Marshmallow Marmaduke Vanilla-Bean Sugar-Pie Fluffington Fitz-Noodle (Pie for short) is back and he’s fluffier and prouder than ever! He’s landed a role as the villain’s cat in a big Hollywood film, and he’s determined to enjoy everything stardom has to offer, with best friend Amelia by his side. But Pie is dazzled when he’s introduced to stylish influencer Madison, who’s keen to show him off all over town and couldn’t seem to care less about including Amelia – Pie loves the star treatment, but not the feeling that leaving Amelia out brings…

I adore Pie’s voice – he’s the perfect combination of self-centred and loving that any cat owner will recognise. His relationship with Amelia is one of the most important things in his life, perhaps even more so than Cod Crispies, but he’s still learning how to show her that, and it means this is a new angle to look at kindness and love. How to handle fake friends is a common theme in books for this age range, but this feels very fresh because the scenarios are so unusual – I loved the gentle sniping at the shallowness of celebrity! These are such lovely books, full of humour and pizazz, but also full of heart. They’re guaranteed to make you feel as warm and fuzzy as a cuddle with Pie would in real life.

I also love the art so much! As with the previous books there’s something on every page to look at, and I want to blow up so many of the illustrations to put on my walls – from Pie snuggled up in a big pile of cushions to the wonderful image of what happens when you blow-dry someone so floofy (as he describes it, it’s SPECTACULAR)! My very favourites are always the cuddles between Pie and Amelia, which look utterly perfect and cosy. His face is so expressive (and so is his tail!) – and I’m pretty sure he’s fluffier than ever.

This series is one of my all-time favourite depictions of a cat, and this is the best yet. If you have a little cat-lover, you should buy them all three right now (and pre-order book 4, which should be coming soon) – no excuses! Five out of five cats!
