The Good Neighbour by R.J. Parker is just the fast-paced, high energy, and engrossing read that I needed at this busy time of year. You will want to devour this one in a single sitting, so do plan accordingly.

Leah Talbot is on her way home one night when she hits a deer. She is unscathed, but the same cannot be said for either the deer or her car. Approaching the nearest house, Leah rings the doorbell hoping for assistance and is greeted by Martin Tate who seems only too happy to oblige, offering the use of his phone and an umbrella. The two share a few awkward moments, and then Leah is on her way. But when she returns to the house the next day to offer Martin a bottle of wine as thanks for his help, she finds herself at a crime scene where the sole occupant of the home has been found murdered. What follows is a cat and mouse game that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

This was a riveting read from beginning to end. The tension and suspense is palpable throughout, and while Leah's actions are, admittedly, cringe-worthy at times, they do not detract in any way from the fun of it all. 4.5 stars

Many thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for this ARC.

This is very quick read and is fast-paced. Because of that though, we don't go too in-depth with the characters. The premise is interesting and I liked the ending.

Kindly received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This could have been a creepy, exciting thriller instead it was far fetched garbage. The author must think the reader is stupid or forgetful as the most dull happenings are repeated chapter after chapter, how many times does the smell of dead deer need to be used as a description?. It should have been a short story not a novel , I think that’s why the story became so silly, with so many pages to fill. I cannot honestly recommend this and I can’t understand why no one mentioned the repetitive nature and the unbelievable story when it was sent to publishers. Lazy writing and silly ideas do not make a thriller.

Thank you to Harper Collins and NetGalley for the advanced copy.

While I love a good psychological thriller, I often find books in this genre being with too slow or with a really lame ending. The Good Neighbour by R.J Parker, is neither of these things. Diving right into the action on page 1, this book leads you to never wanting to put it down.I loved the writing style, the short chapters, and the plot as a whole. I could not recommend this book enough.

After hitting a deer with her car, a badly shaken Leah Talbot goes looking for help at a lone house on a deserted stretch of road near her home. Martin Tate answers the door and he couldn’t be more helpful, kind and charming. The next day, drawn by a desire to see Tate again, Leah drives back to his home, noly to have police answer the door. The woman who lives at the residence has been murdered, and Martin is nowhere to be seen. Did Leah interrupt a murder? And Is Martin going to be looking for her to make sure she keeps her mouth shut, for good? This is a dynamite thriller, wholly original and impossible to put down

Not for me. I was drawn in by the cover. I should have researched a little bit about the author because I soon realized I have not been able to get into any books by R.J. I gave up very fast. Nothing to draw me in or keep me there. Tried skimming ahead a few times to farther in the book and still couldn't get into it.

I really enjoyed this book it has kind of a different plot. I was immediately sucked into the narrative. I would call it a psychological thriller. I highly recommend it

Richard J Parker returns with his latest addictive thriller which is the captivating tale of how a ordinary woman, after innocently knocking on the door of a isolated house finds herself caught up in the twisted mind games of a charming but narcissistic killer.

Leah Talbot's life is not a happy one,her marriage to her husband Elliot in on the rocks and her beloved father's brain and memories are being destroyed by dementia. And now, after a accident involving a wet road and a deer, Leah has found herself being tormented by some sick psycho who keeps killing innocent people and manipulating Leah's movements to ensure that she finds herself at the crime scenes. I really liked Leah, she was a feisty, strong willed, loyal individual who's life was over shadowed by a tragic incident in her past.A tragedy that she was constantly being reminded of due to her father's dementia. It is a really horrible affliction and one that I honestly live in fear of as I get older. The author's depictions of Leah's father's confusion and reactions were very realistic and some of the interactions between the two character's were heart breaking. I can't say that I thought Elliot was a very likeable character for various reasons. And as for the killer omg that guy was seriously creepy, he was so chillingly sinister and manipulative. His attempts to brainwash Leah reminded me of Julie's conversion scene for the iconic tv mini series V. I can definitely say, with absolute certainty that he is my number one bad guy of this year.

I really really love Richard J Parker's brilliant thrillers and The Good Neighbour was no exception. It's extremely well written, hooks the reader in from the first page, keeps you glued to your kindle and frantically turning the pages. Once I started reading it,I couldn't put it down and I read the whole book in one sitting. It's not a twist packed story but the plot does contain a number of unexpected suprises. I would love to watch a film adaptation of one of this talented author's extremely outstanding thrillers. Worth all the stars and more and very very highly recommended.
