A really enjoyable page turner ! It was a short read with short chapters that ended on a cliffhanger that made you just want to read ‘one more chapter!’ A really gripping original storyline! Will definitely read more by this author

Oh my one of the creepiest opening chapters of a book I have ever read - I had to put the light on!
Great storyline, great characters and very well written - scary and I need another book by this author - I think I have a new favourite

Leah accidentally hits a deer with her car on a country road on her way home. Her phone is dead so she goes to a house nearby to use their phone to call the police. The man who answered the door is charming.

Leah goes back the next day to thank him and there are police everywhere. A crime has been committed.

I really enjoyed this book.It was action-packed, fast-paced, and had some great twists. Very easy read and addictive. I will definitely be reading more of his books.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an ARC to review.

I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher through netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This book is well written and the characters are described well. I really enjoyed the characters Leah and her neighbors Mr. and Mrs Trent. I absolutely enjoyed this thriller, it has all the twists and turns it needs. It will keep you on the edge of your seat from the first page. I absolutely enjoyed this authors writing style. It is very fast paced and thrilling. This book is in stores for CA$3.99 (CAD).

EEEKKKK! This book kept me wondering what the heck is going to happen next almost the entire time! I probably enjoyed being dropped into the mind of a serial killer a little too much...

Most of the book is seen from the perspective of Leah Talbot, a normal-ish woman whose marriage to Elliot Talbot has been over for years now, yet she can't let go. She still holds out hope that things will work out despite him telling her years ago he no longer loves her and they've been sleeping in separate bedrooms. Valentine's night, she crashes her car and has to walk to find a phone to call for help.

On the way towards her village, she notices lights on in a home she'd never before. The house has always been blocked by a set of large gates, which blocked the entrance. When she approaches the gates, they're unlocked so she walks on through, hoping the owners of the home will allow her to use their phone. She's greeted by a good samaritan, Martin Tate, who invites her in and isn't the least bit upset at Leah interrupting his late-night dinner. He lets her clean up in his bathroom and calls the police for her. He calls AA to come get her and her car from the road and offers to let her wait until they arrive. But something she can't quite understand makes her uncomfortable waiting alone with Martin and she goes outside, despite the rain, to wait. He graciously lends her his umbrella though.

The next morning, Leah decides to bring a thank you present to Martin. But instead of enjoying pleasant conversation with the intriguing man she met the previous night, she's greeted by homicide detectives - the owner of the home was murdered sometime during the night.

While Leah assumes the murderer killed Martin, it turns out no man lived in the home. The owner was a woman who was brutally murdered before Leah even arrived at the home after her crash... so who had let her in???

Could she be the next victim???

As if that beginning isn't enough to keep you on the edge of your seat, everything that happens next made it almost impossible for me to put this book down as I sped through it as fast as I could!! And the ending... I NEVER SAW IT COMING and my stomach dropped like I was on a real-life rollercoaster!

Definitely recommend reading this one!!!

Thank you to NetGalley and One More Chapter for the review e-copy in exchange for my honest opinion!

How many times have we thought about knocking on a strangers door for help. I know I have. And I know it will never cross my mind again!!

The entire book had me feeling anxious from start to finish. I felt so anxious for Leah the main character that I felt like I was the character in the book.

This was one crazy rollercoaster ride of a read, always wondering what will come next. Who will be next and if he will ever let her be free.

An absolutely amazing read that I will be highly recommending.

This was really really good!! The biggest thing I look for in a thriller is whether it’s immediately predictable and whether or not I’m compelled to keep reading. This was definitely not predictable and I couldn’t put it down!!! Would definitely recommend this to anyone who needs a thrill or to get out of a reading slump

I would rate this book 2.75 out of 5 stars.

I was so interested in this premise but this book had way too many issues for me - it makes ZERO why the main character wouldn't confide in the police, the characters were underdeveloped, the villain's motives were weak and the ending lacked punch.

I was fortunate to receive a copy of this ARC from Harper Collins One More Chapter and NetGalley.

The book starts with a situation no one, particularly women, want to face. A car breakdown and no mobile service or battery. Would you knock on a stranger's door if desperate in that situation? This book certainly makes you think about it!
Then things start to get weird. And weirder!

My favourite quote:
"Bruises of grief and anger that were always there began to ache again."

A fast-paced, gripping, easy to read, cat and mouse chase thriller! Bonus over the fact that the chapters are pretty short which is always a win.

The story is a cat and mouse game between the two main characters, Leah and Martin. The tension and the suspense is evident throughout and I found myself saying 'ah just one more chapter won't hurt' which led to me getting through the book at such speed!

I did find that when I get to the halfway point I slowly felt some of the suspense slowly fade with the storyline being dragged out in some way. I think I would've given this book a slightly higher rating if it was cut a bit shorter.

I also struggled to like the main character. Leah made the most questionable decisions (I suppose that's the point of the book though) that made absolutely no sense in the real world.

For me this was an okay thriller, it had its twists and turns but I felt as though the writing could have been improved in many ways.

Thank you, NetGalley, HarperCollinsUK and R.J. Parker for a copy of this arc in exchange for an honest review!

It’s a dark rainy night when Leah collides with an animal which sets off a series of events when the charming man who answers the door of the cottage isn’t what he seems. This started off really well and I was gripped by it instantly but that grip loosened considerably the more I read. Leah behaved like an imbecile and I didn’t like her or the increasingly stupid decisions she made. As for that ending - erm no, pity it wasn’t slightly different! This could have been a really great book but for me only mediocre sadly.

I'm pretty new to the horror genre and this was a great one to start with. From the first few pages setting up the story to the ending that at stages had my eyes open incredibly wide I loved it.

A Fantastic villain, well written characters and every womans nightmare of breaking down in the dark alone this was a great read.

When neighbors meet during an unexpected event, sparks fly. I found the premise of the car wreck and the aftermath to just be odd and just overall creepy. I really struggled with the character of Leah. I do not go for the doormat women that are oblivious to what is going on in their lives and settle for whatever life deals out. This just screams that a man wrote this. The damsel in distress is very played out and is horribly cliche. I did not understand the initial contact which made the book hard to become invested in from the beginning. I did not understand why the main character did what she did although the suspense and creepiness was there. The police were just off asleep somewhere. This is not plausible in a murder in a prestige neighborhood. Thanks for the ARC, NetGalley. This one fell a bit flat.

This started off strong, and I was truly invested. Then it devolved into repetitious craziness, which was not only implausible, but silly.

This was an enjoyable thriller.

The beginning was very similar to another thriller I read. However, the plot took a different course.

I would have enjoyed it more if the relationship between Leah and her husband was more developed. It would have been nice to understand their marriage and her reactions.

Leah's character made multiple stupid decisions which were frustrating. Overall the book was engaging enough to keep me reading.

There were a lot of unnecessary graphic Gorey details throughout the book. You will have many disturbing visions that are hard to get out of your head. I think it is easier to skim over it when you are reading as opposed to listening to an audiotape.

I received this galley from NetGalley.

I loved the plot on this book . It started off fast and then went into a bit of a lull in the middle. I found the main character a bit frustrating which influenced my rating.

I don’t know why but I just wasn’t about this book. I really just didn’t understand the point. Must suspend all belief for this book and then some.
