It's the characterisation which really makes this. After a young girl is found murdered, the impact on a community is long lasting. As the anniversary of her death approaches, questions are asked about what happened that night and who really was to blame - did an innocent man serve time for a crime he didn't commit?

Heart breaking and thought provoking, I thoroughly enjoyed this thriller.

Loved this book, another classic by Claire Allan, kept guessing whilst building up the tension throughout. Great writer of dark fiction

A tragic story told in a gripping way. A good page-turner that had me guessing right to the end. Even now, I'm wondering what will come of the characters after the last page. I don't know how you'd rebuild your life after all that, but I'd love to read about it!
Sequel time, Claire?

A good read that kept you guessing right up until the final pages ! When you thought you’d worked it out another twist came and the storyline went in another direction.

This was easy to read with some good twists/red herrings although I wasn't really convinced by a few of the characters and their motives, and the ending wasn't great as the reveal of who really killed Kelly was a bit of a let down.
But I enjoyed uncovering the plot and quite liked the lead Ingrid, although she questioned herself a lot and made some really stupid decisions.
Nothing ground breaking but an easy read, if not that thrilling.

Ask No Questions by Claire Allan was a great book. Kelly was murdered 25 years ago in Derry. Fast forward to present day and we meet Ingrid, a journalist who is writing a piece marking the anniversary of the murder and the accused Jamesy wants his name cleared. Can Ingrid help him overturn his conviction? Many twists and turns throughout. A fab read.

I started this on the day of Halloween which was apt. A dark read starting with the anniversary of a murdered child. Ingrid, a journalist wants to dig deeper as she finds the suspect denies the murder. A twisty tale leads to unsavoury people who don't want her to dig any further. A really good thriller. Fast paced and an 'I didn't see that coming' ending'.

This was the first book that I have read by Claire Allan. I really enjoyed her writing style. This was a decent thriller for me and I enjoyed reading it around the start of the Halloween season. The only thing that I got bored with was just all the journalism talk. I could’ve done without all of that. Otherwise I get this three stars. I also loved the setting in Ireland.

📖BOOK REVIEW📖
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

⏩for synopsis

So today is our turn on the #asknoquestions #booktour and as you can see I enjoyed this book during the sunny weather hence the sunny picture on a miserable day 🙃

#claireallan has been on my radar for a long time but I’m ashamed to say this is the first book I’ve read of hers but it definitely won’t be the last!

This is a great little book containing a twisty tale about a young girls murder on Halloween night. I found it really easy to read; I enjoyed the split narration and occasional dips back in time. I found the book to be very pacy and was definitely one of those just one more chapters before bed kinda reads. The author really kept me on my toes - never quite letting me guess who had done it as she kept twisting and turning the story in new directions.

I thought the author really toyed with the characters throughout; one minuet you’d like them, the next you’d be back to being suspicious of them and this made for such a great read!

Overall, I found this book a great escapist read and throughly enjoyed it. It did exactly what it set out to do and I recommend to anyone who loves a good murder mystery!

With thanks to #elliepilcher and #avonbooks for inviting us to be part of this book tour!

Another great edge of your seat psychological thriller from Claire Allan. It’s coming up on the 25th anniversary of the brutal murder of 8 year old Kelly Doherty and Journalist Ingrid Devlin is writing up a story. She wants to get to the bottom of what happened that Halloween night in Derry but as she delves into it searching for the truth, the more she is getting someone’s back up, someone doesn’t want her covering this story or unearthing the truth. The Doherty family themselves appear to be keeping secrets but Ingrid's tenacity prevails despite the peril she maybe putting herself in!

Its hard to say too much for fear of ruining it for others but suffice to say with Halloween around the corner, this is definitely one to add to your list, once you turn that first page, you’re hooked, its fast paced and an unpredictable rollercoaster ride with several twists and turns along the way and when you think you may have it figured out…. BOOM….. highly recommend

I just finished this novel, and I still need to comprehend everything that's been going on in the story, but I couldn't resist and I had to write my review right away, while the story is still fresh in my mind.

Last year I read (and enjoyed) Allan's novel The Liar's Daughter. What I liked the most in that book was the small town atmosphere the author created.

This time, it was the characters.
I applause the writer for creating so interesting and believable characters that made me feel like I do know them, do see them and pay attention to everyone.
Often in books, especially in thrillers/crimes, there are often characters that just show themselves few times and we don't pay attention to them, but in this story everyone was under spotlight for at least some time.
It was similar like watching a tv show, where you do get to see characters and remember them, connect with them on a different level.

As for the story itself, it had a good plot.
It was hard for me to predict where the story would go, and who'd be the bad guy, as I really didn't have anyone to suspect more than others.

The writing style is good. The book is written in first person following Ingrid's POV (who is a reporter, investing the story) and in third person following twins that are side characters of the story.

As a readers who's English is not the first language, I thought that the book is written in Scottish English, but I guess the author is Irish.
Anyway, there were words that were new to me and I was so happy to expanse my vocabulary thanks to this book.

The end was pretty satisfying and I think I would read this book in only 2 days if I had more time to read, bc I finished it in only three sittings (keep in mind that I am a slow reader).

If you're looking for a quick thriller to read, look no further!

One of my favourite authors. This takes you from childhood to adult life and how a murder convict could have been imprisoned wrongly. It’s kept me reading all night and now I need another book to match this! A high 4/5.

Ask No Questions is another winner from Claire Allen and having read this can’t wait for the next!!
Ingrid Devlin is a journalist in her home town, it is coming up to Halloween and she wants to cover a murder that happened to a young girl, Kelly Doherty, twenty years ago. Kelly was eight years old when she went missing whilst out trick or treating with her friends. She was found several days later and the local misfit was given life for the murder. Ingrid starts her anniversary piece and is doubting that the wrong man was convicted but the more she investigates the more she is warned off. Is she on to something and if she is who really was the murderer??
This was a great read and I liked Ingrid’s determination, it was a twisty read and I didn’t get the correct person until very near the end, so bonus point there. Can’t wait for the next.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Avon Books for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book! I loved the characters and was drawn in by the story! A horrific thing happens when Ingrid, Niall and Declan are children and on the anniversary emotions are running high. Someone doesn’t want the truth to be revealed!

What really happened to little Kelly who was found murdered 25 years ago? Journalist Ingrid is determined to find out. This is one of those books which after the initial chapter gets better as it goes along. The thing that really spoilt this story was Ingrid. She was horrible, manipulative and self-serving. It was a bit on the slow side until well over half way when more things happened. I thought it was intriguing enough to continue despite how unpleasant most of the characters were. This is my first book by this author and I liked her engaging style of writing so will definitely try another. A great holiday read!

I am a big fan of Claire Allan so was excited to get this book accepted on netgalley! It follows the anniversary reporting of a child murder in a small town and the fallout from it 25 years on. Ingrid is trying to write a book on the convicted murderer but it all goes horribly wrong. It's easy to read and full of twists, and that ending 😱 Not what I was expecting at all.....totally thought it was all sewn up! If you are a fan of twisty thrillers then this will be right up your street so go buy it ❤
