This book was such a ride, the moment I started it and I was introduced to the characters, I just could NOT put the book down, I devoured each and every page of this story and I might be on the lookout for my own (very hot) roommate who’d be interested in teaching me some moves...

Personally I felt like the synopsis covered only a small portion of what the overall story is about. The book teaches us about the more unmentioned, often ignored aspects of the adult industry and how difficult some things are for performers. Before reading the book I was not very familiar about the inner workings of the adult entertainment industry and how at times performers have to face certain situations that they do not have a lot of control over.

I would really like to say that I loved how the book was divided into two perspectives, which allowed the reader to understand both characters and to sympathize with their situations. Clara came from a family that expected her to never stray away from what they considered as being the “right” path. She had to deal with all of that pressure while she waited for her childhood crush to finally notice her for what she is. On the other hand, we have Josh, who I absolutely loved and just could not get enough of, who is navigating through the world of pornography and dealing with all the stuff that comes with it while figuring out what he wants to do next. Both characters were carrying around different type of insecurities that they slowly overcame as the story progressed further, making them more confident about themselves and about what they wanted moving forwards.

The Roommate had a great blend of rom-com-iness, steam, important discussions, positive relationships and a lot of movie references and cute scenes!

Thank you to the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book. However, I did not end up finishing it because I didn’t feel the connection between the characters and the story became forgettable.

✨This has got to be the most hyped book on Instagram this year, right? And for me it completely lived up to that hype and more!

I thought it was such a fun read, it was so unique and the story and subject matter was really different to anything I’ve read!

Rosie’s writing was so wonderful and flowed so well and I couldn’t put it down once I’d started! Super excited for the companion book to come out next year too!

Definitely pick this one up if your looking for some 🔥🔥🔥in your story. Also if you like Sally Thorne’s books or Christina Lauren’s earlier books too!

Here’s the blurb...
“Clara Wheaton is the consummate good girl: over-achieving, well-mannered, utterly predictable. When her childhood crush invites her to move across the country, the offer is too good to resist. Unfortunately, it's also too good to be true.

Suddenly, Clara finds herself sharing a house with a charming stranger. Josh might be a bit too perceptive - not to mention handsome - for comfort, but there's a good chance he and Clara could have survived sharing a summer sublet if she hadn't looked him up on the internet . . .

Once she learns how Josh has made a name for himself, Clara realises living with him might destroy the reputation she's spent years building. But while they may not agree on much, both Josh and Clara believe women deserve better sex. What they decide to do about it will change both of their lives, and if they're lucky, they'll help everyone else get lucky too.”✨

I think this book is a little confused - part romantic fiction, part steamy erotica, I enjoyed parts of it and felt uncomfortable with others - a think a more robust discription would have been helpful

Characters believable though.

The Roommate was such a fun book and a bit of a twist on classic rom-coms.

Clara is a shy girl from upper class New York. Her family has all sort of expectations for her but she feels trapped in the life she is currently living and decides to take a major step into the life she wants. And she wants her best friend - really bad.

She decides to move to LA and share an apartment with Everett Bloom her absolute crush, only to find out that Everett is going on the road with his band and Clara will be sharing with a new guy he found on the internet, the super nice Josh.

At first, she feels like a failure. But she really wants to avoid the scandal (something her family is well know for) of running back home so soon and decides to stick it out.

She forms and easy flirty friendship with Josh, and then she finds out what he does for a living. Josh is a porn star, one that is famous with women for having a different approach in the industry.

However, the studios aren't that happy with him. He has a cult following, but they want to force him out of his comfort zone and he's not ok with that.

Joining forces with scandal-shy Clara they put their minds together to create something unique that can revolutionise the sex industry in the best possible way. But of course, with such a taboo topic to be working on, will Clara be able to face her fears and put herself out there?

This was such a different rom-com and I loved how it was written in such a funny and charming way. But, although I liked the story as a whole I felt like Josh and Clara's connection could have been stronger. Maybe because of the sexy tone I was never convinced in their love for eachother. I still liked their relationship, but it also didn't give me the warm fluffy feeling I expect from rom-coms.

Clara's relationship with her family was also a bit underdeveloped. But although some parts were a bit lacking, the overall experience of the Roommate was great and I look forward to reading more from Rosie Danan in the future.

Thank you Netgalley for approving me for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

In The Roommate we meet Clara who finds herself sharing a house with Josh. Let’s just say that Clara and Josh have pretty opposite personalities. Can they really be roommates for an entire summer?

First of all I should let you know that The Roommate has quite a steamy storyline so just a little warning if you blush easily 😉 The romance had a good balance of these sizzling moments along with some more sweeter moments too. Clara and Josh are brilliant characters. I couldn’t help but root for them as they slowly learned to live with each other! Along with coming to the realisation that maybe they aren’t really that different in certain ways after all. The chemistry between the two of them is what makes this book work so well. It’s safe to say that when they are together, sparks fly!

The plot itself moves at a good pace and kept my interest till the end. The author definitely managed to put a fun and at times interesting spin on things. All of this plus Josh and Clara’s interactions made this book such an entertaining read! The Roommate had moments of humour and a slow burn romance that all came together to create a fun story of what happens when opposites attract!

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC.

This book surprised me. The first few chapters had me thinking it maybe wasn't the book for me but not long after I was hooked! I thoroughly enjoyed this book, such a quick and fun read.

This was such a cute book! I absolutely loved it! The story moved along well without any big gaps or slow moving sections. I really liked the characters, I thought they were well fleshed out.

I couldn't get into this one. It felt too cliche and flippant - an easy read if that is what you are in the mood for.

A bit unexpected, a departure from the usual nerdy bookish or self-loathing manly love interests of most of the novels I come across.

However it in some ways perpetuates the unattainable notion that when in close quarters a stranger will see past a girl’s shy exterior and hard shell of academia or bookishness and fall in love with her because of those things. Because they make her * different *

Heartwarming none the less, as it has all the makings of a romcom that could make it to the top of Netflix’s list of hits like yesterday. It paints an uber-realistic picture of LA in the sense that 1 in 10 people that you meet is probably in the adult entertainment industry and in a time when travelling across the Pond is impossible, this was a favorable alternative.

Amazing at building sexual tension with scenes that feel natural and unforced. Sometimes the language – particularly the dialogue, borderlined on cheesy in a way that made me question how realistic it was. But the overall feel-good air of the book helped me move on from those details quickly.

Not what I was expecting, but an enjoyable read. I liked how it is told from both of their points of view.

Looking forward to the next book in this series.

Roommate'sw being opposite attracts with the hero being a porn star, positive sex work, feminists changing the lens of pornography for women... all really good stuff.

Phew! What a fun, steamy read!
I’m not sure what exactly but something was missing to make it a 5 star read. It felt a little rushed towards the end when tying everything together.
It’s not a favourite but if steamy romance is your thing, definitely give it a go!

I thought that this story was good and it moved along swiftly.

I thought that the characterisation was great, they were well developed, genuine and believable characters that worked well together and that really helped with my enjoyment of the book.

The detail to the story was lovely and it was a delight to read - the author did a great job in keeping the story flowing - it is 4 stars from me for this one - highly recommended!

I enjoyed the interactions between Josh and Clara, great set up and had real promise. But it was just too explicit for me and made uncomfortable reading. I don’t think I’m a prude but there was more graphic detail than I would expect for a book - and particularly as it didn’t come with a warning. It’s great if you enjoy erotic fiction but not my preferred genre .

Writing was light and an easy style. Interesting premise and love the feminist themes but overall not for me!

This is the first book from this author that I’ve read. The synopsis really caught my attention and appealed to me.

Clara is a socialite and ‘in love’ with friend Everett who lives in LA. Clara moves to LA to pursue a romantic relationship with Everett, but he’s leaving town to play with his band and has sublet his room to porn actor, Josh.

Clara and Josh develop a friendship. Josh encourages Clara to embrace her sexual independence and makes her see that her own satisfaction is part of a good sexual experience.

As time progresses, Clara and Josh’s friendship grows and feelings begin for each other. I liked the growth between them.

There were lots of different storylines running alongside the main romance between Clara and Josh and sometimes it felt like a chore trying to keep up with them. However, everything tied up nicely by the end of the book, so it didn’t feel like meaningless storylines to fill pages. Every subplot had a purpose!

I liked Clara, she was naive and had no confidence in herself. Her character grew with the story. She believed in herself; this wasn’t a result of Josh (although he was part of it) but she started to believe she was capable and grew as a person. I loved this as too many stories show the female develop ‘because’ of the man. Josh was a great character, funny, sexy and very likeable.

Overall, I really liked this book and will definitely look out for other work from this author.

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for my advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review 📚

The roommate trope in romances is a favourite of mine and I had really hoped I would adore this but unfortunately, it just fell a little flatter than anticipated for me.

I really liked both characters stories and individual arcs within the story but the actual pull of their relationship and chemistry was missing a tick. The sex and romance scenes were well written and definitely steamy but I felt the spark of romance was never really present and I couldn't buy all in!

I would like to read more by the author as I did find her writing to have a good intelligent and engaging backbone (which is hard to find in lots of romance novels!) and there was lots of genuinely humourous moments too!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I want to thank netgalley and the publishers and author for allowing me to read this book for my honest opinion.
I found the book quite explicit and for me there was quite a lot of swearing in which I wasn't expecting.
The story was OK and I like the cover

A lovely rom com with likeable main chracters and an unusual plot line.

I thought this was very well written, and amusing. A quick read, I finished it in one sitting and would definitely like to see more from this author.

The Roommate is a solid debut novel and I can see why it's been such a popular release. If you're looking for a fun, swoony and sex-positive read then definitely pick this one up! I loved the set-up of this one, obvs the roommate trope is a classic for a reason. I also liked that our two main characters were such opposites of one another, I found that they complimented each other perfectly.

This is definitely one of the most sex positive books i've ever read. There's a lot of discussion surrounding sex, sex workers and a lot of focus on women's pleasure within sex. It called out problems within the porn industry whilst validating the performers which was refreshing to see. I think Rosie Danan did a fantastic job in how she wrote and explored these aspects.

I did have a couple of problems with this one though, the main one being that there was simply too much going on. There are so many different side plots happening within this one that I don't think most of them got the page time they needed. The conflicts toward towards the end especially highlighted this issue and I found the resolution to be too quick.

Overall, a fun and sexy romance that I enjoyed and i'm excited to see what this author comes out with next.
