This is a good book for beginners, who would like to learn how to draw figures.

It’s got step by step drawing techniques and it also shows how to use an art mannequin for different poses.

People who are starting out and are in the early to mid stages of learning how to draw detailed figures in various poses and with different expressions can greatly benefit from this book.

I would recommend this book because it’s quite comprehensive and I like the step by step way it teaches how to draw.

A very helpful book for drawing figures
"The Art of Figure Drawing for Beginners. Learn to use basic shapes and art mannequins to draw faces and figures" was created by Gecko Keck and published by Quarto Publishing Group – Walter Foster. Keck states that "one of the wishes most commonly expressed by students who take his course is to be good at drawing people. More advanced artists also frequently ask for tips on how to improve the style of their figures". This is why his book "aims to give lots of helpful hints and tips about progressing down this path and learning to draw people and animals. Keck covers topic such as "The Building Blocks of the Human Body", "Poses and Movements", "Insights into Anatomy", "Drawing the Details" (such as Head and Face, Hands and Feet, Drawing Methods, ...), or "Achieving Your Goal Set by Step". The author also included a chapter about "Recommended Readings".
The book is presented with great graphics, sketches, and drawings. I found Keck's approach in using mannequins unique and inspirational. I like it that he uses the mannequins or stick-figures in a step-by-step approach to teach details of a drawing from the beginning to the finished drawing. This excellent book can be highly recommended for beginners and advanced artists no matter what medium they use. There are also "Artist's Tips" throughout the book which are really helpful.
The complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley free of charge. It is necessary to note that the sample provided only covered the first 79 pages of the book (the total is 160 pages). I was under no obligation to offer a positive review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This is an excellent book for anyone wanting to improve their drawing skills. I recently purchased a drawing a mannequin. This book helped me understand how to use the mannequin.
This book is filled with exercises on shading, foreshortening, drawing all the parts of the body, figures in motion, and much more.

The section on anatomy and muscles was very helpful. There is even a section on drawing clothing.

I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in drawing.

I received this book from NetGalley.

After looking through this book, I realised that I have been neglecting a very useful tool in my artist's toolbox and that is my little mannequin. I like how this wooden figure is used to show certain poses that can help you draw your humans more realistically.

Certainly a great help for the beginner and the artist who wants to improve as people can be the most difficult to draw accurately.

Thank you Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group Walter Foster for this ARC. This is my honest opinion.

Walter Foster has been known to offer many concise works when it comes to art and this book is no exception. Don’t let the books page count or concise approach fool you as there is much to glean from within these pages. It offers practical advice concerning proportions / perspective and anatomy among many other helpful topics that will help someone get on their feet (no pun intended) with figure drawing.

One of the books best features is that the author utilizes a wooden mannequin in order to teach about figure drawing something many have seen but maybe were unsure of how to use. I happen to own a mannequin myself and have never used it but after looking over these pages I have a better appreciation of its practicability and look forward to putting it to use. The author really does a great job of conveying the usage of the mannequin in order to build characters from scratch when a model is not available something very valuable especially if you don’t have a model on hand.

This book as stated is a beginner book and is meant to start you on your artistic journey. With much practice of the exercises included within these pages one can walk away with some valuable mileage. So if you would like to begin your journey into figure drawing I would highly recommend this book as a great place to start.

This is a good beginner book for anyone wanting to learn how to draw figures. Teaching beginners how to use a mannequin is a great idea and will allow them to put it in any pose and use the skills learnt to produce a drawing. The instructions are clear, uncluttered and easy to understand and a good variety of different studies are used. It would also be a good reference book for artists with a bit of experience wanting to expand their skills in this area. Overall a good basic manual.

A great book for beginners who find drawing figures difficult. There are simple, step-by-step instructions that are easy to follow, and the author shows how to get the proportions right. The layout is clear and uncluttered, and there are useful tips all the way through. Highly recommend.

This book is for beginners, and in the ARC I got, there were really only the total basics covered. It could give an OK overview, but its nothing you could not get free with a couple of youtube videos. I find step-by-step tutorials sometimes harmful for beginner artists, because so much can be missing between these steps.
This would maybe justify 2-3 stars, if there weren't some mistakes in the drawings. There is a drawing of a women with very strange torso shading, and the author forgot to add the hand to some other pictures. This seems very lazy, and should not happen in a teaching book.

The Art of Figure Drawing for Beginners by Gecko Keck break down how to draw different aspects of the human body. This book showcases the different aspects of figure drawing from gestures and shadows to each individual body part and eventually clothing.

As someone who has figure drawn for the last 7 years, this book is extremely helpful for teaching beginners how to break down the basic shapes of the human body. I highly recommend this book for beginners as well as professionals who want to pick up more tricks.

I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book seems good to me for someone who is starting with the basics of drawing, I found it somewhat simple to be honest, it could have been better, perhaps explain more about certain areas, but as I said it is for those who are just starting.
