This book was Hot hot hot did I mention hot?

Clara moves to LA because she secretly loves her bestie but when he decides to go on tour with his band she's left alone, or not because she has a new roommate. Josh who is also a adult movie star. This book is filled with laugh out loud moments, really hot steamy scenes and adorable cute ones too. This book really did surprise me by how much I did enjoy myself reading it, I will be reading more books by this author in the future.

Wow what a debut. I absolutely loved this fast paced, flirty, fun and well written book. It's the tale of opposites who share a house, a lot of chemistry and together overcome those things that are holding them back. Both Josh and Clara are beautifully written characters and the sexual chemistry between them is off the scale. Hats off to Rosie Danan, she really knows how to bring the sizzle to scene.

When I say opposites, I really do mean opposites, Clara uptight and sealed up while Josh is about as louche and laid back as they come. I'm not going to reveal much more than that because I don't want to spoil the story.

What I will say is that the book gives a sensitive and humorous portrayal of a subject that is often dismissed and ridiculed and extra Kudos to the author for taking this on and showing readers a down to earth, practical and common sense view.

I thoroughly enjoyed this tale and can't wait to read more from this author.

Not your average chick lit, which I loved. It's not everyday that you come across a book that involves a socialite and a porn star. Seeing Carla's transformation from this prim and proper socialite wanting to please everybody and not really living the life she deserved to be to this sexually liberated siren who goes after what she wants. Josh is a swoon worthy leading man. You could feel the sexual attraction between the two characters whilst reading. A very well written, funny and heart warming book.

Absolute perfection. I was in love with them both from the first chapter, and enjoyed every single second of this book. Not only is it an enjoyable rom-com with lots of steamy moments, it's also an incredible treatise on the importance of women's pleasure (both in the bedroom and in life). Absolutely stellar, especially for a debut.

WARNINGS: Panic attacks, sexual acts

This contemporary romance was a delight to read. Both of the characters had great chemistry and unlike some romance books I have read, they had their own lives. Clara is a socialite who has moved to LA to be with her best friend (and crush) only for him to ditch her to go on tour with his band so she is left living in a new city with a stranger. This stranger is Josh who is in the adult entertainment business. They are complete opposites yet they mesh together really well. It was fun to watch how they grow together.

I also liked the side character, Naomi, who is Josh's ex as she brought another element to the book. I wasn't that keen on the ending/epilogue as it felt lacking to me but that doesn't mean I didn't like the book! There were a lot of moments that had me grinning, the sex scenes were done well and I enjoyed how the sex workers were talked about (we need more sex worker positivity).

BOOK REVIEW: The Roommate by @rosiedanan

4 stars

I really enjoyed this rather naughty romance but it was not at all what I expected it to be!!

Clara the lead female character is a rather might, studious and shy woman. She is a very interesting character and I loved seeing more layers to her personality as the story went progressed.
Josh the lead male is a porn star or "adult performer". I wasn't expecting this to be such a huge part of the book and I have never read a romance where one of the couple works in porn so it was very unique but it worked really well. Josh is such a nice guy and I loved how he and Clara contrasted but also clicked.

The porn industry played a big role in this book. It told of the exploitation of sex workers and how performers are so badly treated to the point of control, manipulation and abuse. It is also so refreshing how sex was talked about in such a positive, open way. There is no shame in enjoying sex!

What I found missing was some depth to the main characters and I wanted more personality to sell the story even more. This meant I struggled at the beginning to gel with the characters. I think this is also because the book was written in the third person which I always find harder to connect with.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for the second book in the series to be published in 2021. It is a very sex positive romance and it was well written and really enjoyable.

Please note that I was #gifted this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Roommate is a cute, funny and very sexy read. Perfect for reading in the bath with candles lit and a glass of wine or your favourite drink. Pure and utter blissful escapism when you just want a bit of me time!

I really wanted to enjoy this book but it did NOT live up to the hype at all. The narrative was stiff and stilted and I had time getting through the first chapters. It was a little painful at a point.

Our heroine Clara is an A-Type Socialite who is obsessed with planning and being the Perfect Daughter, until one day she decides to take a risk and drops everything to be with the childhood friend she's crushed on for years. Only he decides to leave town the day she gets there leaving Clara in a new place with no job, no friends, and a stranger for a roommate who happens to be a pornstar?!

I really enjoyed this book, it's a pretty solid debut. I usually prefer first person but I thought Danan did a brilliant job of showing both Clara and Josh's individual character arcs, they have their own issues to face and I think Danan balanced them both beautiful.

I will say that some of Clara's issues are resolved a bit too easily--and I loved that Josh actually pointed that out but felt that Clara's reaction was a bit over-the-top in the face of his criticism. This girl does not take criticism well at all.

Things I loved:

1) The chemistry is off the charts! These characters give off enough steam to set the pages (or in this case my Kindle) on fire.

2) Josh! He was just so caring and attentive towards Clara, he helped her in the kindest of ways and my gosh he is so swoony. Definite book boyfriend material.

3) The feminist message woven throughout. Female pleasure is important and this book shone the light on the discrepancy in the porn industry and the shame women are made to feel about enjoying sex. I am here for books prioritizing female pleasure!

Things I didn't love

1) One of Clara's main issues had to do with her family and disappointing her mother-but we never meet her and I felt that was a bit of a lost opportunity. I feel that Clara didn't gain as much development as Josh and this was one of the reasons, it's an issue that's never truly confronted. Or, at least, for me it wasn't.

2) The last ten per cent was a bit rushed, with lots of added drama that felt crammed in. Either the drama needed taking out, or the book needed expanding. I definitely would have preferred the latter!

Altogether though this is an amazing debut and I can't wait for Danan's next book (especially because it's about the kickass Naomi!)

The story follows Clara, a naive Connecticut girl heading to LA in pursuit of love in the form of her school friend Everett. Unfortunately for her, Everett has let his room out and didn’t tell her- leaving Clara with a porn star as a roommate.

I tend to enjoy the forced proximity trope so I was looking forward to reading this, and it definitely didn’t let me down! The Roommate was a really fun and enjoyable read and writing style is so welcoming that it draws you in and makes you want to continue reading!

Even though it is light-hearted the author really works hard to lift the taboo around sex, sex workers and pleasure; and she does this with ease whilst still keeping the book entertaining.

Many thanks to the Little Brown Book Group and Netgalley for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Clara moved in the other side of the country after her crush since childhood, Everett, invited her to live with him. Her life wasn't going the way she wanted so she decided she needed a change. Only to discover that, Everett will be leaving for a tour the exact moment she moves in and in his room would be staying a guy he doesn't know.

I found the beginning very interesting especially once we learn that Josh is a porn star. That wasn't something I expected at all. It was a very intriguing twist.

Other that that, I didn't see the chemistry between Clara and Josh. There wasn't much build up to their relationship.

The roommate trope and forced proximity are two of my favourites tropes. I had hoped that this would be a fun romantic comedy, but I didn't found it very funny or enjoyed it much.

*I received an arc from the publisher through Netgalley and this is my honest opinion.

I received a copy of The Roommate from Little Brown Book Group UK via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

A good girl and a kind-of-a-bad-boy were so up my street that I barely read the synopsis before requesting, especially when its an adult rather than YA. And because I barely I read it I was so surprised at the huge part sex played in the story. I felt it added to the innocent girl vibe when it was clear the guy was almost an expert in that side of things.

I really liked the relationship they had together, I wanted more build-up and tension before it got romantic but I was still on the edge of my seat waiting for it to happen!

I would wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone who loves a rom-com!

I raced through this Roommate troupe, it was a nice mix of funny, touching and steamy moments to keep me hooked. Would like to read more from this author in the future. I must admit the subject matter was a new one on me and not what I was expecting - but definitely provided lots of sexual tension!

Thank you so much for the chance to review this book NetGalley and Publishers , I loved it!

Not Your Average Love Story... Steamy Addictive Read 💭

Clara, still after all these years trying to win Everett Blooms affection, travels to LA thinking she'll be spending the summer with him, discovers he's rented his main room to Josh for the summer and is going off on tour. No job, she doesn't know anyone there... question is, should she stay in LA or should she go back to JFK... as Clara's reason for her trip will no longer be there.

Really enjoyed this book, not your average love story, addictive reading where you're willing it to work out.

Josh and Clara's parts were well written, you could sense the desire between them, whilst unlikely to happen in real life, although one never knows 😉 Where Clara is concerned, Josh is desperately trying to do the right thing, and not act on sexual impulses that he's perceived to do. Whereas Clara, seems to be more innocent, initially surprised at finding out exactly what Josh does for a living, but secretly intrigued to find out more.... Although one night stands are not her thing, you can sense the sexual chemistry from the beginning between them, will she give into to his charms.

A definite should read, look forward to reading more from this author.

I am absolutely in love with Rosie Danan’s books, I just couldn’t have loved this more if I tried. Rosie’s writing style feels like a friend, or returning to a loved one, it’s so warm and welcoming. It’s so much fun (and steamy) the chemistry between characters is so cute. It’s so great to see representation in such A positive way for sex workers, I just cannot over emphasise how much Rosie deals with sex workers with sensitivity, the respect that they are due and doesn’t sensationalise or cheapen them as some writers have a tendency to. Such a beautiful story and I hope there are many more to come

I don’t normally read books of this genre, or in such a short length of time but Rosie Danan’s The Roommate completely changed my mind. She writes in a tone that is like talking to an old friend which immediately draws you in and leaves you enraptured by her story. The characters are so well rounded and relatable, I found myself liking them more and more as the book went on. I can see Danan’s writing taking the book world by storm.

This book is well deserving of the 5* review I’m giving it, it’s beautifully written, funny, relatable, sexy, engaging and downright revolutionary. It will completely change your mindset on topics that are still deemed ‘taboo’ in many aspects of society but the detail and care she takes to completely humanise them will have you rethinking everything you’ve ever been told.

You will find yourself falling in love with the characters immediately, rooting for them through every mistake and every choice they make. Danan hooks you into them from the word go, ensuring that you’re invested in the well-being of every character that is introduced throughout.

I can’t recommend this book enough; it perfectly encompasses everything you could want in a saucy summer romance novel.

4 stars!

I believe as far as romance debuts go, this one is a really strong one. Rosie Danan created a fun atmosphere with sexy and steamy moments alongside healthy communication, personal growth and development.

This is a very sex positive and sex worker positive novel and that's so refreshing to see and read about. Clara and Josh are complete opposites on most things but they are also both incredibly smart and kind hearted people looking to do the right thing.

I would recommend going into this novel without reading too much about it in the first place. It has an intricate storyline and it is definitely better to experience it for the first time whilst reading it.

I am looking forward to Rosie's next novel and I highly recommend reading this if you're looking for a fun, steamy, healthy romance novel.

Steamy opposites attract romance!

Clara abandons all of her life plans in New York, jetting off to Los Angeles to live with her longtime crush. Except that when she arrives, he’s rented out his room to a stranger, Josh, and is heading off on the road with his band.

This is a VERY steamy and enjoyable romance, that pairs uptight, upper class art history graduate Clara with laid back, handsome porn star Josh. I found Clara a little off putting at first, she seemed very uptight and not very likeable but she soon softened. I enjoyed the dialogue between the pair but thought their relationship wasn’t wholly convincing at times. I just didn’t quite buy into Josh being so crazy about her. Some of the situations they found themselves in were a little ridiculous to the point of almost being too unbelievable. However, it was a really easy read and Josh gets bonus points for being an X-men fan!

I loved this book!
I requested this book because I had seen it on Twitter quite a few times, and also because a few authors I like recommended it, but I hadn’t really read the blurb so wasn’t sure what to expect. When I realised the plot, I was a bit worried as previous romantic novels which explored sex work have often done so in a sensationalist, sexualised manner; luckily, I felt that The Roommate did neither of these things, instead exploring this industry in a sensitive and nuanced manner.

I loved both characters and they were both so relatable, especially how both Josh and Clara, in their late 20s, are at the point in their lives where they are uncertain about what they want to ‘do’. I loved following them as they figured this out (this becomes quite a bit of the plot and I really loved it). Josh was possibly the sweetest hero I’ve met in a romantic novel, and Clara was so relatable as a young woman battling insecurities.

I also loved how Clara and Naomi formed their own kind of friendship.

Overall, I would really recommend this book, I loved it and I can’t wait for Naomi’s story next year!
