I loved the soft and colorful illustrations. This would be great for a mermaid or ocean themed story time because it is interactive.

I requested and received an e-ARC of this book from Suzanne Diederen and Clavis Publishing in exchange for my honest opinion.

I love the rhyming text in this book, I found myself sing-talking the whole book as each page had a great rhythm. The illustrations were fun and cute. You can never have too many counting books.

We read this one tonight at bedtime & I already know I’ll be buying a copy of this title to keep forever. My daughter believes she IS a mermaid, so this adorable book was a must. Adorable illustration with colors that caught her eye, we loved practicing her counting with some of our favorite sea creatures!

The Mermaid Counting Book, by Suzanne Diederen, is whimsical and charming. The art is simple but sweet, and the young child mermaid is especially adorable. The rhymes are clever and it has a surprisingly sweet ending. This is a perfectly lovely addition to any kid's library.

Thanks to NetGalley and Clavis Publishing for the ARC!

A delightful book for younger readers learning to count. The pastel coloured illustrations are enchanting. Easily a 5/5 star read for little ones.

The Mermaid Counting Book is a sweet, lovely little book with cute rhymes that all scan well and remain on theme for the mermaid's undersea adventure. The illustrations are the real star - they're beautiful, cozy, comforting, and memorable, depicting real personality in all the marine creatures that Umi the young mermaid encounters. A charming, sweet little book ideal for a toddler and parent or other adult to snuggle up together to read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Clavis Publishing for the advance review copy!

Dude. I can’t with how cute this book is. Yeah, another counting book, whatever. No! Not whatever. So. Cute. It’s a pretty straight forward format for a picture book. It has objects to count. Things rhyme, but the art really makes it. It’s perfect for reinforcing counting learning (up to 10), and there’s plenty of adorable sea creatures to spot. Also, mermaids are the best, so there’s that.

It’s out in October, and if I had a little one, we would definitely own this book. I’ll just have to settle for recommending it to my mini patrons if ever they can come back in the library again.

This is a great book for teaching and learning new vocabulary! I can see myself reading it to my daughter with her curled up in my lap. I also like that the author used varying prepositions. Great vocabulary and counting book!

I read this with my toddler and he really enjoyed it! He pointed at all the pictures we were counting and practiced saying the numbers with me

A cute little number book using the popular mermaid/under the sea theme. The little mermaid, Umi sees lots of familiar things on her little journey under the sea, 6 little fish and 3 white pearls. The story is written in a cute sing song rhyming verse. The illustrations are watercolor in pretty muted colors. I think this could be a popular counting book for little children.

I was so ready to give this one a high rating for about 90% of the book. Loved the artwork and cute sealife counting opportunities. I was willing to overlook the fact that some of the rhyme scheme/rhythm was a little clunky. But I can't overlook my pet peeve in counting books - when you get to number 10 it's just ten kisses that aren't represented in any visual way! That's not how this is supposed to go!

The illustrations are so cute and adorable!
Counting books are a big hit with the younger children. I would enjoy reading this book during circle time. I especially like books with a rhyming aspect as it keeps the children engaged in the story. Also, rhyming helps in language development.
Enjoyable counting book while exploring the wonders of the ocean.
Thank you to NetGallery, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read and review this book for my honest opinion.

Apart from the hiccup of not telling us from the off our main character is called "Umi" (the original title told us that, and that she counts to ten), this is a pretty decent book. It's geared probably towards baby ladies and not small lads, but it's not all twee and feminine – the decorative, watercolour artworks that fill each double-page spread focus on underwater life, so could be just about gender neutral. Again, there's a bit of a raised question mark as it sort of features a plot where the young mermaid gets separated from her mother, but we don't see that or perhaps even realise it's happened. Instead, however, we do get a great set of rhyming couplets that guide us to learn our first ten numbers, and that's all well and good. Such counting books are not unique, but this certainly has a distinctive quality about it – I wish it well.

Cute story and a great counting book for little kids!
Some of the rhymes were a little off, and the seahorses looked a little round, but other than that, an adorable book that I could see on many shelves.

This book was cute! I think young readers will enjoy listening to the adults in their life read it to them. The art is adorable and I liked that little Umi had a "shirt" (or scales that went up to her torso?) instead of the standard mermaid shell bra, which her mom did have. It made her look younger and more like the age she was supposed to be. The rhyming structure is nice and the different under-the-sea items which Umi counts are varied. The Mermaid Counting Book is a fun board book option if looking for a book for young children which counts from one to ten with more language in it than many counting books for the same age.

A cute little rhyming counting book about a mermaid exploring the ocean and counting what she sees along the way. Great for little ones learning language and numbers.
