I really enjoyed “Nine Elms” and thought it was the start to an intriguing new police procedural series. So, when I saw the next instalment for this series on NetGalley I couldn’t wait to read it. “Shadow Sands” did not disappoint!

I personally did enjoy the storyline of “Nine Elms” more than “Shadow Sands”, but that fact doesn’t impact my review rating. I love that Tristan had more sub plot context this time and found his storyline to be both relatable and emotional. Equally I enjoyed seeing the relationship development between Kate and Tristan as well as the relationship between Kate and her son Jake.

I’m excited to see where this series goes and I’m looking forward to book three!

Thank you to #NetGalley, #Sphere, #LittleBrownBookGroupUK, and #RobertBryndza for an ARC of #ShadowSands in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first novel I've read by Robert Bryndza and I'll definitely be reading more. It was an easy, enjoyable and atmospheric read with a likeable protagonist in Kate Marshall, a former police detective who discovers the body of a young man in a local reservoir. The plot was original and I liked the links to historical murders and the mythical serial killer. An excellent read that I raced through in two sittings and would recommend to fans of this genre.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital ARC.

I wondered with this if it would delight me as much as his other series and I can honestly say, it’s every bit as good as. Erika Foster move over, there’s a new cop in town... cannot wait for the next instalment!

This is the second book in the series featuring Kate Marshall. I hadn’t read the first one but thought this book read well as a stand-alone. Kate is a former police detective but left the force in the 90s after catching a serial killer. Kate is now working as a criminology lecturer and private investigator assisted by Tristan Hope, Kate is diving in a local reservoir Shadow Sands, with her son Jake when they discover the body of a teenage boy Simon Kendal, entangled in the weeds. The police rule his death as an accident but after being approached by Simon’s mother Kate begins to doubt this. On investigation Kate and Tristan discover that there were some mistakes in the post-mortem and the police confirm that he was murdered. They also discover that there has been strange goings on at the reservoir and that similar deaths have occurred in the past but have been described as unfortunate accidents. Together Kate and Tristan begin to unravel the truth of what has been happening over the past few years as we learn more about their personal struggles. This book is full of missing, people, dead bodies and local legends which makes it a gripping read. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
Thanks to Netgalley and Sphere for giving me a chance to read and review this book.

Kate Marshall finds a body of a teenager while for diving in Shadow Sands reservoir. She is later contacted by his mother asking for her assistance as the police have ruled it an accident all too quickly. Kate and colleague, Tristan starts asking questions and is soon warned off by a local with a shotgun. Tristans new acquaintance, Magdalena suddenly goes missing at the same time a lot of historical suspicious deaths in the reservoir are unearthed. Kate and Tristan need to work out what’s going on with the reservoir deaths and find Magdalena before it’s too late. The police do not seem to be doing their best to help on either case.
A new author to me, but look forward to reading more. Enjoyed the pace and narrative of this book.

Kate Marshall is trying to bond with her teenage son. When diving in a reservoir to look at a submerged village they find a dead body. The mother of the dead boy begs Kate to find out what had happened. Although no longer with the police she has some connections & it seems that this lad is not the only one to disappear near to this body of water. Along with her research assistant she decides that she will make every attempt to find out the truth.

I loved Robert Bryndza's Erica Foster series but Kate Marshall hasn't quite grabbed me in the same way. That said, I enjoyed the story and will be keen to read the next one. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.

I am a huge fan of Robert Bryndza's books, they are exciting and believable with a very likeable lead character. This second book in the Kate Marshall series does not disappoint.

Kate and son Jake are diving in a local reservoir when Jake comes face to face with a body in the water. Kate tries to find out what happened to this young man and how he ended up drowning when, in fact, he was an Olympic grade swimmer. Shortly afterwards, a young Italian teacher from Tristan's college goes missing, Kate and Tristan wonder if possibly these events are connected. You just know there will be trouble ahead! Throw in an encounter with Kate's ex - former police officer turned serial killer, the Nine Elms Cannibal and you have a book that makes for gripping, compulsive reading.

Robert Bryndza's writing flows on the pages, it makes for pretty easy reading and sucks you right into the story from the outset. Kate and Tristan's personalities are developing and while they are flawed and altogether human characters, they are also captivating in a way that makes you cheer for them as the book goes on.

Looking forward to seeing what this crime fighting duo get up to next.

I couldn't decide whether I liked this book or the first in the series 'Nine Elms' better, but in the end I decided they were probably equally good, though perhaps the pace isn't quite as fast in this story and the reader finds more about the personal lives of Kate and her assistant, Tristan. After Kate and her son find a body whilst they are diving in a local lake Kate's natural detective instincts are aroused. When it is firstly declared as an accidental death, Kate and her assistant, Tristan, start doing some investigation of their own. Their efforts cause the death to be reexamined, but the outcome doesn't match Kate's investigation, so, undeterred, she and Tristan continue making inquiries into a number of disappearances in the area over a few years. These inquiries gain in intensity when an acquaintance of theirs goes missing. Ultimately Kate and Tristan make a breakthrough and solve the mystery of the disappearances. It comes as no surprise that at the end of this book Kate decides she will become a full time investigator, and I look forward to the next book in the series.

His is the second book in the series. I didn't find it quite as captivating as the first installment, however the story was still thrilling and full of suspense. I enjoyed the pace of the plot as the story unfolds, and the interactions between the characters.

Another brilliant story from Robert Bryndza. I've loved all his books to date and this one didn't disappoint! It's the 2nd in the Kate Marshall series but could be read as a stand alone (I'd recommend getting the first one as that's not one to miss!) A great story, suspenseful, an easy read and stays with you for a while after you've finished it. I do hope there will be more to come in this series.

thank you NetGalley, the author and the publishers for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review

Absolutly love this authors work.
This is the second book to feature Kate Marshall.
I read Nine Elms and was really looking forward to this one. As with all this authors books, I certainly wasn't disappointed.
Robert has a unique way of pulling the reader in and having you devour every single page.
learning more about the character Kate Marshall for me is just as good as the actualy story. I love getting to know the characters. I feel Kate is going to be one of those characters that the more you learn about her, the more you like and admire her.
When Kate and her son are having time together they come accross the body of a young man. Kate is not convinced regarding the accidental drowning verdict the local police are going with and begins to launch her own investigation into his death.

a taut, thrilling page turner that will have fans of this author wanting more.

I read Nine Elms, the first in the Kate Marshall series and it went straight into my top reads of 2020. I loved the storyline and the writing was fast-paced and really added to the tension of the investigation. I jumped at the chance to read Shadow Sands but at the same time I wasn't sure if it would compare with the first. I am happy to say that I also loved this second installment. The characters really stand out to me and it was great to get some more insight into their private lives in this book. The police investigation in Shadow Sands didn't quite grip me as much as the first book but that is a personal preference, I usually prefer slightly darker storylines. I am eagerly awaiting another book and I think that the things we found out about the main characters throughout this installment will be really interesting to explore next time!

This is the second book in the Kate Marshall series and even though I don’t think it was as riveting as the first one it was still a great read. I liked the fact that the main character is not a ‘perfect’ parent and has problems like everyone else. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens in regard to the relationship between kates son and his father.

After reading Robert Bryndza's first series, I was really excited to read this one. I read the first book Nine Elms and loved it - so was even more excited for this one!

I really like Kate and Tristans characters in this series, and I love how they work together and their character development so far.

I have to admit I didn't enjoy this quite as much as I did Nine Elms, but I still loved it and I couldn't put it down. ⁣it's the perfect amount of gore and twists and turns.

I can't wait to read the rest of the series and I highly recommend! ⁣

Thank you to @netgalley and @robertbryndza for gifting me a copy in return for a honest review. ⁣

Shadow Sands by Robert Bryndza is the second book in the Detective Chief Inspector Kate Marshall series and I have enjoyed it. I loved reading the Erica Foster series and this new series has been written in the same high standard. Kate Marshall is on a scuba trip with her son when they make a shocking discovery. Whilst they are spending precious time together they discover a body of a young boy in the Shadow Sands reservoir. Detective chief inspector Kate Marshall wants to find out how this young boy died and she does not go along with the
tragic drowning theory, the local Police are saying it was.
This new series is a Hit for me so far and looking forward to Reading Book 3 in this new brilliant series.

I highly recommend all of Robert's Books.

Big Thank you to Netgalley and Thomas and Mercer for my advanced copy of this book to read.

I was so excited to read this after LOVING Nine Elms earlier in the year.

This one does include a good recap of the previous book with the inclusion of other characters but I would definitely recommend reading Nine Elms first.

Really enjoyed this one, it jumps straight into the details and the kind of writing that I enjoy. There were some bits that made me squirm and some bits that made me feel a bit creeped out.

I really like the main characters/duo for this book and how they’ve progressed in character since Nine Elms. I am definitely looking forward to the 3rd instalment of this series.

Gripping, fast paced and keeps you thinking - highly recommend.
