I've read a couple of his books before so was really disappointed with this one

I love Peter James and this is the first stand-alone book of his that I have read. It was very enjoyable and fast paced. Had a unique storyline and setting that I found interesting.

Peter James is one of my favourite authors...absolutely love the Roy Grace series of books.

I Follow You is a stand alone thriller. The build up and the suspense will keep you totally hooked right from the start. A thoroughly good read. Highly recommended.

Thank you to Netgalley, Macmillan and the author for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A stand alone thriller by the well known author. At the heart of the story is Marcus, a well respected consultant with a dark and sinister streak running through him that fuels his obsessive behaviour. This results in a tense thriller with a race to save the lives of his love obsession Georgie and her fiancé endangered by his plots to get what he desires.,he holds lives in his hands in more ways than one
An excellent read

I follow you is a psychological thriller that kept me glued to my kindle from start to end.

Jersey, it’s a small island where everybody knows everybody and they connect in any activity or daily scene.

Marcus is the gynecologist of the clinic where Georgi, a fitness trainer, attends her pregnancy consultations and that’s how his infatuation starts.

There are many moments when I wanted to shout at her to watch her back or say” don’t believe him!” and the author has the ability to keep me committed til the last page to unveil why Marcus was so obsessed with her and where his plan will take us next.

The side characters, her friend and husband, the dialogue and all the suspenseful moments, made this story even more reliable.

A fast-paced read with so many twists and turns, some predictable some not so much, where not everyone is who they pretend they are, with some mysterious situation with no answer or solution, all adds up for another must read by a favourite author.

I highly recommend it to all the thriller/crime lovers.

Here is a story of obsession, stalking and narcissism that ends with a tense thrilling good enough for TV finale
The story centres around top Gynaecologist Marcus Valentine and his fixation for a woman who reminds him of a girl he had his first sexual encounter with
I’ve read lots of books that feature stalkers in all shapes sizes and forms but Marcus is truly one of the most ‘weaselly’ of characters, petulant, childish, whiney, self centred and arrogant
Also evil
You will want to see his demise and be rooting for it
The other characters play good solid parts but he takes centre stage all the way through
Now the book is easy to guess, at every juncture but didn’t bother me at all and heightened the excitement as knew what was about to happen
There is a lot, too much, medical information given tbh and lots of gynaecological references throughout and it would be easy to get bogged down with this if let yourself, then again it is a book based around medicine and hospitals so guess there is a fine line on how detailed to go?
The book is set in Jersey and portrays the island really well and conjures up a wonderful relaxed image in your mind
I felt after 30% the book really picked up speed and once into the stride of the story really then never gave up
All in all a dark book about a man who appears to be the epitome of all that is great when actually he is the reverse, and then some

8/10

One of my favourite go to authors. Marcus a man who has a secret that can get him killed. A good crime thriller but not what I usually expect from this author. An easy read which kept me entertained.
Thanks to Pan Macmillan and Netgalley for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.

Firstly I have to say when I started this book It felt so different to any other Peter James book I had read. A phycological thriller that leaves you wondering who can be trusted and if it's really worth going to my dr appointment.
The build up and suspense behind the story is brilliantly done.
Marcus Valentine is a very successful Doctor. He has the wife, the kids, the car, the money. On paper it seems he has it all. yet Marcus Valentine is a very nasty, evil controlling man.
He has developed a very strange obsession with one of his patients. A very unhealthy obsession at that. It is his patient and friends partner that he has the obsession with, Georgie is feeling a little uneasy when she is around Marcus but can't put her finger on why.
When things start going wrong for Georgie he is there to support her.
There is plenty going on in this story, some of it seems a little far fetched but then it really does add to the story. Marcus is a master at manipulation and this really adds that chilling edge to the story.

an easy read.

With thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the arc, which I have enjoyed reading.
I Follow You by Peter James is a stand alone novel featuring Georgie and Roger who are targeted by Marcus Valentine. I was reading this at the start of the Halloween weekend and parts of the story had my hairs standing on end at the back of the neck. The build up and suspense as to whether or not people would realise what Marcus was doing in time and the repercussions if they didn’t totally unnerved me and I forgot it was a book of fiction.
That is the sign of a master story teller and this book is a masterclass in storytelling.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and recommend it to everyone.

This was a psychological thriller about obsessive behaviour which really creeped me out.
Marcus Valentine is a hospital consultant on the island of Jersey who becomes obsessed with fitness instructor and runner Georgie. However Marcus is a gynaecologist and obstetrician and Georgie is pregnant which forms the basis of this chilling story.
The setting of Jersey makes this book even more claustrophobic- it is a small island so everyone seems to know each other. Marcus is friendly with Georgie’s partner Roger who is a pilot. All the island hospital doctors know each other well and socialise together.
The author really ratchets up the tension as the book progresses and I will not reveal too much of the plot as it will spoil all the twists and turns which make this book so compelling. Suffice it to say that Marcus is not all he seems.
This was a quick read which entertained me over the course of a rainy day for which I am extremely grateful!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for my advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book all the way through. It had a really good plot, great main characters and really keeps you hooked on the plot. I would highly recommend this book.

This is a solid good read by a prolific author.

Marcus is a well thought of consultant, revered by colleagues and with a seemingly perfect family life. However, he hides a secret obsession that threatens his very existence.

This is a book about obsession, family secrets, difficult upbringing and the heartache of obsession and frustration.

Peter James is an excellent author and it’s great to see him expand beyond the Roy Grace series. This is a satisfying read, just, not a great one.

A solid 3* Good Read

I romped through it quite unexpectedly as had seen one or two 2 star reviews!. Have read all roy grace series so didn't no what to expect. I loved it. Just what we all need just now an easy but gripping read.

I’m a great fan of the author’s Roy Grace series and if I’m honest wasn’t of the last standalone book so I was unsure if I’d like this, but I needn’t have worried. While it was a little of a slow burn for me from about a third in it really got going. Brilliant plot, unbelievably evil narcissistic main character and a mind blowing race for time in the finale. A genuine’, did not want to put down until I’d finished, read

So, when one of your favourite authors brings out a standalone story you wonder if you will like it. Roy Grace is one of the best written detective series. This one was slow to start but the second half was great! This story focuses on Marcus Valentine who is a renowned consultant gynaecologist. When he comes across Georgie he becomes very quickly obsessed with her. When she becomes pregnant he thinks he can get close to her. What follows is stalking, scary things happening and Georgie not knowing what to believe. A good read that reminded me of why I enjoy these books so much

A different kind of creepy. James has written excellent ghost stories demonstrating what an atmospheric and disturbing writer he can be. In this book he uses the fears of the modern day: how easy it is for someone to stalk and invade someone else's' life. This story, or a version of it, can happen to anyone.

So many of my friends have uploaded data of their runs and cycle routes with times and conditions. All apparently innocent. I have no interest in their personal goals so haven't really looked into this information - until now. It truly is alarming what you can find out about someone from this data. All good among friends, of course.

In this tale, a middle-aged professional man sees a woman running and she reminds him of an infatuation he had while he was at school. Glad to say that the woman isn't a teenager (that's another type of creepy) but was vulnerable just as much. Disturbing to see the levels of obsession this apparently normal man would go to just to see her or pictures of her. Plus the fact that it is so easy.

Being a professional and socially able man, nobody suspects him of any wrongdoing. James portrays this really well. The tension increases as we move into a couple of life and death situations, willing the victims on, please don't die, the agonising wait to see if they pull through. Expertly done.

The last section is very dramatic (maybe a little too much to be realistic, but hey, we need it) but it highlights how easy it is for things to be manipulated, how we put trust in people because they are educated and respected and how, ultimately, we shouldn't. Everyone take care. Great writing, recommended.

I've been rather disappointed by the last few Roy Grace books by this author - they are getting a bit samey tbh - but his stand alones appear to still be going strong. This one is no exception as I pretty much whizzed through it - start to finish in only a couple of sittings. Set on the wonderful island of Jersey (one of my favourite places) we meet Consultant Gynaecologist/Oncologist Marcus Valentine. On his second marriage and with three children, a top job, he really has it all. But, as with quite a few men, "it all" isn't enough, and a chance encounter with Georgie puts her firmly in his sights. Problem is, she's happy with her partner Roger. But Marcus is determined to get his girl, but how far will he go and how many lines will he need to cross to get her...?
Oh My - what a character Marcus turned out to be. Nasty, manipulative, and with a lot of power and resources for his nefarious shenanigans. Most of which I can't mention here but each more shocking than the last. And it becomes a race against time as the story reaches its climax.
Yes, it's a bit predictable, yes it's mostly nothing I haven't seen before, and yes, it's a little over the top in places but, you know what, put all that together and it works. Characters are great, apart from Marcus' wife who was a bit of a limp lettuce at times. And I really did run the gamut of emotions all the way through as they fell foul of what was going on.
It's fast paced and gets on with itself very well. The tension ramps up as what happens is layered on. And then as the layers start to peel back, as people start to get wise, well, it's a bit of a race to the end. But what end will it be?
All in all, a cracking read that kept my attention nicely throughout and which left me satisfied at its conclusion. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

Another great book by Peter James. I loved this stand alone book and I struggled to put it down. I am a keen runner so could particularly relate to the running aspects of the book. It seems like Parkrun was such a long time ago so it was nice to read about it. One thing I did do straight away was to change my Strava settings to prevent Dr Valentine from following me! Although a little predictable in places, the story flowed brilliantly and the ending was fantastic too. Great book, would highly recommend

Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. Another great read from a great author, fast paced thriller, great characters and had me hooked to the last page.

I love Peter James and the Roy Grace series. This was a stand alone story set in Jersey and although it was a good read there was something missing for me. Marcus was a nasty character with not many redeeming features and Georgie was not very plausible. I like books where I do not guess the ending until the very end but this story was very predictable.
Thank you Peter James, Pan Mcmillan and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to give my unbiased opinion.
