This is a great book about friendship honesty and creativity. Gary the seagull just wants to have some food. But every time he gets close one of the kids shoos him away. Until he meets another boy and he figures he can trick him by pretending to be a police officer his dad. It has a sweet ending too.

This is a children's book. This book is so cute. I really love the pictures, and Gary the Seagull was so cute. I think kids will love this book, but there was no big hind message in this book like a lot of children's book has. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Nimbus Publishing) or author (Christian Johnston) via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review about how I feel about this book, and I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

I have to say I wasn't really on board with this book until the very end, and the wordless punchline to the whole set-up. Gary the Seagull, as if you did need telling, likes squawking at other gulls, floating on the sea, and nabbing our human food. But one kid he zones in on, thinking he'll be a soft touch, is anything but… The artwork isn't exactly a modern classic (the colour diversity in the people on the beach leaving me wondering why people aren't also doing wheelchair beach volleyball for the blind in the background), and the text doesn't really show much in the way of being a huge success, either – which is exemplified by the big yuck, the real raison d'etre of the book, being when the words drop out and we get what the whole thing was in aid of. Without giving the game away, it's laugh out loud successful, but I do wonder if a book geared to just that unrepeatable twist is exactly a must-buy. With that in mind it's three and a half stars from me.

A super funny and quirky book about Gary the Seagull. Gary just wants to eat and has to try various tricks to get a snack. A very charming and fun book with gorgeous artwork! I think this would be such a fun read for kids and that they'd definite enjoy it.
