The longer this book went on, the more I found myself enjoying it.

I wasn’t too sure at the start, it felt it bit YA, a bit rushed. However, the characters of Merlin and Susan really grew on me. They worked very well together. Added to this, I loved the idea of the booksellers who have powers to kill. It’s just felt so... London. A perfect idea.

The story progressed at a great pace, and built to a very satisfying and enjoyable conclusion. Well worth a read.

This started out feeling like a story in a similar vein to Gaiman's Neverwhere and ended with a cracking battle but, somehow, it lost me in the middle somehow. There was enough going on to keep me reading and I'm glad I stuck with it but it was a chore at times.

Where the book did stand out, for me, was the imagery. Nix seems to have a real skill here, painting graphic scenes of both horror and beauty with his words
