Greg has been killed in a cycle accident. A year on, his wife Marianne is sorting through his belongings when she checks his computer...
Greg had been using the dark web and, amongst other discoveries, Marianne finds her name on a hit list - to be killed! She investigates further...

The storyline is quite complicated, throwing up a background of illegal migrant issues. Also, the storyline is one where mistaken culpability is to the fore.

Having read part 1 and part 2, I found I’d forgotten the gist of part 1 which is then revisited in part 3 (confusing!)

The book is an ok read, but the author touched upon some ideas that were left in the lurch, without satisfactory resolution.
After a somewhat tension buildup to the finale, the revealing of the perpetrator was a distinct letdown.

On the whole, the plot, whilst fiction, was in the unbelievable category - particularly the assassin and perpetrator.

I really enjoyed listening to this thriller. I was kept on the edge of my seat throughout. I loved how the story switched between the past and the present, and between different peoples POV. It really showed how situations people are thrown into make them react, and react in ways that they never thought was possible.
For me the ending tied the story up nicely.

Marianne’s husband Greg was killed a year ago, knocked from his bicycle in a hit and run. She is finding it hard to let go of his memory, and her grief leads her to re-reading his old emails just to feel close to him. Shockingly his computer reveals more than just old correspondence. She finds a link to the dark web. Tracing his history she finds the hacked “assassins’ supermarket” and sees her own name on a hit list – “Congratulations. Someone wants you dead!” As she digs deeper, she starts to wonder about the man she shared her life with. A charity worker dedicated to helping trapped women, he had certainly seemed distracted before his death. She finds emails to his ex and mentions of Bluebell. Was Greg who he seemed or was her life and marriage all a lie? Who wants her to die? And who is Sam, the assassin stalking her?
The story is told from different character’s viewpoints, Sam and Marianne in the present and Sam and Greg in the past, and provides a great all-round picture as the awful truth is slowly revealed, all the different threads begin to merge and the pieces of the puzzle slot together. It delves into the darkest parts of the criminal underworld and those profiting from it, and poses the question as to how far people would be prepared to go to protect themselves and their secrets. From reading the blurb this possibly wouldn’t have been my first choice but I am so glad I picked up this book. The tension is kept up beautifully throughout as Marianne battles through the confusing revelations and the reader discovers the horrifying world than Greg and Sam are drawn into. Well written, with a strong and chilling plot and lots of unexpected turns, I would definitely recommend this book. 5*

Excellent novel, gripping and addictive!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for letting me access an advance copy of this audio book in exchange for my feedback.

An enjoyable title, though I do feel it could have been a bit shorter as it dragged a bit in the middle. The ‘2021’ timeline doesn’t quite seem to fit under the current circumstances- but then again, nobody could have predicted the last year!

When Marianne's husband Greg is knocked off his bike and tragically killed on the way to work, she must unpick the life he left behind. Numb with grief, Marianne consoles herself by scouring Greg's laptop, finding comfort in reading his old emails and tracing his footsteps across the web. But, one day, she discovers that he had been accessing the dark web. Why? What was Greg, a principled charity worker and dedicated husband doing logging on to a website that showcases the worst of humanity's cruel impulses and where absolutely anything is available for a price?

Marianne gets herself together and logs on, after a bit of a search she shockingly discovers her name on a hit list. Why? Was Greg the one who put her there? Was he trying to find out who did?
Is she now in danger and who is Sam?

As the novel moves quite quickly with turns and twists, it has an ending I wasn’t expecting at all and I was gripped from start to finish.

Marianne's husband Greg who was a social worker and a principled man dead in a bike accident. Marianne is not able to accept the fact that her husband is dead. To cope up with her grief, to come to terms with her loss, to find peace and comfort she started going through what her husband left behind. She started going through the stuff on his laptop like pictures and emails. While doing this she discovers that he had been accessing the dark web. On his laptop, she finds a link to the dark web on his computer and then finds a hit list with her name on it. Why is her name on the hit list? Did her husband put her name on there or was he trying to protect her...?
.
It is a story which covers topic such as dark web, illegal immigrants, human trafficking, and organ harvesting. There are a lot of characters in the book and no one can be trusted. The book is told from multiple characters' perspectives. The story is gripping and would knock you down in the end. This is the perfect book for those who love thrillers.

Newly widowed Marianne discovers that she's on a hit list after finding that her late husband has been accessing the Dark web. The Hit List is read by multiple narrators and this works really well and adds so much to the story. Unfortunately I wasn't convinced by the plot of this or the character of Marianne and found the novel ultimately disappointing and unbelievable. It is however saved by the excellent cast of narrators.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the digital audiobook

WOW! I've never been a huge fan of audiobooks, but this one....the narrators managed to convey this wife's grief and then her disbelief as she finds more and more information that says her husband was not the man she thought. Absolutely brilliant! Then she must find out why her name is on a hit list...as the tension grows, you can feel it in their voices. Listening to the hit man's thoughts and plans as he circles ever closer was chilling.

This audiobook is most definitely meant to be shared, and shared, and shared again.

Another well written thriller from Holly Sneddon. It is a slow burner with a lot of characters but gets under your skin. Excellent as always.

I listened to The Hit List by Holly Seddon and thoroughly enjoyed it. Told from three different perspectives Marianne the widow who has lost her husband in an accident. Sam the assassin, and Greg, Marriane's husband. The first part of the book is action packed and fast paced, A year after Greg's death Marriane finds out Greg was hiding something, in her search for the truth she delves into the dark web, finding a list of names she believes to be a hit list. Her reward, Sam, who is on a mission to get her out of the picture. The middle section of the book slows the pace as we head back in time to find out what Greg was up to before his death, Sam's back story is also explained here. The final section of the book neatly ties everything up in an action packed finale. Multiple narrators helped bring this story to life, with great expression and atmosphere created. I really enjoyed the plot something different with plenty of grit. The characters were only really developed for the plot so I felt little empathy or understanding for their actions however, when you find out what they're up to this may make more sense! I don't think it detracted from the story really as it is heavily plot based. The one thing I don't really understand is the cover, this book has many gritty themes and potential 'trigger' issues yet the cover makes it look like a cosy chick lit.
Overall an action packed listen with an original plot,
Thanks to NetGalley and Orion, Trapeze for the ARC.

Disturbing Tale Of The Dark Side....
Engaging, tautly plotted suspense, cleverly done. A disturbing tale of the dark side. The dark side of both people and the of the internet. Effectively told using multiple perspectives, by multiple narrators and narrated well. Both intriguing and immersive listening.

I did enjoy listening to The Hitlist but found it quite hard to listen to sometimes as it keeps jumping between times and people, perhaps for this reason it would be better to read it.
It's read by multiple narrators and I found them all to be listenable and clear.
The story was very strong and interesting but did seem to drag on in places.

With multiple narrators, this book was great to listen to.
The story was twisty and fast-paced. On the anniversary of her husband's death, Marianne opened his laptop and found his access to the dark web where their names were found on the hit-list. The husband seemed to have been embroiled in things he shouldn't have been. This was a shock to her system.
This was one heck of a thriller. It was dark and atmospheric and caught me by my throat. The words gripped me as it showed me the underbelly of the internet controlled by powerful people.
The writing maintained its ambiance throughout the book with seamless subplots, some of them caused me to gasp.
Wow
Overall, a rocking thriller.

Fast paced plot with a number of twists throughout. Enjoyed hearing from the various narrators to get their point of view.

I don't normally listen to audio books as I feel I can easily get distracted and lose what is going on in the plot, as I can't just re-read the sentence. But this one kept me engaged throughout and I found it really easy to get into this and not lose attention.
The narration was well done and I like the different voices for each characters, which made it easy to follow. It was clearly narrated and easy to understand throughout.
The plot of the book really gripped me, it is told from different timelines and perspectives, this makes the story flow well and keeps you intrigued to find out what happens next. I was engrossed when Marianne finds her name on a hitlist on her late husband's computer, I just had to know what would happen next and why had her husband died and also who wanted her killed!!
I would recommend this book and the audio book is really easy to listen to.

I listened to The Hit list audiobook and it was very well narrated and told through the three main characters I wish I’d read this rather than listened to it as although I did enjoy the start, I found myself loosing interest partway through as it became a bit repetitive, but I plodded on and I’m glad I did because I did not expect the surprise end,

I really enjoyed this audiobook. It may be a little farfetched for some but that didn't stop me racing through it.
The pace was perfect. The concept was novel and kept my interest. I was invested in the main characters and the story line of how in the bid to do good someone can be drawn into something truely evil.
Many thanks to #netgalley for gifting me the audiobook of #thehitlist in exchange for an honest review.

The Hit List is another chilling thriller from Holly Seddon. It is told from the perspective of several
characters, in different timelines. When Marianne’s husband Greg is killed in a road accident while cycling, she discovers a side to his life she knew nothing about. After exploring his journey through the Dark Web, she realises he may have actually been murdered and her life may also be in danger.
It is difficult to give too much detail without spoiling some of the many plot twists. With extra marital affairs, people trafficking and criminal exploitation included in the book, the storyline is fast paced and quite stressful at times. I did find some parts hard to follow, especially Greg’s part due to the narrator’s accent. I also considered it far fetched at times, but it is ultimately thrilling escapism.
