The first volume took me by surprise with how much I truly enjoyed it, but the plotline and family dynamic was just too good. I'm happy to say that I found Volume 2 to be just as strong as the first. We see more of the plan that Twilight set into motion come to fruition and now we have even more hurdles to overcome, like school work and making friends!

There were so many little wholesome moments mixed in with the ridiculous that I was either smiling constantly or actually laughing out loud. If you haven't had a chance to check out volume one, I really recommend giving it a shot! I know I'll definitely pick up of a physical copy of this when it drops in September.

Shenanigans continue in this second volume!

I continue to enjoy the growing family dynamic within the volume. We get LOTS of Anya in this particular volume, and it fed my soul in the best way possible! I cannot wait to continue on in the series!

I'm not sure I can begin to explain just how entertaining Spy X Family is. The crazy hijinks that Anya, Loid, and Yor get into are just delightful. I talk this series up to people every chance I get and I don't see that changing any time soon. Buy Spy X Family, you will not regret it!

Going Strong

The first volume in this series was very entertaining. Most of that was because the first volume covered the three main characters and the amusing fashion in which their spy family was assembled. The characters were witty, and the narrative was crisp and lively, with some satisfying dry and deadpan asides. This volume is different. All of the characters are in place, and now they are moving forward with their mission. As to that mission, which involves infiltrating a private school and getting close to a person of interest, well, things move very slowly at first.

Happily, after a slow start we hit our stride. The three main characters still don't know each others' secrets, (spy, assassin, telepath), but they are starting to come together as a unit. Much of the humor here is the awkward fashion in which they bond and connect. Each has a different sense of humor, but they mesh very well. As Mom and Dad start to actually think and act like parents the whole new family dynamic is held together with a sly, ironic, and understated touch.

As to the mission, the Eden Academy angle looked like it was going to get old. But the author has put some novel spins on the old private school tropes. Between the satire at the expense of snobby private schools, and the silliness of the family's mission to infiltrate the higher levels of influence represented by the school families, there's a lot of room for parody and humor.

For all that, this still remains a subtle and understated work of humor, and I continue to very much appreciate and enjoy it's dry approach, and its edgy throwaway lines and bits. This series can be surprising, (and sometimes, oddly enough, very touching), and I remain keen to see how everything works out for the phony Forger family.

Hello Gemmies! I have a entertaining new manga review to share with you today. Please note: I received a digital ARC of this book (via NetGalley) from its publisher in exchange for an honest and fair review.

Spy X Family Vol 2 by Tatsuya Endo is the second magna in the Spy X Family Series. This is my first manga series and I love it so much! I never knew I needed to know what would happen if you created a family with an assassin mom, a world class spy dad, and a psychic child. But now I know and I can't stop thinking about them! Like Vol 1, Spy X Family Vol 2 is pure joy from start to finish. I devoured it in one sitting! The cover art is delightful, and keeps the sleek modern feel the series is known for. It is also a perfect compliment to the Vol 1 cover. This time we see Anya aka the psychic child featured on the cover. She is also the main focal character in this portion of the series.

The entire storyline is unique and the characters interaction with each other was great; even darn right funny at times. What makes Spy X Family Vol 2 so great is the fantastic way Tatsuya Endo is able to balance the action, espionage, personal turmoil, and heartwarming family moments seamlessly. No moment ever feels forced. We continue to follow the storyline of Twilight a world class spy who, needs the cover of a family in order to infiltrate an elite school and save the world. We also get the added hilarity and drama with the introduction of Yuri's brother who has a secret of his own and has no idea his sister is "married" or an assassin. I cannot wait to see what events unfold in Vol 3!

The artwork as always is superb and very appealing. I felt the style is well suited to the story and very clean and crisp. This was a nice departure from everything else I am currently reading and wholly unique. I will definitely continue on with the series. Published by VIZ Media, Spy X Family Vol 2 will release on September 1, 2020 and is available for pre-order from all major booksellers. I give Spy X Family Vol 2 5 out of 5 gems. I'm looking forward to reading the next installment in this great series. Happy Reading!

This was such a fun graphic novel! I have yet to read Volume 1, but I was able to fully enjoy Volume 2 without feeling like I was missing out of anything crucial to the story. A family comprised of a contract killer, a spy and their mind reading adopted daughter. I loved it, and will be sure to check out the rest of this collection, as well as anything else by this author that I can find.

A huge thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I greatly appreciate it!

This is still so stinking cute. I love Anya's character design, she is too too adorable!
So in this volume, we see Anya start her scholastic career on a very bad foot, after punching out the son of the man Twilight has been sent to spy on. Also, the family faces their biggest challenge yet when assassin mom's little brother, who has secrets of his own learns she is married and wants to come for a visit.

The humor and action continue in this second volume that does not disappoint.

Loid, agent Twilight, may have blown his "family's" chance of getting into Eden Academy. But their series of elegant saves during the interview process may save them yet! Anya is determined to help Loid complete his secret mission, even if she continues to only make things worse. Yor works to be a better mother, but is slipping in her sister's duties. The three make for more comedic scenes and action. More characters are introduced in this volume, adding to the plot and action. There is still a mystery surrounding the National Unity Party and its goals.

The art is more dynamic in this volume, adding more backgrounds and character interaction with others. The story follows more than just Loid and Anya. Although there was not enough Franky in this volume! The extra story at the end was cute and gave readers a short spy adventure not featured in the primary story.

While the first volume focuses on Twilight and him trying to form his family for the mission, Volume 2 focuses more on Anya and her role in current mission. She needs to become a school scholar (an impossible mission, or so it seems) and navigate the role of student. I thought this volume would annoy me since Anya is the main focus for this and I don't typically like kids in media. I was so wrong.

Anya is so cute and I love the interactions she has with everyone. It's adorable to see Loid (Twilight) being a dad without even realizing it, and seeing Yor's maternal side come out and play. We don't actually see very much of Yor in this, but with the way this ended she's going to have a much bigger role in the third volume.

I read this in one sitting, which isn't a big feat, but I was surprised at how much I did not want this to end. I really wish I already had volume 3 in my hands because I need to continue this and I am ready to know what happens.

Overall, I am addicted to this series and will definitely be picking the next one up as soon as I can.

I received an ARC of this manga in exchange for an honest review.
Loid Forger, a spy who goes by the name Twilight, is on a difficult mission that involves having a child get into a prestigious school to learn more about a high-ranking individual in society. He managed to find a woman willing to play the role of his wife, but she is actually an assassin. Meanwhile, he adopted a child who is secretly a telepath thanks to some experiments she was put through. Will Loid be able to fulfill his mission with this strange family, especially after his outburst at the school’s interview? He thought getting a fake family and enrolling his “daughter” into the school would be the hard part; the next steps might prove to be even more difficult!
This manga is quickly becoming one of my favorites! I love all three of the main characters; plus, there’s a new character introduced in this volume who might end up being my favorite character! I don’t often laugh out loud at books, but this manga has caused me to do so on numerous occasions! Loid’s stress over this mission plus his disguises are very entertaining, but nothing beats Anya’s reactions to the things she hears as a telepath. Like I said in my review of volume 1, her reactions are hilarious and I love the fact that she tries to assist both of her parents with their work. Yor, the woman playing the role of wife and mother, is also amusing as she’s usually sweet and kind, but occasionally snaps and acts like the killer she is. I really enjoy following this “family” and their shenanigans and can’t wait for the next volume! (Make sure to read the extra content at the end; it’s definitely worth the read!)

I love this manga so, so much!!

SpyXFamily is about a spy, assassin, and telepathic orphan who have to pretend to be a family for the spy's mission. The spy (father) and assassin (mother) still don't know the truth about each other, and the orphan girl does, since she can read minds, but doesn't care because she just wants a family.

And they really do become the cutest, most adorable family! The hijinks continue in this volume and I laugh out loud as misunderstandings end up working out in the end. Found families are my favorite, and this family is one of the funniest, craziest, and loving families in manga.

Excited for the next volume!

Thank you Netgalley for gifting me this ebook manga in exchange for an honest review.
