The story of Blaire and Ronan, rival neighbouring business owners who go from enemies to lovers, this is a light easy romance read. Add cupcakes and its hard not to find this book super cute! It provided me with a pleasant few hours of escapism and if thats what you are looking for it will certainly hit the spot.

That said, given Hunting is such a well-loved author - and I read and enjoyed Meet Cute recently - it wasn't a stand-out for me, and one I suspect I will forget as quickly as I read it. The characters were fun and I enjoyed it while I was reading but overall the storyline felt a little light and didn't draw me in sufficiently to make it truly memorable.

This was one of the more disappointing romances I've read this year. Most of the characters were bland and underdeveloped, and the female main character Blaire was just a plain unlikeable quirky girl. Yes, girl and not woman, because for most of the book she behaved like a petulant child. The writing was incredibly cheesy and the book could've done with about 75% less cupcake-related puns.

Blaire and Ronan are business rivals, setting up a cupcakes-and-booze bar and a traditional bar right next to each other. They engage in a fierce competition to win the title of Best Bar, given out by an influential YouTuber. But then a new place opens up across the street from them, part of some chain of bars, and they decide to work together against the Big Bad Corporation. Along the way, Blaire and Ronan discover that they may be more compatible than they thought.

And there is nothing wrong with a basic story like that. Nine times out of ten, you're left with a perfectly enjoyable read, even if you can predict most of what happens about 100 pages before it actually happens. But in this case, with boring characters trapped in a story that drags itself to the finish line, you're left feeling like you've just wasted your time on this book when you could've been doing something - anything - else.

BOOK REVIEW: Kiss My Cupcake by Helena Hunting

3.5 stars

Kiss my Cupcake is a very cute and sweet enemies to friends to lovers storyline that I did very much enjoy but sadly it didn't quite live up to my expectations.

I am a huge fan of Helena Hunting but I am beginning to think that I prefer her more X rated books than these younger chick lit books as I find they often have more depth to them.
Kiss my Cupcake is about Blaire and Ronan. Blaire is a lover of baking who goes against her restaurantanteer family and makes a start on her own by creating a very cute cupcake and cocktail bar. I like Blaire, she is quirky and not ashamed to be exactly who she is. She is also incredibly hardworking and not afraid to stand up for herself but especially for her business.
Ronan is the plaid wearing "bad boy" next door that owns a loud pub with axe throwing and loves to wind up Blaire at any possible opportunity.
I saw the spark between the character's right from the start but sadly it fizzled out a little for me and left me feeling a little disconnected from the characters thoughts and actions.
The storyline was really good and interesting but in my opinion lacked some character depth with both the leads but especially with the side character's who were more like props than actual people.
There was a few problems in the storyline and everything seemed to sort itself out way too quickly and it didn't feel very realisitic.

Overall, it was a very cute easy read which although it didn't wow me, was still funny and enjoyable.

Please note that I was #gifted this e-book from netgalley in exchange for an honest review

Unfortunately, I was slow in downloading this story and it was archived before I had the chance. I'm sure it is a wonderful read.

I have been itching to read a Helena Hunting book for so long and I'm so glad this was my first. Kiss My Cupcake is a witty, laugh out loud enemies to lovers romance which left me with more then a sweet tooth. Blaire and Ronan are shop neighbours. Blaire serves cupcakes and cocktails and Ronan serves beer and wings. They don't exactly meet on the best of terms and definitely rub each other up the wrong way to start but you can feel the chemistry between the them and there is a fine line between hate and love. Great story and can't wait to dive back into another of Helena's books maybe with a cupcake or two

A romance to devour, and savour every moment of...
Blaire comes from a wealthy family of restaurant owners, but she has a dream of running her own business and making it successful on her own terms. Our first encounter with her is as she prepares to open her cupcake and cocktails shop. Things are looking good, but she’d not reckoned on Roman Knight who’s helping out his grandad by renovating the sports bar next door and installing some rather loud attractions.
First meeting between the two is explosive. They’re immediately wound up by each other, which we assume is the start of a great relationship eventually. Everyone around them can see where it’s going, but we have to go through the inevitable misunderstandings and problems first.
While it’s all quite transparent, the main characters are ones you can’t help but fall in love with. They’re far more alike than they want to let on, and the cast of surrounding characters also make for some amusing episodes.
From the off it was pretty obvious where we’d end up but every moment of this journey was great fun, and I’m so pleased that I was able to get my hands on this prior to publication.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

I enjoyed this book. I didn’t want to put it down. It had everything, fun, funny and cute.

All the characters, but my favorite character was Blaire. Her family, seriously they was something else..

This was a love story of Blair and Ronan, the cover, doesn’t really give that impression. Maybe, it could’ve had them on the front.

Kiss My Cupcake is a romance/chicklit. Its funny and light hearted.

The main female character really annoys me in the first half of the story but she gets better in the second half.

The other characters were likable and went well with the story.

If you like humour, light hearted romance then give this a try.
