I'm so excited about this book. A graphic novel about friends and video games?! This is perfect for our reluctant readers. We don't have a lot of class visits right now because of covid, but I know that when we do, this is the book that the kids will be fighting over who gets to check it out.

Very appealing to gamers and a great example of diverse representation in graphic novels for young readers.

I haven't read a book like this before which was really interesting. I enjoyed seeing the characters both in their game worlds and in real life and seeing how they interact in both environments. There were some times when I thought it was a dragging a bit, but overall it was a good book that I think my students will really enjoy and relate to.
I was given #powerup from #netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was really nice and I can definitely see the appeal for young readers. This would be a great classroom addition for 3rd grade and up.

A story of two young gamers who find out that their best friend was under their noses all along. Realistic childhood experiences such as bullying, too much screen time add authenticity to this tale. Great artwork that distinguishes between the world of the game & the real world.

I loved the mixture of computer animation and traditional pencilled art in Power Up by Sam Nisson. The book is eye-catching, colorful, and full of adventure -- in other words, an ideal addition to an upper elementary or middle grades classroom shelf, and also enjoyable for older readers (and gamers at any age). Very entertaining and well done!

My 10 year son old read this book with me and he enjoyed it. He says that "the beginning was good but the middle was not the best because they were so mean to other people in the book but it cheered up in the end, which was great." He is excited that there is going to be a second book and told me that I better look for it so he can read it.

This graphic novel was like a throwback in time, learning about the wiles of life as a preteen as you hung out, exploring life’s battles thru friendship woes, peer pressure and robot video game battles. Fun read about life and friendship.

This book was received as an ARC from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Children's Book Group - Etch/HMH Books for Young Readers in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

I could not help but love this book in the science fiction aspect of video games and tournaments. The artwork was completely flawless and breathtaking that I could not help but not take my eyes off of the story throughout the entire book. The dialogue was so intelligently addicting that I know our young minds will love this book and if they loved video games before they'll love them even more now. I know this will do very well in our graphic novel collection and will be a favorite for sure.

We will consider adding this title to our Graphic Novel collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
