This was a great addition to my after school club. My intermediate students (4th through 6th) enjoyed the easy-to-follow steps. The color suggestions were much appreciated as a starting point and it didn't take long for them to come up with their own variations.

Thank you to NetGalley, Mary Woodin, and the publisher for this advanced readers copy in exchange for my honest review.

Another great art book from this publisher. This one helps you create drawings of meadow, forest, or coastal objects in a series of 10 steps. This method works for beginners of all ages.

Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to review a temporary digital ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.

I've always wanted to learn to draw, but became convinced I can't. This book teaches otherwise. Step by step instructions will have you drawing nature in no time at all. I would say to practice to get better, and this book is a great tool for doing so.

Mary Woodin writes books that warm this doodler's heart. As a teacher who regularly encourages her students to incorporate art into their assignments (but struggles to provide a model for them), I found this so helpful! I can't wait to use this book with my students.

Learn to draw nature
"Ten-Step Drawing: Nature. Draw 60 plants & animals in ten easy steps" is presented by artist and illustrator Mary Woodin and was published by Quarto Publishing Group – Walter Foster. The goal of the book is to help aspiring illustrators, doodlers, and art hobbyists with the basic principles of drawing in order to grow their confidence. It is one of the books in the Ten-Step Drawing series that covers topics such as flowers, animals, and people. After the introduction to be book and some basic instructions Woodin has divided the book into three main parts: 1) Meadow & Wetland, 2) Forest, and 3) Coast. Woodin shows the basic principles of drawing in a step-by-step approach using dotted guide lines as a help, breaking the drawings down into manageable pieces. She also shows how the drawings can be colored to finalize them. To achieve this she includes the color palettes with the drawings. In spite of the fact that Woodin recommends colored pencils or watercolors for coloring, the book can be also helpful for artist who use other mediums.
This book is not only for nature lovers among the aspiring illustrators, doodlers, and art hobbyists, it can be also useful for advanced artists. I can recommend it for those who want to learn to or improve their knowledge of drawing nature. Nevertheless, it is important to note that there are no step-by-step instructions for the coloring, only for the drawing.
The complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley free of charge. I was under no obligation to offer a positive review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This was a great and simple step-by-step drawing book that has all kinds of plants and animals from three categories: meadow & wetland, forest, and coast. The drawings are simple enough for a beginner to do, and yet detailed enough to be impressive. The drawings also leave room for you to experiment with how you draw it. I loved the color palette they provide for each drawing as well as a little tidbit either about the plant/animal or a tip or suggestion on how to draw/color it.

This books really only teaches you how to paint an exact copy. For an aspiring painter this is no help. There is no how and why, just 10 steps with unhelpful commentary. While the artwork seems okay, many pictures that are supposedly in colored pencil seem digitally enhanced, and I am sorry to say that the artists colored pencil skills are, at least in these pictures, severely lacking. I would recommend anyone who wants to start drawing nature a differnt book.

Ten-Step Drawing: Nature is filled with instructions for drawing a ton of cute and amazing items from nature. The steps are detailed and the pictures included are easy to follow. I tried out a few of the drawings as I read the book and the sketches were easy to complete and came out really good! The book was broken into different sections of nature, so if you prefer forest animals, you could skip to that section and try sketching some forest items! The majority of the items included were plants and animals. If you’re interested in learning how to draw items from nature, this book is for you!

Very straightforward to follow along and I think even beginners can start drawing realistic birds and shrubs! I followed the first few pages along with just pencils and the pictures turned out great. I can definitely see myself gifting this book to people who are interested in art.

Excellent Guide to Nature Drawing

Even though I don't consider myself particularly visually artistic, I'm always drawn to books like this that purport to teach you about how to draw complex things by breaking the process down into simple steps. I love that this book breaks each drawing into 10 steps. I've often thought the books I've reviewed of this type show far too few steps, often making great leaps toward the end. Ten steps appear to be just about right! The final step shows how the author has colored the finished drawing using pencils. She even goes so far as to show you with small circles the precise colors she used. The book is broadly divided into three sections: meadow and wetland, forest, and coast. It also has a brief introduction and instructions. All in all, I thought this was a fantastic book to learn how to draw all sorts of animals, plants, insects, and other features that you will see if you go out into nature.

Excellent step by step book for learning to draw a wide variety of nature subjects. The instructions are very easy to follow and would suit a complete beginner. Especially those who believe they are not very good a drawing. There was just enough stages to each picture to make it easy and I liked the colour suggestions. This would make a great present for a child or an adult learning to draw. Completing one of the projects to a good standard is very satisfying. Overall a great book.
