I am quite a fan of Historical fiction, so this books description and cover immediately caught my interest.
This was a unique story that is full of detail and intriguing characters. I found myself disliking the main female lead in this book, but Mick and his story as it begins to unfold is quite endearing.
The book is written well and the storyline flows nicely throughout.

I received a copy of this book to review from Netgalley. Thank you for the opportunity.
An interesting read with a wide range of characters. The writing is good and engaging.
I would have liked more world building to really evoke the spirit of the time as I felt this was lacking. I also thought there should be a greater emphasis on building of relationships. Both emotionally and physically as I felt that the book was over focused on one thing which did the characters a disservice as I wanted to read more about their emotions and character.
On the whole, a good book.

I read a lot of historical fiction, and it's rare to come across a stunner like this one. Especially if you are looking for something that involves gay characters. I'm trying to pinpoint what I loved about this book - I think the meaty plot and wonderful characterizations really did it for me. It was incredibly compelling,

The Boy I Love is a heartbreaking story and the first book in a trilogy written by Marion Husband. Paul has returned from the First World War a traumatised hero, and offers to marry his dead brother’s pregnant fiancé despite him being gay. He pays regular visits to his lover Adam, and also reconnects with a local butcher he served with in the army.
The novel highlights the difficulties the war damaged men have in returning to normal life, and the unsympathetic reactions they receive to their terrible injuries. Set in a time when homosexuality was illegal, the men have to hide their true selves, knowing they can never form open relationships with the people they love.
This is an unflinching account of life after war and the hardships people faced when trying to live by society’s rules. I look forward to reading the rest of the story.

Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. I loved this book based during post WWII and depicted how difficult life was back then. Great story line and great characters.

It’s an interesting take on love between men after the Great War. There were moments of annoyance where I found myself greatly disliking the female main character. But actually my favourite aspect of the novel was Micks story, who is a secondary character. He seemed the most believable character who also strikes compassion within the reader. Nice done!
