Until Then gives us Graham and Rennie's story. While reading the first book in this series, After All, is not a must, please do so you will understand the true struggles, trials and tribulations of this great case of characters from Cape Harbor. The basis of the series is a small group of friends, their amazing bond as youth, the terrible tragedy that tore them apart, and then each couple's journey to healing and HOPEFULLY the series will end with the gang healed.

It's heartbreaking to read the struggle of Graham's twin brother, Grady, and feels so raw and emotional the toll it takes on everyone. Graham's entire life's course was rerouted due to Grady's choices so for him to be so devoted to his care and recovery is commendable.

Rennie always wanted the high power job, but now that she has it she isn't happy with her life's path. She goes through a tremendous journey with a boyfriend that plants her right back in Cape Harbor.

I like Graham and Rennie together. This book is written in such away that alludes to their inevitable coming together, but the journey is hard, and may not be able to be finished after all.

I enjoyed the story very much. I didn't love this one as much as After All, but still recommend. I felt this book relied too heavily on past conversations and memories and too detailed on mundane things.

Thanks NetGalley and Montlake Publishing.

I’m a little on the fence in recommending this book.

This book is the second in the Cape Harbor series. Because I wasn’t familiar with the first book (After All), I decided to read it before embarking on Until Then. I’m very glad I did because, while this book could serve as a stand-alone novel, I think many nuances would be missed without the in-depth background and character development of the first.

It all began with the tragic death of Austin Woods, a young commercial fisherman, who set out with his business partner in the midst of a storm. Only one man came back – Grady Holmes. The impact of Austin’s death rippled through not only his family and close friends, but through the entire town. It consequently disrupted life-long friendships and led Grady into a downward spiral of alcohol and drug addiction.

Until Then focuses on the career and love life of Rennie Wallace, a high-powered attorney engaged to a successful businessman. However good things appear on the surface, Rennie feels unfulfilled on some level and returns to visit Cape Harbor fifteen years after Austin’s death. Almost immediately, she crosses paths with Graham Holmes (Grady’s identical twin brother) who gave up his budding career to return home to care for his traumatized brother. The story unfolds as Rennie’s conflicting feelings about her fiancé meet the reawakening of her dormant attraction to Graham.

The exploration of the many manifestations of unresolved grief is quite good, including guilt, anger, withdrawal, isolation and dependency. The family dynamics of dealing with an addict is particularly heart-wrenching as lives are put on hold with good intentions, only to result in enabling the addict to fall deeper into the abyss.

My ambivalence in recommending these books stems from the amount of repetition and emotional angst the characters experience. The literary style relies heavily on flashbacks, moving back and forth between the present and the characters’ relationships forged in their teens/early twenties. I felt it wasn’t necessary to play out the past in such detail; rather than describing past events as if they were happening in real time, I would have preferred a brief summary in most instances. For me the extensive use of flashbacks made the novel feel overly drawn out.

My thanks to the author, Montlake Romance and NetGalley for providing the opportunity to review a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoy reading Heidi’s work. The three members of 4225 West (Beaumont series) books were the best of the entire series for my reading tastes, so I jumped at the chance to read, After All, the first book in the Cape Harbor series. I loved it and when an opportunity to read Until Then came up, I wasn’t missing out!
Heidi has a great talent in creating three-dimensional places that become an extra character. Cape Harbor is lively and full of fun people, great locations and it’s terrific to return to Graham, Bowie, and the group, like reconnecting with old friends.
I enjoyed the glimpse of Rennie’s character we got in After All and her book didn’t stray far from it. She’s driven, smart, and loyal to those she loves. I love how Rennie reacted when Theo’s true nature was revealed. She is woman, hear her roar.
Graham is a character I feel for. He gave up everything to come home and help with his addict brother. He’s running between his business, friends, his parents, and his brother. Made more difficult when their father has blinders on.
Graham and Rennie’s chemistry was clear in the previous book and I enjoyed reading their relationship in full. They mesh and bring out the best in each other. They are supportive without complaining and drop everything when one is in need.
I’m still expecting Austin to turn up alive, mostly because his body hasn’t been found and I have a wild imagination.
As much as I loved Bowie and Brooklyn, Until Then is my current favorite book in the series.

I received a free copy of this via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Graham loves computers. Rennie is his best friend. He met Rennie when she came to visit Brooklyn in Cape Harbor. He instantly had feelings. I like the name Brooklyn. Rennie became a lawyer. Graham has a girlfriend Monica who wants to get married. Austin goes missing on a sailing accident. Then it's fifteen years later . Rennie gets a promotion due in part to her being alone which breaks her heart. She never wanted children. She meets Theo and falls for him . Graham helps run a bar with his parents and is a bartender. His brother Grady is a alcoholic . I was hooked from the beginning. I liked the quiet life Graham led living on a houseboat.

Warning!!! Until Then may result in a book hangover. I finished this book more than 24 hours ago but feared writing the review would take away the bliss, the satisfaction, the extreme pleasure I felt from reading Until Then. I want to remain in the Zen moment but I also want others to get excited about reading this amazing story. I have waited for Graham's story and it was worth every day, every minute I have waited.

I have waited because Graham deserves a happily ever after. Graham has earned a happily ever after. Graham deserves a life, a better life than what he has been living. Graham gave up his life, his dreams, his love over fifteen years ago in order to support his family. His twin, Grady, survived a tragic boat wreck but the town's perfect son did not. Graham now serves the alcohol at The Whale Spout that is brother drowns his sorrows.

The author created a beautiful second chance romance that grabbed me from the very beginning. My heart bled for Graham as he struggled to be what his parents needed, leaving himself behind. I cried for his lonely heart, hoping he would find love again. I swooned over Graham when he realized his first love, was his only love.

Graham's journey to Rennie was filled with obstacles. Let's face it anything worth having shouldn't come easy, you should have to work for it. The author made them both work for their happily ever after. She created a world that the reader can escape within. The scenery is that vacation you always wanted but just couldn't find. The memories of their past had the reader belonging. What could be better than being part of the story?

When I read the synopsis for Unit then:
Rennie Wallace has it all: a boyfriend, a good job, a best friend who lives a stone’s throw away…but something’s missing. She isn’t sure what until she returns to Cape Harbor, her favorite home away from home. There, she crosses paths with an old love, Graham. Rennie’s drawn to him but senses their paths in life have wandered too far apart.

Graham Chamberlain has returned to Cape Harbor to care for his brother, the town alcoholic. Managing and serving drinks at his family’s bar, Graham can’t believe how mundane his life has become. He’s resigned himself to living for others, his own desires for adventure and romance taking a back seat to running the family business—until Rennie walks through his door.

Graham feels the weight of his small-town life; Rennie has a boyfriend and a busy life in the city. But neither can deny the rekindled spark between them. Will they find their way back to one another

I just wanted to read it. But after reading it, I had different opinion. Not about reading it, but about synopsis.
It doesn't go exactly like it is described.
A lot of things are going on in this book. So I am lacking romance. There isn't a connection between Rennie and Graham. We can see a tiny portion of their history. But nothing really in te present.
This is not an easy breeze romance book.
It deals with addiction, death, affair.
... From me 3 stars.

This book is fantastic. It shows that no matter what you can always go home maybe not to the exact same place it was before but most times the changes are wonderful and you have relationships at a much more intense level. Heidi writes such descriptive phrases that you can almost feel the boat below you and the waves along the beach as the tide returns for the day. The taco cart leaves you being hungry and wishing you could get a fish taco and sit by the beach relaxing and just hearing the waves crash.

Of course the fact that Rennie is trying to find herself and to succeed on her own is a story that many of us have experience in our own lives. Graham is every girls dream of a caring person that only wants the best for his family and is willing to work at it to achieve that goal and while being supportive of Rennie not being overbearing and smothering.

This is definitely a book that I would recommend for a beach read or for a cloudy day when you just want and need the feel of the sun and beach. I received this gook in order to be an ARC reader and read it a second time. Just loved it both time. (less)
