Everyone has a secret. Who would you trust with yours?
On Selena Murphy’s train home from work, a mysterious woman named Martha strikes up a conversation and shares a confession: she’s having an affair with her boss. In turn, Selena shares her own secret: she suspects her husband is sleeping with the nanny.

At Selena’s station the two women part, and Selena never expects to see her again. Until she receives a message. I’d love to continue our conversation. Can we get together? It’s Martha, by the way. From the train.

But Selena never gave Martha her number. She brushes the message off – until days later her nanny goes missing, and Selena begins to wonder if it’s all connected. Who is Martha, really? And what does she want with Selena?

This book is told from multiple viewpoints and I always find that books written like this are fast paced and overall more engaging. You desperately want to know what is going to happen in the books and what each different character is thinking.

I thought I had this book all figured out and knew exactly what was happening. However, the author threw in so many twists and turns that I laughed at my original theory. This book is highly recommended!

This book kept me up late into the night! Full of twists and turns and great characters.

Selena is a hard working mother of two boys. She works in the city and her husband job hunts at home. They've hired a nanny called Geneva who's excellent with the children and great at maintaining the house.

As Selena's husband has been unfaithful before, Selena decides to move the nanny cam into the playroom. What she discovers triggers a series of events which are shocking.

A must read. Thank you to #netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to review this book.

This was my first time reading from this author and the premise sounded interesting. I was expecting a storyline along the lines of Girl on The Train but for me this was lacking a little and there was too many characters and aliases to try and keep track of. I feel like it could have been more effective if it was simplified and a little shorter/more fast paced.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing an ecopy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

When I read the blurb for this book I was hoping for a Gone Girl/The Girl On The Train style story. And I'd seen many others compare it to Strangers On A Train.
Sadly it did not live up to my expectations.
It lacked the kind of pacing that I would expect from a book like this.
And as a result it began to bore me and feel like it took forever to read.
It was well written and I would be open to reading more from this author in the future but sadly this was very middle of the road for me.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely love this author, and have read quite a few of hers, but unfortunately this was not one of my favourites.

The story seemed to drag along, and didn't really get to that wow finish.

I'm sure that this is just a blip in my reading as opposed to the author, who I would highly recommend.

loved this – an almost old school psychological thriller with the twists and turns of the kind I love- not the in your face kind but the quiet, clever kind that take you by surprise in intelligently plotted ways.

This is all about the characters and who they are and were, wrapped up in a deliciously addictive mystery that keeps you turning the pages way past bedtime. A chance meeting on a train, two confessions and a parting of ways…or so Selena thinks but then her world becomes suddenly unknown to her.

Lisa Unger plays with perception and consistently defies assumption, that plus her trademark excellent writing make this an absolute must read for fans of twisty mysteries.

Highly recommended.

a ' Gone Girl' and ' Strangers on a train' type of novel but I felt as if I had read it before but there was something missing.

When Selena meets Martha on the train home, and they discuss the troubles with the men in their lives, my mind immediately jumped to Strangers on a Train, the Hitchcock classic. Lucky for me, this is much more entailed and far more twisty than that great film.

In her trademark style, Lisa Unger builds a story of many layers that does not disappoint. Though I did not warm to Selena as I expected I would, I did appreciate the terrific twists that are handed to the reader with professional ease by this talented, faultless writer. No one writes a story quite like Ms. Unger and that is to our gleeful delight as we know this proven author will keep us amused with a brilliant yarn. What might normally be considered a fab beach read will now fall into the category of a great distraction from covid. Thank you for the joy of a sure thing, Lisa!

After seeing this one all over the bookstagram, i gave in and damn if it wasn't a great thriller.
It's my first book by the author and i'll be on a look out for her other stories because this one was addictive from the first chapter to the last.
There are many things that i don't agree in here but maybe that was just what worked better in the end, because i was expecting a different ending and that final plot twist was so worth it.
Suspenseful and intriguing, Confessions on the 7:45 is a must read novel for the lovers of the genre.

There has been a real buzz around this book and fantastic reviews so I was so excited to read it and it absolutely didn’t disappoint. Selena, working late at the office, logs into her home security system and sees her husband having sex with Geneva the nanny. As she travels home on the train she meets Maria. They strike up a conversation and share a drink together. Maria confesses to an affair; Selena voices a suspicion of her husband having an affair. Days later Geneva disappears and Selena receives a text from Maria asking to meet up. Who is Maria and how has she got Selena’s number? And where is Geneva? In days Selena’s life implodes. Wow this is a mind blowing feast of a plot. The plot switches between the accounts of several characters as their stories run around like railway lines before finally joining up. This is a dark story of manipulation, subterfuge, masquerading..At times you wonder if you like any of the characters, and wonder at the darkness of people’s lives, but the story propels you forwards and you are completely wrapped up in the plot. Charlie and Pearl’s storyline is particularly fascinating-for some reason I felt myself to be deep in a black and white film at this point - the story became so visual to me. This is so ingeniously plotted and utterly compelling and I just never guessed any of it! You just can’t put this book down. Five ***** With thanks to Netgalley, HQ Stories and Harper Collins for a digital copy of this amazing read.

When Selina discovers her husband is sleeping with the nanny, meeting a friendly stranger on the train gives her an outlet to tell someone her problems. She doesn't think she will ever see Martha again but when she starts getting text messages from her her life begins to unravel at an alarming rate. This is a good thriller. The characters are well written. The twists are enough to keep you guessing, even when you think you know you will keep questioning yourself. There is a great intertwining of back stories to the characters that adds a depth to the characters. The writing style is easy to read. I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Earned every one of my 5 stars. Thank you to Netgalley and HQ for allowing me to preview this title

Wow! Wow! Wow!

Now, this book has been on my watch list for a while and as much as I loved this ARC (thank you Lisa for allowing me to read this) I am actually going to purchase a physical copy for myself.

This book captivated me from the beginning. I was gripped and sitting on the edge of my seat throughout the whole read. This was my first read of Lisa Unger and won't be my last. She absolutely hit the nail in head with this one, as a huge psychological thriller fan, this was right up my street.

Excellent read, highly recommend. In my top 5 for 2020.

After reading the cover I expected to love or at least like this one, however I was sadly wrong I found it be quite boring and did not like the plot sorry.

This is the first of Lisa Unger’s books I have read and it certainly won't be the last. As an avid reader of psychological thrillers, this was a most enjoyable read.

Selena is returning home from work, eager to get home to her family and spend time with her two boys before bedtime. When the train stops for no apparent reason she finds herself striking a conversation with a nearby fellow passenger – Martha. Soon the pair find they are sharing some of their best-kept secrets. Martha confesses to having an affair with her boss and Selena shares her suspicion that her husband, Graham, is having an affair with their nanny, Geneva.

The story takes a dramatic turn when a few days later, Geneva disappears without a trace.
From here on in, this fast-paced thriller takes us on a journey as Selena begins to wonder if her chance meeting with Martha was more than a coincidence.

Each chapter is written from the POV of the characters, which are all well developed and believable. The pace of the story was excellent and kept me engaged throughout. I’d recommend this title to anyone who enjoys psychological thrillers with a strong storyline and characters.

Many thanks to HQ, NetGalley UK, and Lisa Unger for the review copy of this title.

I so wanted to like this book, the cover draws you and you expect it to be like Girl on a train or an Alfred Hitchcock movie but it was boring, I swear I had to read till the end to find a plot that was boring and unrealistic. Too many characters that don’t blend in the book, I struggled to keep up with who was who. I wish the book in my head was the one I read as at least I would have been entertained.

Thank you to HQ and Net galley for the advanced copy.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable, if slightly predictable read. I twigged quite early as to how the author was confounding the reader but doing so in no way spoiled my enjoyment of the book. Many thanks to Netgalley for an arc of this book. Read full review

Really enjoyed this book! It had Gone Girl/Girl on a Train vibes.

There are multiple plots across characters - Martha; the woman on the train, the main character Selena, with side plots from other characters whose and backstory don't seemingly fit into the main story.

It all comes together in the end, and Maura and Selenas link is finally revealed although not in a way you'd expect. The villain is more nuanced than usual in thrillers, and I like the ending that the villain in question was given. It definitely didn't adhere to the usual predictable ending.

Highly recommend this - it's light enough to enjoy but gripping enough to leave you guessing.

There is no messing from this author!
What do I mean by this?, am not 100% sure 🤓 but this is a challenging, visceral, no holds barred look at a complex set of relationships that just about wing it, until they dont
The book focuses on impersonation and how people who seek revenge wheedle their way into their victims lives
For instance on the 7:45 train
The plot, other than what have said above would take me pages to try and explain so I think, for this book, its good to go in pretty blind with just a few basics
The story itself is perplexing, claustrophobic, at times tiring, unforgiving and fascinating, all in equal measure and never ever lets up
It’s a raw dark read introducing characters you really dont want to know and is delicious in its ability to be so different
I got the feeling the story was going to be told, readers or not and you were there as a guest looking in at what was happening
All told, intriguing and unforgettable and a tad unsettling

Confessions on the 7:45 is the first Lisa Unger book I have read and I doubt it will be the last. I loved it. Full of psychological suspense and tension, this play on an old theme brought a fresh new life into a previously overworked concept.

The characters are well fleshed out and although mentally unstable for the most part, they all have their stories to tell.

You'll be asking yourself, do I want to read on, can I handle it? And answering yourself with, of course I do, I need to see what happens! The pages will be turned with anticipation and dread as to what is just around the corner.

Selena and Martha swap stories on the train home and this sparks a dangerous game of cat and mouse, including the obligatory cheating nanny and married lover.

Pick this one up for tension, suspense and entertainment. Definitely recommended.
