Selena was held up at a meeting & caught a later train. Whilst the train was held up she began to chat to the woman sitting next to her. This woman confesses that she has been having an affair with her boss & doesn't know how to get out of it. Selena confesses that she knows her husband is having an affair with the nanny. They go their separate ways. A day or so later the nanny doesn't turn up for work. Selena also gets a text from 'Martha from the Train'- she has no recollection of giving her the number.

I thought this was going to be a straight forward read along the lines of 'Strangers On A Train' but it wasn't- it was much more complicated. Told from various perspectives, I just thought I had a handle on it when something happened to confuse me further. This was a read that turned out to be better than I expected. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.

The opening scenes of Lisa Unger's Confessions on the 745 are reminiscent of Highsmith's Strangers on a Train; when Selena meets Martha on the 745 train home from work they each share their secrets. Soon after this, despite never giving Martha her number she receives a message from her and then her nanny whom she suspected of having an affair with her husband goes missing.
I loved some of Lisa Unger's early novels and so was excited to read this. As a huge fan of Strangers on the Train I loved the premise of this novel and the setting. However, despite the quality of Unger's writing this just did not grip me. I felt that it lacked pacing and although it had all the ingredients of a good psychological thriller there was something missing for me.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital ARC.

Confessions On The 7.45 by Lisa Unger was a great read, I loved it. Told from multiple view points and swapping between the past and the present it gripped me from the first few pages. Plenty of twists and turns throughout.

Confessions on the 7:45 is a new psychological thriller by Lisa Unger. I am a huge fan of Lisa’s writing and her newest novel did not disappoint.

When Selena misses her usual train home and takes a later one, she meets Martha with whom she connects straight away. Both women end up talking and sharing their secrets. But Selena’s life is about to get more complicated when her nanny goes missing and she starts questioning who really Martha is.

As expected from the author the story was brilliantly crafted, well plotted and very clever. I loved the characters and was invested in their past and secrets. The book follows different timelines and alternates between multiple characters but it’s really easy to follow the plot.

It wasn’t very difficult to work out what’s happening and join all the dots as the author provides many clues but it didn’t lessen my enjoyment of reading. I would prefer a little bit more twist to the ending but nonetheless it was a fantastic read.

If you are looking for a very fast and absorbing thriller please grab a copy of Lisa’s new release.

This is my first book by this author. Selena discovers her husband is having an affair with their nanny and then shares her secret with a stranger on the commute home. The woman on the train, Martha also has a secret and before they know it, they are both confessing what is going on in their lives to each other. When Selena’s nanny then goes missing, and Martha begins texting Selena, the story takes a sinister and twisted turn as Selena begins to wonder who Martha really is.

I really liked the sound of this book! You just knew it wasn’t going to end very well when you start to share secrets with a stranger on a train!! The book started well, and I found myself really sympathising with Selena. She works hard, pays for everything to keep her family’s life comfortable and has to put up with her husband being out of work and not making much effort in finding a job. When she sees her husband having sex on the nanny-cam whilst she is at work, it’s obviously the last straw for her.

Told mainly from the perspective of two of the main characters, the story twists and turns throughout these characters stories, revealing more about their characters. I have to admit, I did find some of the storyline confusing, particularly the Anna/Martha storyline as the character has multiple different alter-egos which took some concentrating to keep up with! There were also a lot of other characters, and some I felt didn’t have any explanation as to who they were, and this added some confusion to the plot at times.

The plot in itself though was good and I loved the premise of a scorned wife, vengeful mistress and missing nanny. Of course, there is lots of red herrings, dead ends and misdirection, and the scorned, vengeful and missing parts of the characters swap and changes along with each of their individual stories!! Despite the ‘confusing’ storyline, the pace of the book moves along well, and if you can keep up and concentrate then this is a book you will enjoy. For me, whilst a good storyline, it was a little over complicated and this did spoil my enjoyment of the story a little. It is however, full of tension and suspense with a reveal I wasn’t expecting!

Lisa Unger never disappoints. NEVER. Confession on the 7:45 is another gripping and addictive novel that it was very hard to put down, especially because most of the chapters ended with some sort of cliffhanger or the promise of a big revelation that made me say “just one more chapter and then I’ll stop reading” (and then I didn’t!).

At the center of this new novel by Lisa Unger there are secrets and choices. What if, ten years earlier, Selena hadn’t chosen Graham over her then boyfriend Will? Would she have been happier? Would she now be confiding her secrets to a stranger on a train during her commute home? What if she had made different decisions during her marriage? Would she be spying on her husband and their nanny?

Martha, is the stranger on the train to whom Selena confided, and she has her secrets, too. She is sleeping with her boss and she fears for her job, should his wife find out. But what if their problems would just disappear? What if Selena’s nanny simply disappeared? Would Selena’s problems be over? Or would they just begin?

Confession on the 7:45 is completely addictive. The more I read the more I wanted to know more about the characters, about Selena, about Martha, about the nanny, about the mysterious young Pearl. The plot is dark, intricate, and twisty, the pace is perfect, and I loved how the author slowly unravels the truth, giving you little pieces of the puzzle that slowly comes together.

Confession on the 7:45 will keep you on the edge of your seat and will leave you wondering: who can you trust?

Thanks to Netgalley for this arc. I was hooked by the Strangers on the Train vibe of this book.

Confessions on the 7.45 follows three protagonists:
* Selena - Selena has returned to work in a publishing company where her friend is the CEO. Her husband, Graham, has been made redundant. He's at home looking for a job. One day Selena sees on her nanny cam that her husband has been having an affair with her their nanny. She confides this to a stranger on the train one evening and the following day the nanny disappears...
* Martha - Martha has been having an affair with her boss's husband and confides her secret to a stranger (Selena) on the train one evening...
* Pearl - 15-year old Pearl lives with her single mother, who has a string of boyfriends. But there's something different about her new boyfriend, Charlie...
How these storylines merge forms the basis for this novel, which was pacy and riveting. I tore through this. I found the plot twists a bit predictable, nonetheless this was an enjoyable read.

selena Murphy is commuting from home for her job in the city when th3 train stalls out on the tracks. She strikes up a conversation with a beautiful stranger in the next seat and their connection is fast and easy. The woman introduces herself as Martha and confesses being stuck in an affair with her boss. Selena confesses that she thinks her husband is sleeping with the nanny. The two women part company when the train arrives in the station. But days later, Selena's nanny disappears.

5he format this book is written in chapters from one of the six characters perspective. Geneva Selena's nanny, disappears. The police become involves and zero in on her husband, Graham. There's motives, secrets, hidden pasts and lies. With some unexpected twists and surprises. The suspense builds throughout. There's also some foul language, intimate relations and violence. This is a well written and gripping read.

I would like to thank #NetGalley, #HQ and the author #LisaUnger for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy. I loved this book! I haven't read Lisa before, but the cover on this book drew me in enough to give it a try. Lots of twists in here that were revealed-not in ways I saw coming. Will def give more of her books a shot!

This was a brilliant story! When Selena travels home from work on the later than usual 7.45 train she sits next to an unknown lady. For some reason Selena confides in this woman about her husband's affair with their nanny. Soon after the police come knocking informing Selena and her husband that their nanny has been reported missing. This book had me second guessing almost all the way through to the end. A really satisfying conclusion that tied everything up well. Really enjoyed and will recommend.

I really enjoyed this book. It’s rather creepy, chilling and it is overall a thrilling read. There was one point in the book where a twist is revealed which changed things and made me literally gasp, that kept me reading and wanting to know what was going to happen. A few of the characters are known by multiple names (all part of the plot) but, I did find I had to concentrate hard to keep up with who was who, and sometimes re-read over parts to keep up with what was going on. Overall there’s murder, cheating, conning and hidden buried secrets, all of which makes for a wonderful rollercoaster of a story. I haven’t read any books before by this author but, definitely will be reading more now.

A chance meeting on a train, or is it ? Two women confess a secret and then the story begins. This book had me turning the pages quickly to see how it all unfolded, and I was not disappointed to see it unravel. Good read.

*ALL HAIL LISA UNGER!*

Now this is what you call a psychological thriller, I am still buzzing, WHAT A READ!

If you are after a super fast paced, thrilling and entertaining read than this is the one for you.

What an original, dynamic, amazingly thought out storyline. As soon as I read the blurb I knew this was right up my street and it did not disappoint.

This left me constantly intrigued, never quote knowing what was going on. The characters were sublime and even though there were ALOT of characters, it wasn't overkill, you're able to keep up with out confusion. If anything it all just added yo the complexity of the story.

Everything about this book is twisted, the storyline, the characters, the backgrounds and plot.. exactly what I was hoping for and exactly what I got!

Completely engrossing, undeniably enthralling, I cannot rate this any higher.

The biggest 5*

The biggest thanks to netgalley and HQ for the ARC.

This book is full of twists and turns and it kept me guessing until the very end when all just exploded in my face. I mean, wow! Not in a million years I would have expected what happened. Lisa Unger done one incredible job with this book. It is most definitely a dark and gripping five star psychological thriller. It is fast paced and keeps you guessing.
I have to say that it is by far the best book I have read this year and I will not be able to recommended enough.

Narrated from different POVs, Confessions on the 7:45 is not confusing at all. On the contrary. I knew from the beginning who is who (at least what the author let me think). Characters are so well built and so detailed that they could easily be anyone I know. They are so real and so reachable that makes me think: who is everyone? Are they who they pretend to be?

“It was about the truth. The truth like a wildfire that burned everything in its path.“

Selena discovers a secret that rocks her world off balance. She is so overwhelmed by it that she confesses the secret to the woman opposite her on her commute home. But surely it’s just a moment of madness and it’s all fine because Selena will never see Martha again right? Except she starts getting texts from Martha and Selena is pretty sure she never gave out her number. Before she knows it, Selena’s life is spiralling out of control.

Here is the thing about “Confessions on the 7.45” - you will read the blurb and think you know exactly what is heading your way. Forget it, you don’t. It’s a rollercoaster of a ride with enough twists to satisfy even the most seasoned reader of thrillers. I loved the chapters from the different perspectives. The depth of characters are complex enough that you find yourself changing your opinion on them several times within the plot. Within the novel themes of family, marriage, feminism, truth and justice are explored in an interesting and though provoking way. It’s a chilling read and a unpredictable, satisfying ending. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

I would firstly like to thank Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Here is a story that had me stumped instantly. A stranger, secrets, and a message from nowhere?? Just creepy.
I had no idea what was gonna happen next!
While I was definitely intrigued by the premise of the story, there was something missing. I can't quite put my finger on what, but it wasn't quite the page-turner that I had expected. I just didn't have the desire to keep reading with this read.
Regardless, with a reveal that I couldn't guess, a steadily-paced story of betrayal and revenge, and a satisfying ending; I still would recommend this one.

Martha and Selena are strangers who meet on a train. Both have had a hard day and with the help of some vodka each reveals something about themselves that perhaps should have been kept private. Selena particularly comes to regret her candour as her nanny goes missing and her husband is held for questioning. What follows is a story that is far bigger than a marriage in trouble and a missing woman. It is a story about family secrets, power, trust, greed and vulnerability. It also asks just how well you truly know those people around you and who is deserving of your trust.

This book has the most delicious, complicated, conniving, vulnerable, impressive anti-heroine I have had the pleasure to read about this year. She is a character with multiple persona's and the clever reveal of her history created a complex range of emotions in me. Each time I thought I had a handle on Martha another piece of the puzzle would be revealed, and I had to keep reading to see how this new knowledge about her impacted Selena's life.

The pieces of the mysteries in the book; the missing nanny, Selena and her husband's relationship and the connection between Martha and Selena are gradually revealed. Everything is brought together in an immensley satisfying way and my only disappointment is that I have finished the book.

Lisa Ungar is definitely one of my favourite authors and I would like to thank the publishers and Net Galley for the advanced copy in return for an honest review.

This is American domestic noir at its very best. There's a homage here to that great Patricia Highsmith classic Strangers on a Train, and more contemporary novels like The Girl on the Train.
You would need a very good crystal ball to predict any of the very clever twists in this multi-layered plot. The structure is perfect, clever and provocative with a grip capable of keeping you awake well into the witching hour or until the very last page is turned.

This was a good read, albeit a little complicated and with lots of characters woven together.
It starts off as an innocent conversation with a stranger on a train but soon develops into a huge web of secrets and lies, and the lengths people go to enact revenge or to cover up their deceit.
A good introduction to Unger's novels and one I would recommend.
