Wasn't fully invested in this one. The detectives home life was more interesting than the case they were investigating. Still looking forward to the next one though.

Just always delivers, this is another great thriller from possibly the most prolific writer on the planet but he sells because his stories and characters grip and this one is no exception.

#DeadlyCross #NetGalley I love all James Patterson books and this Alex Cross series in particular. By book 28 in the series you would think that it might be losing its pull but that is absolutely not the case. With 3 plots unfolding, this books keeps your interest high with some sad and poignant moments along the way. I love the fact that it is not 'just' a crime novel but you get involved in Alex's personal family life and I love hearing about Bree, Ali, Jannie and Nana Mama. Another great installment in this series and I cant wait for number 29!!

Another exciting instalment from Alex Cross. This is the only series from Patterson I never feel let down by.

The story itself was exciting and had me gripped to the end. However a real attraction with this series is following Alex's home life and his family.

As always with this series, roll on the next one.

Absolutely brilliant.

The plot was fast paced, full of twists and turns that kept you hooked til the very last page.

Some parts were totally heartbreaking.

I love catching up with Alex, Bree, Nana Mama and the rest of the family.

Looking forward to the next one.

Another brilliant book from James Patterson. So many ups and down and one of his greatest Alex Cross books. A book that created many emotions in me. Lots of twists and turns and a real page turner. Also probably one of the saddest ones so far - it had me crying at times.

Book 28! Now, before I even start my review let’s just take a moment to appreciate just how outstanding that is for an author, any author! Especially as they’ve written many more besides.

This is my second James Patterson novel, but my first Alex Cross. Patterson has such a quality and depth to his writing. It’s impossible not to believe that his characters and the events that surround them aren’t true life.

This particular story didn’t ‘do it’ for me, I’m not sure whether that’s because I’m entering a series 28 books in? Or because I just happened across the one Alex Cross novel that wasn’t Patterson’s best?

The beginning was brilliant! It has me hooked and I was really enjoying ‘meeting’ Alex Cross. But after the initial incident was discovered I felt this book was more family drama than crime fiction novel. A lot of the book is spent describing his family dinners, personal relationships and attending funerals. I felt like I was starting each chapter thinking ‘now it’s going to get pacy! Now it’s going to start getting investigative! Now we’re going to see how brilliant Dr Cross is at his job’ but unfortunately he just kept deviating or someone pivotal to the plot just suddenly dies.

I’d love to read more Patterson as I truly love his style of thematic writing but sadly this particular novel didn’t float my boat.

Thanks to NetGalley for my advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

James Patterson gives us another chance to catch up with Alex Cross. It always feels as though we are meeting a family member again and spending some time together. We have to share some difficult moments in this book. We also enjoy the reassuring presence of Nana Mama and the aromas of her delicious cooking floating throughout the house. But, of course, we embark with Alex on solving some really nasty cases. Here, what starts as the murder of a school headmaster and the wife of the Vice President is definitely not what it seems at first, Many trails crisscross this story: people shot, remote forests and law offices in Alabama, psychiatric hospitals, girls abductions and so much more, Alex, Bree and their friends and colleagues have to do a lot of running around while the truth is just under their nose, but springs on them at the end. I enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to catching up with Alex again before too long.
Thank you to NetGalley, Cornerstone and James Patterson for the privilege of reading this book on an advance readers copy.

Deadly Cross – Another Patterson Classic

When Patterson is on familiar ground with familiar characters, even though murder is involved, it is like reading a thriller comfort blanket. You may know what you will get, Alex Cross the victorious investigator in the end. But that never detracts from the writing or the story, Cross being the best in the business is a happy coincidence.

When the glamourous ex-wife of the Vice-President, and a school principal are found murdered in the back of her car, on school grounds, so starts a tale of corruption, lies and any attempt at murder possible. While there is a side-story of an ongoing investigation that Cross, and his partner also need to complete.

The side-story is a race against time to solve a serial killer who has the habit of kidnaping females and then murdering them at a later date. This investigation almost collides with Cross’ socialite murder case.

During the investigations, tragedy strikes Cross’ friend and colleague, when his wife dies due to heart disease brought about by lymes disease. Alex Cross manages to step up for his friends and colleague, whilst keeping the investigation on track.

While other investigators may be thrown off course by the various events that happen around Washington DC, it does not bother Cross, who will successfully lead the investigations to a conclusion. Then he can head off and be a family man once again with his children and wife.

This was the 1st Alex Cross book I've read in forever and it didn't disappoint!
I found it an easy and fast read with lots of sidestreets that all joined up in the end to give you a well-rounded story. I liked the backstories of all the different characters and found them well developed.
A big thumbs up from me!

When the Vice President’s ex wife Kay Willingham is found murdered in her Bentley alongside a man in the grounds of a private school,it becomes a media sensation, and the hunt for the killer on. On request of the Vice President Alex Cross is put on the case, with his partner John Sampson. While Alex looks in to the ex wife’s movements, Sampson looks at the man and soon discovers he is the former head of the school.
At the same time they investigate a missing girl case that intwines itself very closely with their main investigation.
From DC to Alabama Alex Cross will have to be at his brilliant best to catch a killer before time runs out.
James Patterson shows again why he’s the master of the detective novel. The Alex Cross books continue to be the gold standard of this genre and Deadly Cross is as good as it gets. To quote Harlan Coben, “Alex Cross is a legend. A very fine piece of writing by the best around. I loved it.”

You’re not going to read this if you’re new to the Alex across series but I will say if you had given up on the series because it was a bit too factory rollout then this is the book to get back into it.
Yes there is more family and life drama than the books at the beginning but this is getting back to the crime more so and a little less about Alex Cross and amazing he is. (Don’t get me wrong it’s still there just in smaller doses).
This book hopefully is the beginning of an upward arc of the series because it had seriously hit a low!
This instalment brings in a few cases, all seemingly separate from each other until Cross pulls on those threads and finds them all tangled together.
It would’ve been much better in my opinion if the book had gone more in depth on just one of the cases and maybe used the missing girls as a separate book and storyline, it felt a bit too much like a supporting role and really didn’t need to be.

The Alex Cross series is one of my absolute favourites and the 28th instalment is no exception !!

Alex Cross returns with a double murder, both the victims are well known to him, and he has no time to lose to find the murderer. Alex works closely with his good friend FBI agent Mahoney but Sampson and Bree are not to far away.

At first it is thought the killing was as a result of an extra marital affair but Alex has his doubts ........ and we all know that Alex will leave no stone unturned to find the truth.

As always there is plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing, right until the final pages. The Cross and Sampson families are also heavily involved in the book and tragedy strikes but everyone pulls together to get through as well as solve the latest case. If you are a fan of Alex Cross you will absolutely love this book and if not, then get reading the whole series - you won’t be disappointed!!

Thank you to Random House UK, Cornerstone and NetGalley for a digital copy of this book.
