This book reminded me a lot of “The Lovely Bones”. It doesn’t shy away from dark subjects and for a YA that was surprising

Another great read among as long list of what I can only describe as abuse horror.. No one writes this genre better than Paige Dearth. This stuff is dark. Real dark. If that's what you're looking for, look no further.

What a heartbreakingly infuriating story!!

This story will rip you to shreds and make you question humankind, especially mothers. I’m a mother myself and I was even questioning the things I say and do.

All Molly wanted was a normal life, that didn’t happen so maybe she can have a normal afterlife. Her watching her life and what came to be had me in tears. I’m an easy crier but this was heart-wrenching.

Highly recommended as it’s very well written and laid out. Trust me, by the end you’ll have tears of joy.

This book brings up many interesting thoughts. Is there a limbo? What would it be like to be caught in limbo? I read this book to see the author’s perspective of limbo and the afterlife. I was caught up in the story line,

Told through the heartbreaking eyes of innocence, Paige Dearth’s My Final Breath is a brittle and brutal tale of abuse, mental illness and the selective blindness of adults to look into the unthinkable, to go beyond the surface until it was too late and a young girl was dead. It was from beyond the grave that Molly could finally tell her story, a story she did not even know the truth of until she was beyond help.

Paige Dearth has never shied away from writing in such a manner that makes readers uncomfortable, appalled, fearful and enraged. Her stories are shocking, eye-opening and raw. Molly’s story is no exception and while appropriate for young adult readers, this story is one that no adult should miss either.

Brilliantly told, the emotional pull is huge and if one child is spared, one adult helped, then she has done both her job, and a great service to the world.

The prologue sets the scene telling us how Rona killed her alcoholic mother and lavished the attention she received afterwards. Then Molly's terrrible story begins. She's dead and in Limbo with her guardian, Gwen. Gwen allows her to look back on her life and we learn how her mum, Rona, has been lying to doctors and poisoning her daughter. Can she be stopped before her younger daughter, Ava, faces the same fate?

Rona craved attention and for her, this involved making her daughter ill. Munschausen's-by-proxy is heart-breaking to read about. A mother's instinct should be to protect her child not harm them. I felt quite emotional imagining Molly discovering what her mother had done.

The author had obviously researched the condition well and the I think the book does a great job of raising awareness about the condition. She has an engaging writing style and I felt invested in Molly's journey. There were other issues touched on such as homelessness and love the fact that the author has written another book based on Joon's story who features in 'My final breath.'

Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.

I want to thank Fiction With Meaning LLC and the Netgalley website for allowing me to read this book.

I was immediately attracted by the pretty cover of this book which made me want to read the book.

It finds Molly, who at twelve years old, finds herself in limbo after four years in the hospital. She is afraid that her relatives have forgotten her. She asks only one thing: to return to Earth. Except that she learns that she is well and truly dead. She also learns that everything she thought about her life and her death are pure lies. The hardest thing for her is that she is not the only one to be in this case. Not being able to reach the world of the living, she only wishes that this would not happen again.

A book read in one go so much I was immediately hooked on the story so moving in some passages, captivating, gripping, addictive, full of intrigue, suspense and twists with very endearing characters. I can't wait to discover other books by this author because I love her writing so much.

Some people kill for attention, even if it's supposed to be the ones they love and protect. A 12 year old girl learns this the hard way after she dies from 4 years of her own mother harming her in unimaginable ways. In the style of "The Lovely Bones", she goes to a place called Limbo before she reaches Heaven and relives the life events which led up to her untimely demise. She has a guardian angel to lead her every step of the way who died during the Holocaust. This book takes a predictable turn as all the sudden, she desperately watches as her mother tries to kill her sister, and she can't do anything about it. This book had the perfect ending, and was quite an intriguing read with a part suspense/ part ghost story twist.

Really enjoyed the story here. Definitely a unique read that makes you think. The only thing is that sometimes it was hard to believe Molly was a young girl based on the way she was speaking/thinking.

Wow. Thank you SO much for throwing me a very graphic Holocaust murder-scene! It's SO appreciated! Trigger warnings are there for a reason! Use them!
I stopped reading afterwards and I do not intend to pick this book up again. Yes, awareness is important. So are trigger warnings and it's really not that difficult to use them. I was not expecting a scene like that and I was unwilling to continue reading. If I want to be sick to my stomach, I look at AfD-election posters.

My Final breath is a heartbreaking tale of unbelievable cruelty and devastating sadness. This was a difficult read because of the tragic subject matter. The story behind a tragic death unfolds in a creative, compelling and suspenseful way. A very intense and unsettling book. This story will stay with you long after the tearful conclusion. Thank you Goodreads for my copy. Thank you NetGalley for my ARC.

Limbo-Land.

After taking her last breath, twelve year old Molly wakes up in a place called Limbo. A step between her life and eternal peacefulness.

It’s a time of recollection as Molly looks back with the aid of her guide Gwen. Reconciling what she viewed as truth to what actually occurred, she’s given additional knowledge about her illness and the role of her mother.

This book is extreme. The words flew off the page and it was a quick read for me. On the other side of the spectrum, the subject matter was so sad and disturbing, I needed several breaks.

This was my first by this author and I thought her rendering of the afterlife was very imaginative. The love of Molly’s family for her, and her love for them, was heartbreaking in addition to her sorrow at never being able to grow up.

Very imaginative format to tell this heart-wrenching tale of an abused child. Well written with character development that pulls the reader into the depths of the story. This author has the ability to write about q tough subject with care and compassion.

My Final Breath
by Paige Dearth

Emotional, hearfelt and disturbing story of child abuse. Sad book but overall well written. I appreciated that the story was told by the abused child and thought that was an interesting way to write this book. Child abuse is a topic that I don't enjoy reading about and cannot remember why I requested it. With that said, it was a book worthy of 4 stars because of the quality of writing, but just keep your tissues nearby.

A heartbreaking tale of child abuse and death as told from the point of view of Molly, the abused child. This book at times was hard to read, not only due to the abuse but also because this is supposed to be from a 12 year olds view point. At times it was hard to remember she was 12 as at times she seemed 12 and other times she seemed older. There were a few odd stories sprinkled in that did not need to be told, it was more for I feel shock value or maybe to tell Molly that many people can suffer in horrible ways. I felt sadness throughout the story, there was some peacefulness that Molly finally receives but this story needs a palate cleansing with something lighter to get me out of the sadness I feel. Thank you #NetGalley for this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Heartwrenching and beautifully written. This one is hard to read at times. Told from the victim's point of view, Molly takes readers on a unique journey. This story will stick with you long after the last page.

Do you know what Münchausen syndrome is? Strictly speaking it is a person who has extensive medical knowledge and makes them self sick for attention and sympathy. Factitious disorder is when a person (in the book) abuses another person in order to seek attention or sympathy. It can caused the abused person to be very ill or even unnecessary corrective procedures. Molly’s mom purposely makes Molly sick. The author has Ritter a novel that shows how sad this illness is and how it can affect both the abuser and the abused. It’s discover how a parent can not be aware of the other parent is doing. Besides the novel being about this illness, it is also about how a death of a loved one affects the family. This novel is an excellent springboard to bring up the diseases and the subject of death. It is an emotion filled story. I will not forget it.
