Entertaining collection of short stories that give you a taste of the series they are from. Have added some to my list from the stories I enjoyed.

This was an interesting selection of authors with a sample of stories from each author and then a short biography on each author and their website url to find them. Some of the stories were very better than others but mainly a matter of taste I think. There were a variety and great for short reading periods.

I’m going to start by admitting that I didn’t finish this whole book. I got about halfway through and had to give up. I hate not finishing books, especially when I’m supposed to be reviewing them, but I just couldn’t keep going with this one.

I found that a lot of the stories were awkward to read. The writing felt very forced at times, and a lot of the dialogue was unrealistic and generally clumsy. Some stories were better than others when it comes to the writing so I won’t say they were all bad. I liked Treasures in Heaven by Sarah Biglow.

Maybe I might have enjoyed these short stories more if I was familiar with the series that they were based on. The authors sometimes mentioned things that happened in other stories from their series that made it a bit confusing for those of us who haven’t read them. One story in particular mentions a kidnapping a couple of times that sounds like it was quite a traumatic experience for the character, but it’s glossed over like it’s nothing. I can only assume this is from a different story in the series, but would have liked a bit more context when it was mentioned.

Why did I give it the star rating I did?

It doesn’t happen very often, but when I don’t finish a book I tend to give it one star. This is normally because it takes a lot for me not to finish a book. I have to really not be enjoying it to the point that I dread picking it up.

That’s sort of what it was like for Mystery Follows Her, but I wasn’t completely dreading reading it. I’d just find myself avoiding it, doing other things instead of reading, but I didn’t like that either. I like reading, and if a books make me actively not want to read then there’s something wrong.

But I gave this book two stars instead of just one, because one of the reasons I wasn’t enjoying it was more to do with my own opinion than anything else. I love a cosy mystery, but I’m more specific than I realised about what I look for in one. I want a small town murder. Think Midsomer Murders: a little town where someone gets murdered at the village fete after the jam making competition. These stories weren’t that. At all. In fact, of the few that I read, there were no murders whatsoever. Just small crimes like theft and muggings.

Now, I realise I shouldn’t be complaining about a lack of murder. But if you’ve read this blog at all then you’ll know I love a murder-mystery. They’re my favourite kind of books. And that’s what I look for in a cosy mystery. This book didn’t give me that so I didn’t enjoy it. But I’m also aware that other people would be fine with no murder and might enjoy the mysteries of the smaller crimes. So I added an extra star to my rating.

If I was to recommend any stories from this collection they would be Treasures in Heaven by Sarah Biglow and Closed Out by Tamara Woods. Other than those I didn’t enjoy the other ones I managed to read.

A highly enjoyable collection of short stories that made wish to read some of the series.
Not all stories are at the same level but they're all entertaining.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

This is an enjoyable collection of short cosies.
Generally with an anthology, there's unevenness in quality and appeal of the contents. Here, however, we have a well-matched array of writing. Every story is absorbing and interesting. Packing a cosy mystery into a small space isn't easy as this deceptively simple-appearing genre has certain demands that all need to be fulfilled. A cosy is a complicated thing! The authors all succeed in creating empathetic protagonists, unlikeable victims on the whole, red herrings and a satisfying denouement.
The anthology is made all the more rich by the very different heroines and heroes we encounter, the diversity of setting and atmosphere and the individual writing styles that reflect the culture and personality of each author.
This book is not only entertaining, it's also a nice introduction to authors you may never have come across before. It's always great to discover another talented writer.

This was just fantastic. I really enjoyed this mystery collection! I've been on a real true crime/thriller kick lately and this was a fun way to continue on that train. A collection of works from nine authors, I found each one to be unique and memorable as each story weaved its way to conclusion.
One thing I really appreciate about anthologies is the ability to get a snippet of multiple authors and gauge their writing style to your liking. You're able to decide if this is an author you'll want to look into in the future, and I love doing that. Writing style is a big deal for me - it can either make or break a reading experience, in my world - and I loved having the opportunity to get to know these authors' works and see how they carry out their craft.

Mystery Follows Her is an Anthology by eight Authors. I highly recommend the short stories written by Ellen Jacobson, Adriana Licio, and Angela K. Ryan—three authors that I am familiar with and enjoyed reading these short stories in their cozy mystery series.

The other five authors were unfamiliar to me, and their writing styles did not interest me.

I honestly reviewed a digital copy provided by NetGalley and Books Go Social. Thank you.

I received this ARC via Netgalley and BooksGoSocial, in return for an honest review. This is a short story anthology by nine cozy mystery writers. The great thing about anthologies is that they provide a great introduction to authors you might not otherwise encounter. Each short story is followed by information about the author and references to the series that the short story supports. The stories are placed around the world and with a variety of lead characters. Some offer very unique twists. Probably the most memorable to me was Sarah Biglow’s ‘Treasures in Heaven’, featuring a US military chaplain as she ends her tour in the Middle East. Since I’m also a female veteran, it was refreshing to read a story from that perspective even if I quibbled with some of the officer to enlisted interactions.
In most cases, the authors have done well at navigating the tricky short story format while still providing enough detail and context to move the stories forward. As with any anthology, you’ll find some stories more interesting than others. Any cozy mystery fan should find several authors to enjoy in their longer books.

Very solid and enjoyable collection of short cozy mystery stories; each story was just enough to tantalise me into wanting to read more if each series and I especially enjoyed the ones from overseas. I found quite a few authors I’ll be reading more of, which is exactly what this collection was suppose to inspire me to do!

An anthology of nine cozy mystery writers, which offers introduction to the different writing styles of these authors. As with most anthologies one loves some whilst other are not so interesting - in this case I found them all enjoyable and I would certainly follow up on further books by them.
The writers are from various countries and each have their different writing style, not being a great fan if cozy mysteries, I found that I really enjoyed everyone of these stories and will look for more.

A Selection Box Of Sleuthing....
A selection box of sleuthing from a select group of authors. A mixed bag to dip in and out of at whim. A fun and satisfying mix of tales, a wealth of amateur sleuthing. Enjoyable reading with hopefully a little something for all tastes.

This book is a collection of nine short stories by a variety of mystery writers and covers a whole multitude of scenarios. The stories span across the globe, dangerous city streets, and quaint villages.

This compelling set of cozy mysteries provides interesting storylines that hold the reader's attention. The characters are well described and easy to relate to. I enjoyed reading this fine collection of stories as they were entertaining and at times hilarious.

The combination of expectancy, intrigue, and at times comedy leads the reader to the solution of the crime.

If u love cozy mysteries, this will be a good addition to your collection.

Each author seems to have mastered the very difficult art of the short story mystery! This was a good chance for me to read new authors that I want to follow and catch a short tale by authors I am familiar with while enjoying these cozies. No quick review of the stories because they already are short.
I requested and received a free ebook copy from BooksGoSocial via NetGalley. Thank you!

Usually I do not like to read short stories or novellas. they never seem complete to me. The only time they work is when you are already familiar with the characters and setting. So several of these stories had me floundering because I felt like I was playing catch up and then it was over. Some of the stories did spark my interest in looking up other books by the authors. Okay but with reservations

I generally enjoy cozy mysteries but I find it’s a hard genre to do justice to as a short story. Either the author assumes that you’ve read the series and the story doesn’t work as a stand alone tale, or the author has to spend too much time setting up the characters and location. But I did like most of these stories and found a few authors with series that I want to read.
