I actually loved this even more than American Royals. This series is perfect for when you need a distraction or are stressed, and need to keep your mind of things; it's just the right amount of drama combined with page-turning intrigue and twists.

One of my favourite aspects of this one is the focus on Beatrice as the first Queen of America in her own right, and the inherent sexism she faces as a result of this. I despised Robert Standish every moment he appeared in this book: his type of misogyny is the type that creeps up, insidious and sly, and leaves you wondering if you're imagining things or simply over-reacting to thins; being too emotional. I shared Beatrice's frustration and her growing rage. When she finally dismisses Robert and retakes her undermined authority, I cheered.

All of the romances from the first book were either finished or supplanted by new ones, and while I wasn't expecting this, they grew organically throughout the plot. Beatrice and Teddy look like they'll become a royal power couple, and I hope the hints that he intends to support Beatrice, and not try to take power from her as King Consort, prove true in the next book. I'll be very interested in seeing how things develop with Samantha and Marshall -- it was great to see some character growth from Sam.

Lastly: Daphne Deighton. She's a marmite character, either loved or hated, and I love her precisely because she's so easy to hate. Scheming, calculating, never at ease: she's the character who truly makes this series interesting. While she's so close to getting what she wants--Jefferson's heart and eventual marriage--Daphne has caused so much destruction and heartbreak in her wake, and it was fascinating to watch her begin to reap the consequences of what she's sown. She's lost friends and allies, and becoming increasingly isolated. The careful illusions she's wrapped around herself have begun to crack, and I suspect in the next book they'll begin to break down.

I can't WAIT for Book 3!

This book was really enjoyable! I was quite unsure if I was going to enjoy it before I started, because it has been two years since I read the first book. But once I started it was like slipping into your favourite coat. I soaked up every minute of it, and I cannot wait to read the next book!

A decent follow-up to the first book, and just as fast-paced. I feel like this one offered more character development than the last one.

The pairs in the first novel were all wrong: Beatrice and Connor, Samantha and Teddy, Nina and Jefferson, Daphne and Ethan. I didn't ship any of them.

This sequel makes more sense. People are with whom they're best suited.

It pretty much is all romance drama for the major storylines, but there's a quiet theme of finding YOURSELF, and how may not be able to figure out whom you are if you're in a relationship. How taking time apart may not be ideal for romance, but it's the RIGHT thing for yourself. And that respects both the characters AND readers. Well, while one pair is officially on a break at novel's end, we get the feeling they'll get back together soon.

The characters have matured. There's no need for a third novel in this series. (And I think this is just a duology, anyway.) Mission accomplished.

I was a bit frustrated by the relationships changing so completely as the author worked hard in the first book to make sure the reader was fully invested in these characters. Saying that, some of the new pairings actually worked so I will trust Katharine to write whatever she wants!

I adored Majesty, it was such a fitting sequel to American Royals. At the end of American Royals, we were left with a huge twist and Majesty was left to pick up the pieces and deal with the repercussions. These books are so fun, and such a comfort read to me as a huge Princess Diaries fan - anything with a royalty romance trope, I’ll eat up. However, McGee brings such an emotional depth to this trope, with our characters being thrown through massive hoops and having to deal with the emotions and consequences. We have quite a large cast of characters and multiple perspectives, all from different points in life and dealing with different relationships and issues. All in, this duology is a lot of fun, perfect for princess diaries fans, but with an unexpected emotional kick. Loved it!

Granted, I read the first book in Italian, taking advantage of the release in Italy and I say that, no, I was not crazy about the first volume, but I am one who carries on the series, I decided to request the sequel.

Ahimé, I'm sorry to say, it didn't blow me away. This is one of those series that has lots and lots of drama. The classic ya that you devour in no time, that is enjoyable to spend time with and escape a bit.
For me, American Royals series is an enjoyable series to read, but nothing more. A cute story to spend time with, but if I were to tell you about the main characters or anything else, I wouldn't be able to tell you anything else, because they left me with nothing.
Zero involvement, zero emotion.

If there are more books, will I continue? In this case, probably not.

Unfortunately, I think this series continues to have too much petty romance drama for me to enjoy fully.
Drama that can be avoided through communication ultimately becomes frustrating to me if dragged on and on, especially through multiple books.

While the premise is intriguing, I think 90% of the book is focused on each of the character's romantic lives rather than focusing on building them as a fleshed out person. The other 10% just seemed to be scheming and girl on girl hate.

I can see that the author was trying to introduce elements of family ties into this series, but because so much focus was placed on the romantic entanglements, the familial scenes didn't pack the punch that they were intended to.

I would overall recommend this to readers who enjoyed The Princess Diaries mixed with series like Pretty Little Liars, just without the murder.
I would probably recommend this author's other series, The Thousandth Floor, over this one to other readers.

American Royals 2 picks up right where book 1 left off and I felt immediately thrown back into the world and characters I adored the first time around.

I just love the idea behind these books and find the potential "what if" of it so interesting and exciting. I think the author made some really interesting (if unsatisfying) plot choices and I really commend her for that because it would have been tempting to write in a way which would please the readers and give the characters all happy endings. I like that Beatrice's sense of duty was explored so closely and you really got to know her and understand her decision making.

I loved it. Book 3 please?

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book received through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was FUN! A thrilling read but also a light hearted book that picked up from where it left in the previous book. I am usually not one for love triangles, I feel that has been overdone and not many authors have the talent
(or the creativity) to spin it in such a way that can keep you engaged. BUT Katharine McGee sure knows how to do it. It was extremely difficult to decide which characters I wanted to end up together.

I like how we got to see the characters deal with both old and new issues: the fallout of Nina and Jeff's relationship and Daphne's meddling; the Sam, Beatrice and Teddy's love triangle; but, most importantly, Beatrice's new role as queen. However, I did not like at all how many loose ends there were at the end. Unless there is a third book coming soon, I feel like most of the character were not treated fairly, and their stories were not properly wrapped up.

Katharine McGee must be my number one guilty pleasure. I'm waaaaay too old for books like this and The Thousandth Floor series but y'know I just don't care!

This novel follows on from American Royals that ended with the death of Beatrice's father and her about to inherit the American throne. The questions left open were would Beatrice stand up to convention and be with the man she loves? Would Samantha get Teddy? And was it really over between Nina and Jefferson? I know what I thought would happen but interestingly McGee veered from the traditional happy ever after ending and instead went for a bit of realism. First loves are rarely the one we end up with and to find the one we belong with we have to find ourselves first. The author definitely didn't go with the popular choice and for that I applaud her. My only issue was I'd like to have heard more from Nina and Jefferson. Apart from that small thing I loved it. Even if I'm too old!

A good read! A quick, fast paced book that keeps you interested for a majority of the story! I definitely found Bee's storyline to be the most interesting.

A great sequel - I really enjoy this modern take on royalty and an alternative view of america’s power structure, and this world feels quite realistic.

Daphne's 'redemption' leaves room for a 3rd in the series, and I liked Sam finding new romance. Nina needs to have a non-royal boyfriend.

If you’re a fan of The Princess Diaries or Gossip Girl, you’ll love this.

Majesty is a YA romance that follows the struggles and relationships of the fictional American royal family. It’s full of fluffy tropes and sweet moments which made it a great escapist book for me when I read it during downtime at work.

The story relies heavily on miscommunication as a source of conflict, which has to be your thing to enjoy it. I also found the conflicts quite predictable, every time something was set up I had a pretty good idea how and when it would come into play. It didn’t impact my enjoyment of the story, but your mileage may vary!

Just like in Americal Royals, Katharine McGee delivers tightly plotted drama that’s resolved somewhat satisfyingly at the end. I wish the resolution conversations between the different couples would’ve been spaced out, though. Having them all clustered together made them feel a bit repetitive, despite being very different in their contents and outcomes.

Quite possibly my favourite aspect of Majesty was the fake dating! It’s a trope that immediately makes me want to pick up a book and it was handled just as I expected in this story. It’s not a huge part of the plot, mainly because it only concerns one of the multiple couples, but if you like fake dating, it might be a nice addition to the story for you.

As a sequel to American Royals, Majesty goes a little deeper into the loneliness of being royal and the pressure that comes with fulfilling the public expectations. It also acknowledges the racism that people of colour dating someone from the royal family face (sounds familiar, doesn’t it?). I do really wish the book had spent more time on that, I didn’t feel like any of the main characters really acknowledged their white privilege or the inherently racist history of the monarchy. There are a few throwaway lines but considering that Samantha – the “party princess” – is supposedly “bringing the monarchy into the 21st century” by dating a Black man…that didn’t sit right with me. I understand that it’s not the central story but half-heartedly addressing real issues and then not doing much with it and having your characters just sort of carry on is not the way to go.

As with the last book, I enjoyed the different POVs, it’s a great chance to get to know the characters. Additionally, it keeps the pacing up and the story interesting because we get to jump from perspective to perspective. A few new characters are introduced and some familiar faces get more attention (looking at you, Ethan). Overall, to me it helped keep a sense of freshness, new characters to have opinions about and new relationship constellations. However, if you were particularly attached to any pairing of the first book…I have bad news for you: almost all of them are gone and different in the sequel. For me, that made for interesting new conflicts but you might miss your OTP.

I loved seeing Sam and Beatrice develop, there’s a real sense of coming-of-age for both of them. They struggle with knowing who they are or who they want to be and I was happy to see that the story allowed them the space to start figuring it out. Beatrice definitely grew on me more in this book as we got to know her better and feel with her in struggling to balance her duties as queen and her personal desires.

When I read American Royals, I had conflicted feelings about Daphne, particularly how her chapters were written. Luckily, now that her big secret has been revealed, there is no longer the insane amount of foreshadowing/flashbacks that annoyed me in book one. Daphne is a great character and certainly the one that feels the most complex. She’s a terrible person but you can’t help feel sorry for her. I’m wondering if there’s going to be another book because this one left her in quite an interesting place that I would love to explore further.

This book is for you if…
…you enjoy YA romances with lots of fluff and don’t mind a heavy dose of miscommunication.
…you’re looking for a book to read with a cup of tea when you’re looking for escapism and entertainment.

I really love this series. Something different to read and great romance and girly read.
I love the characters and storyline. Easy reading. Can not wait to read more in the series and see where it goes.

I really liked this book, i felt more drawn to this then i did with the first book which i felt dragged to me. I dont know whether it was because i already knew the chararcters so it was an easier book to read. Like in American royals there are alot of character in this book who all have a different kind of story line to keep up with however i didnt find that difficult in this book.

I really liked the romance in this book much more then the first book. I felt we really saw the couples and their feelins move in this book and i liked all 3 of the couples we ended up with. I feel that they worked and yeah even though there was angst which was to be expeceted it made it a fun read.

There was some good character development in this book more some then others. One that comes to my mind when i think of character development is Samantha and we see her go from a whinny selfish 18 year old to acting like an adult and stepping up to bigger shoes even if she did go through some stuff to get there.

Another thing i really liked about this book was that it featured one of my favourite tropes to read about which was Fake dating to romance. I really liked this part of the book and i think it was one of the things that definitley kept me involved with the story and pushed me to read more.

I gave this book 4 stars and wished there was another book but it did have a good conclusion.

This review will have spoilers for the first book in this duology, American Royals.
I expected this to be much like the first book, American Royals, in that it would be pretty predictable, and for the most part it was, which I didn’t mind too much. However, the plot took a few turns I wasn’t expecting and I think that was what mainly took this from a 4 star to a 5 star.

I continued to love Sam and Nina’s characters, they both went through a lot in the first book and seeing how they overcome the situation and can be happy again really made my heart swell for them, if you couldn’t tell, they’re my favourites. Beatrice definitely grew on me and feel we got to see some real character growth from her in this book which was much needed, especially with her having to figure out how to not only grieve for her father but also learn how to be a Queen in a history full of Kings. Then we have Daphne who my feelings for did not change at all from the first book, I was not surprised with how her character ended up by the end of the book and I’m glad about that as I think any other direction it could have gone would have felt forced. I definitely feel like all characters got the endings they deserved.

Plot wise I really like enjoyed the way this story went, with Beatrice now the Queen and it becomes apparent pretty much straight away in this book that some people won’t be happy with her ruling alone and won’t accept her until she’s married. I absolutely loved how she starts to fight back against this and be a monarch that her father would be so proud of. The characters each dealing with their grief was written really well in my opinion and more than once had me almost in tears, if not actually crying – especially seeing as this had me crying by the end of the prologue.

This is definitely a series I will recommend and one of the rare occurrences that I really enjoy a contemporary series. It’s also definitely one that I will reread in the future.

After the first book and with that ending, now we have his second and last book, without a doubt the expectations were high in this second part, that it would be more concrete in the story, that it would delve into characters that kept us in high interest in its first book (Daphne and her interest), and other things, here in its first part I can say that it focused a lot on the event in which the first one ended, I felt that it cost a little to get to the point of the plot but without a doubt I improve in I felt the writing, I will say that it was not the best but it surpassed his first book, it is a duology that for me to see, is pleasant and that keeps you interested with that level of drama level monarchy that it gives us and without a doubt it fulfills its objective.

I got this requested this book because I assumed it would be very gossip girl only with royals and while it does feel that way at times it really didn't live up to my expectations and I found myself not finishing the story so there for I will have to give it a middle of the road rating of three.
