I haven't read the novel that this is based upon, or had a chance to read the trilogy of books based on the main characters fanfiction in this series. Upon reading this manga, I have purchased the novels, and I can't wait to read more of the story as well as see more of the manga get created.

All around enjoyable graphic novel. A solid read for people who don't feel like they quite fit in and/or who are dealing with the loss of a close friendship.

It's been awhile since I've read the original Fangirl but this seems like a great adaptation and a well done book in its own right. I hadn't planned on reading the rest of the series but it did cause me to want to read them all.

A solid manga, but I still enjoyed the book better. I am happy to see this turned into manga and I hope it is a new trend for YA books to be adapted to manga instead of graphic novels or Netflix.

Loved this book! I loved the original novel, so seeing it as a manga was super cool! I'd love to see the Simon Snow books as manga too!

Having previously read Fangirl I was curious to see how it would work as a graphic novel and it didn't disappoint. The graphic novel format really added to the story and even though I was reading a book I had already read I still found myself captivated by it.

This graphic novel adaption was very true to the original novel. The illustrations were very well done and matched the story perfectly. I loved this adaption!

Fangirl is an amazing novel so to see this adaptation that may bring it new readership is so awesome! I loved this adaptation and am looking forward to Volume 2.

A cute but stalkers book.
This GN was a fun read, but would not read another if made.
The main character is a sort of nerdy girl with a bun and glasses, nothing out of the ordinary there!
She writes fan-fiction and does not want friends, prefers her million followers instead.

This is what ruins art, making art for the fans instead of bec you like to do it.

Rainbow Rowell did something wonderful with her Ode to Fanfiction novel, that is really well captured in this comic. The character design is stunning, the expressions and settings are spot on, and the artists wisely capture all the internal emotions of the characters through classic shoujo manga conventions with a mature art (not R-rated, just really complex) reminiscent of Nana. Thank you so much for this project, it will be beloved both as a slice of life and as the seed of a thousand fantastic transmedia fanfics.

This book was absolutely fantastic. I've already added it to our list for order this year and will recommend it to students.

I love Fangirl and it translates so perfectly in this gorgeous manga series! The Simon Snow fanfiction from the novel is fantastically illustrated and I love Gabi Nam's art style!

Fangirl, Volume 1 is the first book in an ongoing manga adaptation of the young adult novel, Fangirl, by Rainbow Rowell. This volume follows the beginning of Cath's time in college. Cath and her twin sister Wren are first year students at college and are stepping out of their comfort zones. While Wren is adapting well to the new environment, Cath is struggling with all of the new people in her life. Luckily, Cath has her fanfiction writing to fall back on and the community of readers she has built. This volume focuses on Cath getting settled in at college, balancing her school work with her passion for fanfiction, and developing new relationships with her classmates, roommate, and her sister.

This book was my first foray into manga. I've read and loved lots of graphic novels before but I was excited to read a new style of book, especially since it was an adaptation of a book I had read before and enjoyed. It took a little while for me to get used to Sam Maggs illustration style, but once I did, I found it added a lot to the story. The illustrations helped interpret character emotions in a really solid way--it kept the book from telling instead of showing.

While there were some plot differences in this adaptation when compared to the original, I had a good time reading it. I think that anyone who is already a fan of manga or the original book will enjoy reading this book. It would also be a good read for anyone looking for a coming of age story or a story heavily focusing on fanfiction and fan culture. I rated this book 4 out of five stars.

Well dang. I loved the book Fangirl so much I’d forgotten how much until I read the graphic novel. The sad part is it’s only part 1 so now I want to reread the book again to get to the ending. Love the artwork. Was happy to add this to the Tx Maverick graphic Novel reading list

The world of Carry On is vast and amazing, I will never tire of living on its fringes.

The Fangirl manga is a visual retelling of Rainbow Rowell's bestselling title of the same name. If you were a fan of Cath the first time, you're sure to fall in love all over again. If you never read Fangirl before, this is the perfect place to jump into both the world of Carry On, and discover the girl who dreamed of this magickal world.

In Vol. 1, Cather is jut starting at college and having a bit of a difficult time of it. Her twin sister, Wren is looking for independence, Cath is slightly terrified of her roommate, and the dining hall is confusing. More importantly, she has to finish her fanfic, Carry On, Simon, before the final book in the Gemma T. Leslie series is released. Follow Cather in the first of a four part series, as she stumbles her way through learning there is more to the world that Simon Snow.

I wanted badly to like this book, but it was just not for me.

I've tried a few times and I'm excited every time I see the cover. It's Rainbow Rowell --how can I not love it!?

Let me just say that I love the art and the style. Choosing to do this in manga style was the right way to go, especially considering the popularity of that specific medium these days. Just excellent. There's something in the translation from the book to this graphic novel that is slipping through and making it hard for me to like. That doesn't mean it's a bad book by any means, but it is just not for me.

Maybe if I were 15 years younger I would have gripped on to this and chewed through it with a voracious speed that only teenagers can do. Alas, it evades me.

I received an arc from NetGalley for an honest review. I loved the original Fangirl books, and I am so happy they decided to do printing in the graphic novels.

Excerpt from a conversation about the book's topics:
Fangirl excels in digging into the stresses around adjusting to college life, sibling rivalry and distinction, dealing with anxiety and mental health (especially in relation to the twins’ dad), and balancing wanting to reach out to people while hanging on to what makes you... you.

I loved the original book and was a bit skeptical about it being turned into a manga. Overall, I liked the book and thought it was well done. The choice to end this vol as a cliffhanger was really smart because even though I had already the full story, I now want to read the second volume. I appreciated that they decided to make it black and white like a traditional manga but did switch the way you reader. It allows for new manga readers to have a slow introduction to the manga genre. My only issue with manga was that some of the expressions seems to intense...I am not sure if this is just due to the unique drawing style of manga or a choice by the artist.
