I love cats and I’m feeling sorry for the witch 🧙🏼‍♀️

Just perfect for Halloween, this is a darker read for those young listeners who want something creepy and very different.

A witch lives alone and is miserable, since everyone avoids her. But in a way, she has a heart of gold. Stray cats find a type of home around her house...and she tolerates them mostly thanks to the things they bring her so she can do her spells. When a witch friend very unexpectedly wants to visit but has a cat allergy, the witch realizes that this might just be her problem too.

I'm always on the look-out for picture books that stick out. And this one definitely does that. Dark is the word for this tale, inside and out. It starts with the very heavy illustrations and stretches right into the odd tale. Every page is dark and dreary...much like the witch herself. The illustrations give off a creepy vibe without really ever crossing any lines. But still, the image of her house surrounded by many, many cats, and even the image of her horribly, miserable self, does anything but awake warm fuzzy feelings. Sensitive readers might not like this one, since it does send off a strange vibe.

The tale itself is...well, strange. But that doesn't mean it's badly written either. The witch is a witch, a very lonely witch. This brings a sense of sadness which mixes in with her odd quirks and strangeness. But I don't think it really misses any marks because witches might just be that way. I did enjoy it and believe that there are young listeners out there, who will be thrilled. It just won't be every listener's thing. My only real critique on this one is the ending. It doesn't wrap up much, but leaves a lot hanging as if the story were dropped off before the end hit.

Is it worth a read? That really depends on your listeners, but for Halloween, this definitely earns at least a consideration. I'm giving it a 3.5-stars (mostly because of the ending) and rounding up to 4. I received a complimentary copy through Netgalley.

This book left me saying “what?” If you read Lizard Brew by the same author then you already know the story. Camilla is a witch and she has cats. Her friend wants to come visit for Halloween but can't because of allergies. That is where the story ends. To start off with, the book was more representative of a picture book, and I quite enjoyed it even if it was repetitive to the sequel. But it was less wordy and broke up better with it’s illustrations. But it ends in the middle of the story. It ends by describing the friend's allergy problem. In other words it doesn’t end. It’s just all sorts of odd and the best thing is the illustrations which are gorgeous.

I loved the gorgeous illustrations. It's a good book for older kids who like witches and cats.

I received an ARC from the publisher and NetGalley for an honest review.

I found this book very strange and it felt as if it ended midway through the story.
Was a bit creepy for a children's book too,if I am completely honest and I know for a fact my 4 year old wouldn't enjoy it.
The illustrations were interesting but they weren't very colourful so again I don't think would keep a younger child's attention.
Sorry, another book not for me.

I thought this was a bit of a strange book for children. I didn't particularly enjoy it. I felt it was very short and not much to the story. I'm not sure the children that read to me would like it very much either

This one is weird af.

I didn't want to use words like that but yes, also I would not read this with an underage kid. Because it will bring nightmares and gross nose dripping images ☺️

The story feels incomplete.

The witch seems like an old lady living alone miserable and sick.

And then there's the cats which stay outside her house, way too many for anyone's comfort. And people avoid her at all costs.

Yes, that's it.

Like the illustrations though.

Totally Halloweenie!

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC.

It was a short and simple story with a deeper meaning. It shows what true love is. It has really good illustrations and unique narration but I expected more from it.

The illustrations are okay, nothing impressive but it´s still nice to look at. Anyway, the book does not feel like a completed story, but only as a very short introduction without a plot... without a point.

This book was not quite what I was expecting and was probably as surprised as my daughter was when we read it. I found the story not quite flowing as I would have liked, and did have an abrupt ending as others have stated. That said, yes, some of the images were "gross" and "yucky" as my daughter put it, but they really are beautiful illustrations. It would be a wonderful book for around Halloween and I do plan on reading the other book by this author as I enjoyed this particular witch and the books look. "Cat's Fur" is also a simple way to teach about allergies. Would I recommend this for a child under 5? Probably not. I don't know how my younger child will feel about this one as even my 5 year old said the images were a bit scary in places. (Mommy liked them though) Also, as I said earlier, the flow of the story could have been better. I thought I had skipped a page in the middle, but it was that the transition threw me off, even though it was there. If you like darker illustrations, Halloween themes and witches, this is a nice choice.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for allowing me and my child this electronic version to read in exchange for my honest review.

Cat's Fur is a book about a witch who tolerates the stray cats that are homeless near her house in exchange for the things they bring her for her spells. The cats get Hexed and move into her house. She receives a letter from her friend who states she can't come to stay this halloween because she is allergic to cats and the witch realises that she is allergic to cats too.

This is a quirky book with quirky illustrations that will not appeal to everyone. It would make a fantastic book for halloween. I've rated this book 3 stars as I didn't feel the ending ended very well, it seemed to just end abruptly and I checked afew times that that was the whole book and it was.

I'm afraid I didn't like this one at all. The drawings aren't particularly appealing, and with their muted colours and scary content I don't think they'd be suitable for children of picture book age. The story doesn't really go anywhere, and there isn't really a plot - first a description of the witch's house, then a short bit of action when the cats move in, then a description of the witch's allergies... but nothing happens. We don't see the witch try to do anything about her allergies or interact with the cats, so there's nothing to root for or keep turning the pages for. I thought this might be a funny read, with the witch trying different remedies so she could keep her cats, but instead it's just... strange. The book ends without ever really providing a plot, let alone wrapping it up, so I think it would be a confusing reading experience for a child, since it was for this adult! Add to that the fact that the cats are scarily depicted and the book can't seem to settle between its horror tones and its picture book premise, and this is not one I'd recommend.

The drawings are average, and a little dark for younger readers. Gross in a way that little kids would like.
The story felt incomplete.

This story and its sequel should be combined into one book. With the two separated, it feels like a cash grab.

I have to say this is one of the strangest picture books I have ever read, both in terms of story and illustration. It definitely isn’t for everyone, but those who it’s is for will love it. I was a quirky kid who grew up into a quirky adult, and I wish this book were available when I was little.

This creepy book about a witch and her cat allergies has dark illustrations, which suited me fine. The story was interesting, but the ending didn’t satisfy me. I felt like I was left hanging. I read this via NetGalley, courtesy of the publisher.

I read this book with my daughter and to be honest, she was a bit scared by it. We liked the cats in it, but she was scared of the witch and the darker illustrations where the witch was sick. Some of the illustrations were lovely, but others were too scary for us. The ending of the book was a bit strange and we were unsure what had happened. I then worked out that the witch had allergies to the cats which had caused her to be sick. If this book was made in a lighter way with less scary illustrations, then it would be more suited to younger children. It isn't a book that I will read again with my daughter, but I appreciated getting the chance to read it. It would perhaps be a good book for older children to read at Halloween.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Carmina tries to understand her allergies to the cats that she is so fond of. My little one enjoyed this story and the illustrations are brilliant. Especially helpful as my little one olives cats but our household are all allergic to them. Now she knows why we can't have any.

Cat’s Fur by Bonnie Stanard was a fun little book. I loved all the cats and the witch with all of her potions. At first, I thought the subject of being allergic to all the cats in her life was a little strange for a children’s book. However, I think some kids and even adults will find that relatable. The only odd thing about this story is that I don’t feel like it fully wrapped itself up.

The illustrations by Marlaena Shannon were gorgeous. I especially loved her cats.

I actually read the second book in the series first, and while I did not enjoy that one, I thought this was a nice book and well suited for children.

I received an advanced reader copy from Vestra Lingua Publishing through NetGalley. All opinions are 100% my own.

I would like to thank #NetGalley, the publisher and the author for sending me a copy of #catsFur in exchange for an honest review. This would be a great book for Halloween for younger children although it is quite dark in both the storyline and the illustrations..

This witchy themed Children's Book didn't impress me. A witch has a bunch of cats, but also allergies - a girl can relate! Haha! But the illustrations were sub par and the flow of the story was not artistically done. This would've been cuter had the story rhymed. The story also did not have a clear beginning, middle, and end and in a sense, left with a cliff hanger - what will this witch do now that she's realized she too has allergies to cats? Guys.... cliff hangers in children's picture books?! Let's not.
