It’s more a repeat for narratives, but the writing does hold a smidge of goodness in the clunk of it all.
Would be considered to retry authors other works as the concept sounded good just wish execution was done a bit better for following and stretching the narrative vs muffling it

A very enchanting story about saving the lives of loved ones and how two very different people joininh forces might be exactly what's needed. Slow on romance, full on action, this was plenty entertaining and it really had me turning pages to see just how it was going to continue. The characters were truly lovely and the side characters, too. Every character brought a lot to the story making it very easy and fun to read, even with heavier topics that didn't make the story dark, but they were still topics that were nice to read about and see how they were going to do about them.

This ARC was sent to me a long time ago and I thought I had already written and published the review. It's overall a good book, has a hooking plot and amazing characters. I'k so sorry it took me this long to realise I hadn't sent the review to the author. But I am hoping to read more of your works in the future and be able to enjoy them as much as I've enjoyed Lava Red Feather Blue.

I'd like to begin by thanking Central Avenue Publishing abd NetGalley. I was provided an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I wanted to love this book. In theory, it was right up my alley. Unfortunately the narrative beats were clumsy at the best of times, and the pacing was abysmally slow. The writing itself was lyrical and well written. However, my enjoyment of the book was hindered by the often repetitive narrative. The author, unfortunately, succumbs to the common pitfall of "tell, don't show." The fact that key lore and plot points - particularly surrounding the function of the magic system - are frequently re-explained to the reader was jarring at best, and frustrating, at worst.

The synopsis failed to mention that this is a modern fantasy. Larkin is from the 1700s. Historical fiction/period romances aren't my cup of tea, and, had I known that that was essentially what this novel is, I wouldn't have requested the ARC. The additional retelling of Slerping Beauty is so minor that it feels irrelevant to the plot overall.

Additionally, while I love a good slow burn romance, there's such a thing as too slow. The characters felt flat and one dimensional, and had little to no chemistry. Because neither MCs were compelling - both felt interchangeable- it was difficult to become invested in either, much less care about the romance.

I appreciate the rich workdbuilding and the tactics and sensitivity in which LGBT issues are addressed, but unfortunately, this was a hard miss for me, based on the above factors.

There was so much promise, the synopsis sounded so great. I was thoroughly bored the entire time I was reading.

I'm not much of a romance reader so this did impair my enjoyment. This would have worked for many readers but I'm not one of them.

Queer urban fantasy tales are exactly what the world needs more of now, some diversified escapism might help folks see each other’s perspectives in better focus and if not that - it’s a great way to pass the time.
A good supernatural follow-up for fans of “ The Ruthless Lady's Guide to Wizardry”
Pick it up for the enchanting cover and stay for the enchantments within.

Enjoyable and with very fun world building re: the magic system. Heartwarming, fun, and tense at times. Deeply enjoyed reading this one.

What a charming queer fantasy book! I find it hard to find one's I truly enjoy, but LRFB was a treat. Even though the characters definitely didn't get the same 2020 as we did (lucky them!), it was still a really good blend of our reality, and a Fae society living somewhere in the Pacific. I really loved Merrick's family friends, and the slow burn! Whoa! I liked the romance enough that the bittersweet ending made me a bit sad. Still, I would defs recommend it!

I started reading this book and found that it was not for me. I didn't think it was right to review a book that I didn't finish.

Honestly? I wish I loved this book but it just didn't do it for me. Felt to much like a romance novel and not a sleeping beauty retelling (which is why I had picked it up in the first place)

What a fantastic start to 2022 Reading.
Absolutely LOVED this.

Molly Ringle is an exceptionally talented world builder and everything is just so fresh, original and familiar all at the same time. There was nothing too out there that meant we couldn't recognise or visualise it but at the same time it felt so unique.

I adored Merrick and Larkin.

I also really loved there wasn't any side stories...its very unusual in a book to just have the primary story...and that's what we had here. We followed Merrick and Larkin...there was no switching between storylines, no flashbacks, no following other characters. We just followed their story and this worked brilliantly. It gave us a chance to get to know them and also follow their fears as we didn't have any more importation than they did.

This was a very brave choice by the author and I can honestly say, it worked and really what a fantastic choice she made!

It took me a while to get my head around faery and witches and this whole new world but just by carrying on reading it all clicked into place and was thoroughly enjoyable.

The journey they go on feels magical and special and loved being part of it. The perfume and the poetry fit it all so well.

It's a book you need to experience for yourselves. Definitely jump into Eidolonia...its worth it!

Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I received an eARC from the publishers through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. It has not affected my opinions.

I had high hopes for this book, but it took me awhile to get through it, cause it didnt capture me and I had to lay it away and read something else instead. At periodes it was interesting but then it just dragged out and got really boring. And the ending was abit rushed and just too typical for my liking.

but i still felt entertainted even though it took me awhile to get through it, there for my rating.

Lava Red Feather Blue by Molly Ringle is a pleasant little book about a half-fae young man, Merrick, who accidentaly wakes up a sleeping prince, Larkin. Larkin's 200 year long slumber was an element of a spell keeping a very dangerous fae away from human lands.

The book is about their quest to defeat the dangerous fae once again and therefore it's easy to predict how it ends. A little exposition-heavy at first, it does get very interesting. The rules of the world are consistent, which is also a big plus in fantasy books, but I think love saves the main characters from danger a bit too often. I also felt that certain themes were underused. Human authorities were generally portrayed as greedy and taking away from the fae (here representing nature and the environment), but in the end, it's still humans who won, so... I feel like there was supposed to be an environmental message somewhere there that got lost in translation.

All in all, a pleasant read for long winter days.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Lava Red Feather Blue weaves a tale of sleeping princes, a fae realm woven with a human one, and overcoming one's own prejudice. Merrick Highvalley is a half fae boy who walks on thin ice when it comes to his magic. When he mistakenly wakes a human prince and in turn an evil fae bent on conquering humanity, Merrick must face not only his own mistakes but those of his ancestors. Will he be able to right enough wrongs to keep humanity safe? Or will this threat allure Merrick to their side?

This was a hidden gem of a book. The author makes a great epic with plenty of danger and consequences to dealing with the fae. Often in today's young adult the fae are tamed and romanticized, but these fae are those you hear warnings about. Time as well has consequences when spent with the fae and curses are a looming possibility. Lava Red Feather Blue gives a full cast of well thought out and developed characters, none were put in as filler or a second thought. The pacing and action were woven throughout but didn't make the story solely about violence or romance at any point. There were those who were anti-fae and anti-human, some who overcame their prejudice and others who let their hatred consume them. In such a politically charged world this was a beacon of hope that portrays change and acceptance, while showing that change isn't always in the cards.

Five stars and a heavy recommendation from this reviewer. Age range of 14+ as there is some romance but nothing overly descriptive. LGBTQ+ friendly for all and no trigger warnings as all of the tough topics are handled with care.

This book was really interesting and a concept was something I have never read before. I enjoyed reading the book, although I thought it lost its way in the middle and the ending was a little rushed. I am looking forward to reading more from this author

First of all can we take a minute to enjoy and appreciate what a beautiful cover this book has? 5/5 on that department.!

A sleeping beauty retelling with the main couple being M/M and fairy lore thrown in between, the concept is as intriguing as it sounds. Sadly it took a bit of time for me to get into the story, the pacing was a bit weird and slow at the beginning and I personally couldnt connect with the characters. }

I enjoyed the story as a whole and found that even if I couldnt connect, the way the story is told is fun and entertaingin. The most interesting part was seeing the prince interacting with the modern world,! so much fun.

Altho not a perfect story it certainly gets extra points for being an LGBTQ story that doesnt make that the center theme and where the characters are just who they are with out their sexuality being the onlhy motivation behind anything!!

overall: an enjoyable story!

I would like to extend my gratitude to the author, publisher and NetGalley for sending this advanced reader's copy in return for a fair and honest review.

I am fairly new to fantasy books. I chose this book for that reason, and it was okay. Characters okay, plot ok, but it fell flat for me. It was like a rewritten fairy tale, but it didn’t improve the original. It was very slow and didn’t make me want to read it in one go. It dealt with LGBTQ issues sensitively. I don’t have anything really bad to say as it didn’t evoke any emotion in me at all.
