This was not my first novel by this incredible writer, and will certainly not be my last! The story evolves in a way that keeps the reader enthralled. Highly recommended!

One of my favourite authors and Nine Elms was without doubt one of the best reads for me.
Loved this book. Didn’t have quite the same impact as Nine Elms but it was gripping, very easy to read and I was hooked from start to finish. This opened up the Kate story more than the first and left me desperate for more. I feel like I may have been lulled into a false sense of
Security and the best book is going to be unbelievable.

Wow another nail biting read, and a great follow up to Nine Elms. It starts where Simon is being chased through the dark cold water but although he is an Olympic Standard swimmer there's no way he can out swim a fast boat. Little did Kate know when she took her son Jake diving that such a horror was awaiting them. Seeing the body of Simon with its numerous slashing cuts was something that they would never forget. As the story unfolds you realise that it was far from a tragic accident and Kate sets out to prove it with the help of her assistant Tristan. I was drawn into the book from the very first page. It was up there with my best reads.

Yet another brilliant book from this author. The plot, characters and sense of place are all fabulous and the writing is above par. I can't wait for the next instalment. I enjoyed the section with Peter Conway and I hope he will also feature in the next book.

The follow up to a great novel, like a great album or film can be a path that will either make you or break you. You will either be The Stone Roses - The Second Coming or Francis Ford Coppola with The Godfather 2.
Robert Bryndza has proven he knows how to write with the excellent Erica Foster series but can he do it again or did he just get lucky with Nine Elms. Well pop pickers I can tell you he has smashed it out of the park again. For me this series is The Godfather 2 with bells on. Bloody great big bells. Kate Marshall has such a great back story with so much potential in the hands of Mr Bryndza I can only see good things and I await them extremely impatiently.

I dont pad my reviews with a recap of the story or my deep insight into the authors mind, I just tell you whether the book is worth your time and money. It is.

Its like a grown up Shakespeare and Hathaway and that my friends is a fantastic thing.

As usual it’s the absolute best from Robert Bryndza. The book had me gripped from get go. I always liked the Erika Foster series but find Kate Marshall books even better. Her flawed character is so real that you can feel the emotions she is going through. I specially liked Kate’s interaction with Peter, and the highlight of the story for me was how Kate and Jake found the body in the reservoir. It was almost like a scene from a movie and I could actually imagine it scene by scene.
As I said before, it’s one of Robert’s best books, The plot is excellent and makes the book unputdownable.

Having read and enjoyed a few of Bryndza's previous books,this one lacked a little in pacing for my liking.
There was a lot of people drama,that wasn't that thrilling.
The characters of Kate,Tristan and Peter are what make the book a decent read,but I didn't get any tension from our serial killer and his lair.
Worth reading to be part of the series,but it's not my favourite of his work.

Well, if any evidence were needed that Robert Bryndza is one of the best crime writers around this compelling thriller dispels any doubt. ‘Shadow Sands’ was one heck of a read. Engrossing and a literal page turner, this one had me hooked from the get-go. It is not only Bryndza’s plotting that is flawless and highly imaginative, but his pitch-perfect characterisation. This requires a particularly astute understanding of the human condition and its complexities. Which brings me to the leading lady of this series, investigator Kate Marshall. Marshall’s character, to say the least, is formed by the worst of human nature. Evil in human form. The father of her child was a serial killer, a man who has haunted Kate’s life since. But in this latest instalment if the series Kate is on an even keel, that is until she and teenage son Jake, find a dead body submerged in a reservoir whilst on a diving expedition. The deceased young man was a champion swimmer, an Olympic hopeful, so this was no accidental death. When Kate responds to a plea for help from the young man’s mother, little does she know that she is opening a Pandora’s box of corruption, murder and conspiracy. The truth is literally deadly. Will Kate triumph over the dark forces she will encounter in this case? Well, only by reading this first-class, masterful interpretation of this genre will you find out. For lovers of crime fiction ‘Shadow Sands’ screams ‘read me’. You should. You won’t regret it.

Another fantastic read in this series. This is better than book one, it had me gripped till the last page.
Looking forward to reading more in this series.

This is the second book in the Kate Marshall, investigator series and it was a compelling read that reeled me in from the very first page.
Kate and her assistant, Tristan are asked to investigate the death of a young student, Simon, after Kate and her son, Jake find his body at the bottom of a reservoir when they are diving. The police are quick to rule it an accidental drowning but his mother is convinced he has been murdered as he was a champion swimmer, unlikely to get into difficulties in the water. Gradually they discover that there have been many disappearances in the reservoir area in recent years and their enquiry takes off in a big way.
This is a fast paced read but it is also good for character development as we learn a lot more about Tristan’s private life: his relationship with his sister is examined in detail after Tristan is accused of being complicit in the disappearance of Magdalena, a colleague and possible love interest.
I don’t want to reveal too much more about the plot except that there are a number of twists which kept me on the edge of my seat and I think it is much better to read the book for yourself and experience these.
Kate and Tristan are great characters and I am thoroughly looking forward to the next book. In the series as the last few pages of Shadow Sands pointed to huge plans for them.
Robert Bryndza. Is a wonderful writer with an incredible imagination- I don’t know how he gets into the mind of his evil characters, the perpetrator in this book is particularly awful!

I think this is the best book I’ve read this year. I just couldn’t put it down. I read it within 2 days. Much as I wanted to take my time I really needed to find out how it ended and how the bad guy (or woman!) was caught. I don’t know where Robert gets his ideas but I wouldn’t like to know what goes on in his brain. The twists and turns make this very believable. I can’t recommend this book enough.

This is the second of Robert Bryndza's Kate Marshall thrillers. I have not read the first book, Nine Elms but I did not feel like I missed out on anything by going straight to the second book although I will definitely be putting Nine Elms on my Amazon wish list.

Although the book is quite dark and scary in places I really found it difficult to put this down and the author really develops the characters so that you get to know them more. The story covers many subjects such as police corruption, business corruption and the reality of kidnapping. Very deep subjects but really well covered within the story.

Although this is the first of Robert's book that I have read I feel that it definitely puts him amongst the cream of current thriller authors and I will be looking out for more of his releases.

For me this is a 5 star review and if you are an avid reader I would definitely recommend this book. Don't take it on holiday though as you will not do anything else apart from reading and enjoying the book until you get to the last page and even then you will spend time mulling over the story for days later.

I love this author and devoured this in less than 2 days. This book is dark and a little scary just the way i like it
We met flawed but loveable Kate again as she unwittingly gets dragged into another serial killers story.
Kate is such a well developed character and the author deals well with her continued battle to stay sober and her difficult relationship with Jake.
The story has all the twists and turns of Nine Elms and once more you are rooting for Kate and Tristan as they race to save a woman and prevent more deaths.

Compelling reading.

Just couldn’t stop reading fantastic sequel to Nine Elms. Robert Bryndza has become one of the best crime writers bringing a complex, flawed Kate Marshall to the fore in this new series. The story was fast paced and a real page turner and I couldn’t work out who the murderer was. Looking forward to the next one.

Robert Bryndza’s Erika Foster Series is one of my favourite set of books, I love the main characters and I think Rob has managed to create another series to rival that! The Kate Marshall series is gripping and page-turning, while managing to lure you into the characters lives and begin to really care for them - that’s when I know I’ll love a series of books, when I am bothered by what’s happening in the characters lives rather than just the storyline as a whole. I can’t wait for number 3!

I was fortunate to be sent an advanced copy of this book having given a five star review to the first book in the Kate Marshall series, Nine Elms, which I absolutely loved.

Kate Marshall, ex-police officer, now lecturer in Criminology along with her research assistant, Tristan who becomes drawn into her complicated life, form a formidable duo in this second book. Kate, whose life has been shaped by a disastrous relationship with her son’s father, is living alone just off the beach next door to her AA sponsor with her recovery constantly hanging by a thread. This book sees her relationship with her son further complicated by him being with her as they discover a body then later wanting to see his father again. Tristan has his own issues to deal with, his sister and fiancé being less than supportive. Together Kate and Tristan make a great team, being engaged as private detectives by the mother of a victim to look further into her son’s death which had been deemed accidental by the coroner. This is just the beginning of the journey and that thread intertwines with abductions and serial killing. It is set around a man-made reservoir, a flooded village in a valley, which brings with it local myths and legends along with an atmospheric sea fog to add to the mix.

Robert Bryndza’s writing expertly takes you to those locations, takes you within the lives and minds of the characters so you are living the tale yourself. He leaves you wanting to explore more those characters and care about what happens to them. He describes perfectly the action making you feel right in the middle of it.
I read this book in three sittings and was so disappointed to come to the end of it. Kate’s decision at the end of the book to release herself from the world of academia to concentrate on the private sleuthing brought an audible cheer from me and I am hoping this is the beginning of a long series of Kate Marshall books. I love them!

Wow! The second Kate Marshall case did not disappoint!

While Kate and her 16 year old son Jake are diving at the Shadow Sands reservoir, they come across a dead body under the water. The police are quick to label it a tragic accident, but Kate wonders how the victim, who was a strong swimmer, could have drowned.

Kate and her assistant Tristan investigate and find a collection of mysterious disappearances around the Shadow Sands area over many years. When an acquaintance of Tristan goes missing in the area, the two race against time to discover the truth and find the missing girl.

What is going on and who is involved? The rich and controversial family the Bakers, who own the local land? The police? Everyone is under suspicion in the pursuit of the truth.

I absolutely loved this second entry to the Kate Marshall series. The story alone is a thrilling and suspenseful tale that will keep you guessing until the end. As part of the series it is wonderful to hear more about the lives of Kate and Tristan and their families. The two make a great team and I look forward to their future adventures. Can't wait for the next entry to the series!

Recommend this book completely, fantastic plot, brilliant characters and just a really satisfying reading experience.

Another great read! I’ve loved all of Roberts books and this one didn’t disappoint! I’m enjoying the relationship between Kate and Tristan lots and they’ve really come together in this book, a great team and a fascinating story. Looking forward to book number 3
