Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

Engaging and compelling look at history from another angle (that of the calendar year). Loved that the author chose to deepen at least one point per date, going really in depth and with clear and concise details that bring the history moment alive for the reader. Also really enjoyed the fast-paced prose and the engaging tone, almost like a conversation with a knowledgeable friend.
This is one to save and read in bite-sized pieces, and why not start it with the calendar year and read the historical happenings for each day every day

I received a copy of the book from Netgalley to review. Thank you for the opportunity.
A really detailed, in depth collation of history, written in accessible and well done prose. This is a great book to read and it is nice to pick up and read a selection at will. The information I'd digestible and well presented, clearly written by a lover of history. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.
A great read.

Voices from the Past surpassed all my expectations.
Set out in months of the year, with events from history which occurred on these dates, together with the most fantastic quotable quotes.
The range of historical events and information is mind-blowing, it must have taken years of research to garner all of this information and write it in such an accessible way.
It's very clear that the author loves the subject and is extremely knowledgeable about it. The enthusiasm shines through the narrative.
The format is very well thought out, with historical figures from the Roman Empire through to Modern History. Something for everyone interested in history.
The quotes are inspiring, some humorous others momentous. I read them wishing I had a good enough memory to use them at the opportune moments in conversation. I'm sure we'd all love to remember the 1965 Ronald Regan quote "Government is like a baby. An alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no responsibility at the other".
I found myself relishing what happened in history on my birthday, my wedding anniversary, any date that is significant to me. Totally absorbing and a book to really lose yourself in.
I was lucky enough to review this book, and will definitely be buying a copy for myself.

I really enjoyed this book. It's designed to be picked up and put down, though I must admit I didn't really do the whole 1 quote a day thing which seems to have been how it's designed; some days I was reading several quotes a day, other days I was to t busy to pick it up at all. I think it'd make a good coffee table book, something to pick up and read a bit of whilst you're waiting for your oven timer to go off or your significant other to finish getting ready to go out and you'd be able to learn something even in that short period of time. I would recommend this to others and will be looking out for when it's released in order to gift it to a family member who I'm sure would appreciate it as much as I did. If it were up to me I'd print it hardback with pages that feel thick but not overly papery, more ever so slightly glossy so that it just invites you to pick it up and have a read, and it doesn't dry your fingers out trying to read it as so many books these days do. It'd be good if it had a thin ribbon woven into the spine so that you could save your place also, though let's face it, it's no hardship to reread parts as if you're like me you'll pick up on bits you'd forgotten or missed the first time. All in all a very good book and one I'll be heartedly recommending

I always find books of quotes very dry and can only read a few pages at a time but this approach is brilliant.

By including the background information behind the main quote of the day it will expand your knowledge of history in a fun and entertaining way with just enough to whet your appetite should you want to research any of the historical figures in more detail

Each day also includes a few extra quotes as well as the main article and with it's easy writing style and interesting subject matter I found it completely un-putdownable.

You can either use the book as a source of information for a particular day and delve into it at random or just read it cover to cover - it is the kind of book that once you finish reading it you will find yourself going back to it to re-read favourite articles or to use it to spark other reading projects.

This is a great book for anyone who loves quotes or history and is a veritible mine of information with which to amaze your friends or start a lively debate
