crude, and I had to skip over a couple of them as they made me feel a little uncomfortable. I actually didn't really love a lot of the characters in the book, as I found them all a little two-dimensional (except for Jeppe, whose point of view the story is told from), and this book is definitely lacking character development.

I definitely didn't predict the ending, which brilliantly tied in with little clues left throughout the book (a bonus of all the detail!), but I was still left with a few unanswered questions and untied ends. All in all, it's a good plot driven crime novel, it kept me guessing all the way through, but I would've loved a slightly faster pace, and some more character work!

This book sounded interesting. Something I would love. However I don't think there was a single moment where I was gripped.
Everytime I put it down I had to force myself to pick it back up again.
Throughout the book I noticed I wasn't retaining anything. I just didn't care.
Also some parts with the detective 'thoughts' about himself including one part regarding a shower and his lack of sex life was just unnecessary and took me out of the story even more. Why was it needed?
Overall this did nothing for me.
