This book introduced me to former police detective Kate Marshall and I wish that I had read the previous novel so that I understood a little more of her history. Following on from the imprisonment of her former husband, the notorious Nine Elms serial killer, Kate is now a university lecturer and part time private investigator.

The story starts with Kate and her teenage son scuba diving in a reservoir where they discover the badly damaged body of a young man. Because Kate does not believe the police announcement that the death is an accidental death ( the young man being an aspiring Olympic swimmer ) she and her graduate student Tristan embark on an investigation and discover that there are several people who have been reported missing. Some of the bodies have been found in the same reservoir . Whilst they are investigating ,a fellow academic, a Professor at the university where Kate is teaching, goes missing.
Their investigations lead them into danger and takes some surprising turns.

This book is fairly well written and a good page turner but I felt that the ending was disappointing and somewhat hurried.

Another great book from Robert Bryndza. I loved diving (pun intended) back in to Kate & Tristan's lives with another gripping read. Bryndza manages to grab you from the first chapter & keeps the interest throughout with short, punchy chapters following all the different characters involved. His characters are brilliantly written, with the right amount of issues to make them real & engaging. I thought he did particularly well portraying the victim (I won't say more - spoilers).

If you've read Nine Elms you'll know what you're in for, if you haven't, why not? Get it & then this!

The second book in the Kate Marshall series revisits Kate and her son who are have rebuilt their relationship following her recovery from addiction. Kate, who used to be a police officer, solved the case of a serial killer in book 1 - Nine Elms. Although there are elements of her history included in the book, it can easily be read as a stand alone. Kate is now working at a university, and is learning to scuba dive with her son, on a practice dive they find a dead body trapped underwater. The boys mother does not believe it was an accidental drowning and knowing Kate’s history in police work asks her to investigate. Feeling a connection to the case Kate reluctantly returns to detective work with her assistant Tristan. I really enjoyed the development of Kate and Tristan’s relationship in this sequel. Both characters have demons that they are fighting and I really engaged with them as a team. When a lecturer at the university goes missing near the local reservoir, the coincidence seems too much and both Kate and Tristan are pulled into a murky world of police corruption, family secrets and one killers efforts to keep his deadly obsession from the world. I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoyed Nine Elms, and fans of a police procedural with a clever plot lines, intrigue, characters with depth and twists that you won’t see coming.

Thank you to Robert Bryndza, the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in return for an honest review.

Shadow sands by Robert Byrnza
5stars
A great start to a new series. I liked Kate in the book Nine Elms and it was good to have her in the lead role albeit from a ‘stretching the imagination’ link into a crime.

Reasonably well paced and the characters well developed. Some nice foundations laid down for future books that I will definitely look out for.

An enjoyable third book featuring former policewoman Kate Marshall.

Having read the first two in the series, I was looking forward to reading this one. Kate and her son find a body whilst scuba diving in a reservoir. The police think it’s an open and shut case of accidental death, but Kate doesn’t agree, and starts to investigate.

The book has all the elements of a good detective story, and Kate and her colleague have to slog through the numerous facts to try to find the truth, which as always eludes us until just before the end. A late night page turner in the procedural vein. Fans of Deaver’s Lincoln Rhyme, or David Baldacci will enjoy this one.

Looking forward to more of these,

My thoughts about this brilliantly written gripping serial killer thriller, follow up to the fantastic Nine Elms, was brilliant. Author Robert Bryndza's follow up Shadow Sands, is a outstanding mystery thriller. What I loved about the story, was when Kate Marshall and Tristan Harper investigate,a body is found of a young man, floating in the Shadow Sands, was just fantastic, finding out the mystery behind who was behind it, was just nail biting. what an ending, I did not see it coming. Talented Author Robert Bryndza, who has written many brilliant thrillers in the past, has created a series that doesn't disappoint. The characters are just fantastic, be it Kate or Tristan, there chemistry is truly brilliant. Author Robert not only writes a fantastic gripping story, but he takes Shadow Sands to a another level, with full of suspense and mystery. A brilliantly well crafted, murder mystery thriller, that will take you on a ride. I would like to say thank you to author Robert Bryndza Publishers Books Sphere and Little Brown and Netgalley, for giving me a chance to read and review, this outstanding thriller. Highly recommended. 💥💥💥💥💥⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is my first book by Robert Bryndza and it was wonderful! Fast paced, creepy, mysterious, great characters and intriguing storyline. Kate Marshall and her research assistant, Tristan Harper make a great duo! Kate, an ex police officer, professor of criminology and part time private investigator with past demons she is trying to keep under control. I enjoyed the writing style of this story which flowed along nicely and kept you guessing until the end! I devoured this book in two days and it's been a while since I was intrigued and connected with the characters. For followers of Robert Bryndza will enjoy this novel, I certainly did!

I would recommend this book and have given a 5-star rating.

I WOULD LIKE TO THANK NETGALLEY FOR THE OPPORTUNITY OF READING AN ADVANCED COPY OF THIS BOOK

I loved the Erika Foster novels, and now what a great series the Kate Marshall books are turning out to be. Both Kate and her sidekick Tristan are sympathetically written and believable, especially Kate with her flaws. The plot is fast paced, so much so I resented having to put it down. I hope there are going to be more books about this fascinating couple as it looks as if they are going to blossom into private detectives. I really recommend Shadow Sands and a big thank you to NetGalley and LittleBrown for an advance copy and not making me wait!

I have read all of Robert Bryndza’s books and enjoyed them. I felt that Shadow Sands lacked the
usual suspense that we are used to from his books. Looking at other reviews, I can see I am in the minority. Having said that, it’s a good story and definitely worth reading.

After reading the first book in the series, Nine Elms, I knew I had to read this straight away and it didn't disappoint. A fast paced, thrilling read, that captures you from the first few lines.

Rob Bryndza is clever, he really packs a punch with the first chapter as you witness a murder that kicks off the central plot. As a reader, you want justice to be served. Couple that with the main characters, Kate and Tristan, a likeable duo who we get to learn even more about in this book. Bryndza has created characters who are complex but relatable.

The pool of possible subjects was smaller but I actually liked this, I knew all would become clear so I was able to focus on the machinations of the crime and the character development.

The shifting perspective from Kate and the victim kept things moving swiftly.

No spoilers, but the victim was a great character and her unfolding experience was horrible as it is a fear many people hold. But she a resilient woman and I loved her parts of the book.

All in all, this was a great thriller with a female lead character who is strong but flawed, a great plot and fast-paced action.

OMG! PHENOMENAL.!
RB has completely smashed it with this new book. I absolutely loved it, it was completely unputdownable. What a brilliant, clever, surprising plot, it's outstanding. The story completely blew me away. I've been holding my breath with every page and now I can breathe. I love Kate Marshall and her assistant Tristan, they make a wonderful crime solving duo. It was great to read about Peter the Nine Elms Cannibal again. I've been waiting to read RB's new book with bated breath. This book will not disappoint. I want to say a huge THANK YOU to NetGally and the publishers for allowing me to read this awesome book before publication. This will definitely be a bestseller. I can't say how much I love RB and his writing, he's brilliant. I wish I could live in RB's head so I could find out what happens in the next book. Huge Congratulations to RB and I just want to say the details about Shadow Sands and the reservoir made me want to be there when Kate and Jake were diving to explore the underwater village. Trust me nobody will want to stop reading this book once they start.

I really enjoy Robert Bryndza’s books and the Kate Marshall series is no exception. They’re gritty and well thought out. ‘Shadow Sands’ comes with a great plot and is packed with interesting characters. At times I did find it slow, but I think this is because Kate isn’t a police officer and therefore isn’t privy to everything. However, I really enjoy the added aspect of Kate’s personal life and her link to a killer. This is a really strong series and I’m looking forward to finding out what comes next.

Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book.

I haven’t read one of Robert’s books in a while and this one didn’t disappoint. A great fast paced serial killer thriller.

When Kate Marshall finds the bloated body of a young man floating in the Shadow Sands reservoir, the authorities label it a tragic accident.

But the details don't add up: why was the victim there, in the middle of the night? If he was such a strong swimmer, how did he drown?

Kate is certain there is more to this case than meets the eye. As she and her research assistant Tristan Harper dig deeper, they discover a bloody trail that points towards an active serial killer hiding in plain sight. People have been silently disappearing for years, and when another woman is taken, Kate and Tristan have a matter of days to save her from meeting the same fate.

I never repeat the blurb. My dad would have loved this sequel to "Nine Elms" but it was not meant to be. Nevertheless, I also loved it and devoured it in just a day. Great to catch up with the characters. Excellent plot. What more can I say?

Shadow Sands is the second book in the Kate Marshall series. When Kate finds the body of Simon Kendal floating in the local reservoir, the police mark it down as a tragic accident but things just don’t add up so Kate and her assistant Tristan decide to carry out their own investigation. This leads then to a serial killer and when another victim disappears they need to act fast.

I loved this and found it impossible to put down. I felt Kate’s character was explored in greater depth and the plot flowed well. It’s brilliantly written, fast paced and a joy to read. Thank you to NetGalley, Little, Brown Book Group and the author for the chance to review.
