I found this to be an amazing and interesting read! And the cover is so lovely!! Looking forward to the author's next story!

A wonderfully immersive adventure that will have you thinking about the supermarket as a whole new magical place. Seriously at first I was a bit 'meh' about the premise of an enchanted supermarket, but quickly fell into the tale and really enjoyed it. Very fast paced - read it cover to cover in a couple of hours and a great read for kids. I would recommend making sure your kids know the Sleeping Beauty and Hansel & Gretel fairytales first as they will get more out of it. Needed a little more magic for me as an adult reader and I would have liked a bit more depth to the characters.

Unfortunately, the book was archived the day I was approved to read this. As a result, I couldn't read or review this title. I hope to be able to read a copy at some point in the future. It sounds like a fantastic book for children.

This was an enchanting book full of whimsy and I love the take on the inclusion of different fairytales whilst still keeping it fresh and exciting. A first-class book.

A new supermarket appears overnight and all the adults are drawn to it by it’s weird and wonderful offers. Lana, disappointed by her brother Harrison growing up, finds a portal to a magical world and lands herself in a darker, more grim fairytale. She needs all the help she can get to save Briar Rose from the evil witch.

A simple premise and one that I love. Magical worlds and retellings of fairy tales are some of my favourite stories and this one did not disappoint. The pace was quick and the fairy tale was dark and more reminiscent of the Grimm’s fairy tale as it was meant to be. I enjoyed the dark undertones in a children’s book and feel that kids will enjoy this too.

Lana was a likeable main character and I felt her plight when she wanted her brother to believe her and join her too. The bickering between the two was enjoyable to read and I can see children identifying with the pair of them as they read the story.

Overall, this was a fun and quick easy read that I am sure many children will enjoy.

At a time where going to the supermarket has become THE excitement of the week, what could be better that a story featuring a supermarket that acts as a portal to a fairytale world?
Watch me push every door in my local supermarket, juuust in case - you never know, you might end up in Wonderland while buying a tuna sandwich.

But enough joking, let's get to the review.
You see, I usually classify children's book in two different categories: they're either ones that can purely be fully enjoyed by children, or they're ones that adults will absolutely love. In that last category are books like Pages & Co, which are really enjoyable and funny no matter your age.

The Day I Fell Into a Fairytale, however, ends up in the first category in my opinion. It's a lot of fun, and I'm certain that kids aged 9-11 will love it (what's not to love about Ben Miller's books when you're that age?!) but adults will find it just a touch too simple and lacking that magical something that purely amazes kids and grown-ups alike.

So if I had to sum up my opinion of this book in a couple of words, it would be : fun and cute, but I'm too old for it (argh, it hurts to write that down!). I found it too predictable and too similar to other books I'd read. The writing was also a bit simplistic – no doubt that it's accessible for the age range it's targeted to, though.

I'm really happy that I got to read it, despite my previous comments. It's a really charming idea to write books for each of your children, and I'm sure they must be very proud!

This story had elements of so many fairytales cleverly woven together. I enjoyed making the links to the traditional versions. The characters of Lana and Harrison are likable and children will easily be able to relate to them. Children will also love the portal between our world and the fairytale world and the character Rumpolt and his many different disguises who acts as a guide with an agenda.

The Day I Fell Into a Fairytale feels like a return to a childhood favourite, all the whilst knowing you’re reading a modern twist. The characters are all favourites but we are privy to parts of their story we haven’t met before all intermingled in a nice lesson about adults and their busy lives.
I truly didn’t see the twist in this, I really didn’t see what was going to happen and as someone who knows their fairytales fairly well I thoroughly enjoyed being surprised!

The Day I Fell into a Fairytale plunges you right into that world. What an incredibly good start it has with a possible molehill. I say possible because it isn’t just an ordinary molehill. There’s an energy within the words chosen and how they are written that builds faster and faster as the molehill grows and grows until you fall into a fantastic, enchanting fairytale land with Lana.

Lana lives in Little Hilcot and has a brother – Harrison, whom she views as a bit too serious since being in senior school and hitting the books to study oxbow lakes, Archimedes and more, when all she wants to do is go on adventures. Later she needs to go to Grimms, a supermarket, with her family and buys a book of fairytales, which become a bedtime story. The fact that this becomes a peculiar version of fairytales where art is almost imitating life, like a character seeming to be a person she has seen before, makes this even more curious. It turns out that Lana hasn’t ever heard of the fairy tales, some of which you can read about within the book itself.

It is magical and mystical and a lot of fun as readers land into fairytales with banquets of the most delicious food and a tuneful robin, where the adventure really begins. It’s so easy to get lost in this book, as I put on my childhood brain. If you’ve been brought up on fairytales, they are all so recognisable within this story. It shows real thought and cleverness to bring them all together in a way that doesn’t rip them off or seem disingenuous. It’s impressive! You’ll meet the likes of Rumplestiltskin, Briar Rose, Sleeping Beauty, Hansel and Gretel and more of the Grimm’s fairy tales all spun together in a compelling tale that sweeps between that land and also the reality of the real world.

Look out for all the lovely illustrations of climbing roses and all that you could ever want in a pick ‘n’ mix and more… It just all adds to the fun of this beautiful, curious book that is so well written and hits the spot! There are twists and danger and mild trepidation as some characters are put into danger as good and evil exists.
There are expressed emotions and brotherly and sisterly care that is shown with warmth that children will also be able to relate to. It also demonstrates through story-telling that books, especially fairytales can ignite imaginations and a lot of new fun and adventures can be explored, even from the most normal, everyday places as the story goes between home, supermarket and the realm of imagination, created from a book of Grimm fairytales.

🌷In The Day I Fell into a Fairytale, Lana and Harrison are two bickering siblings who find the entrance to fairytale worlds in the pic-a-mix section of a magical supermarket. And there is also an evil witch with ruby red eyes- how cool is that!?!👸🏻

This is a short novel aimed at children for lower ages. It honestly only took me a few hours to read. And I enjoyed going into the world of Sleeping Beauty from the eyes of Ben Miller.

A lovely novel for children seeped in a bath of metaphors and smiles.

I loved this book. Great characters and a wonderful adventure. We all love a fairytale but to be apart of one makes the adventure exciting.

I liked this entertaining and well written story. It's a book that can be appreciated by adults and children as it's engrossing and enjoyable.

I enjoyed the blend of real life and fairytale fiction. Readers who are already familiar with the stories will enjoy the idea of playing around with the truth.

I love reading together with my 7 year old before bed, listening to her read with expression and excitement. Shes got to the age where she really enjoys it and after 6 months at home during lockdown, it has become our way to switch off before we head to the land of nod!

When Lana and her brother Harrison visit Grimm’s supermarket, they get more than they bargained for... A magic portal takes them into the heart of some classic stories and offers us a fresh perspective on our favourite fairytales.

I enjoyed this book. The intermingling of old stories with a new dynamic worked well and I enjoyed how Ben Miller cleverly linked different fairytales. I would recommend this story for readers aged 7 upwards. From a classroom perspective, it would work particularly well as part of a twisted fairytales unit.

The Day I Feel Into a Fairytale is apparently part of a loosely-linked series of books, which I had no knowledge of before beginning. I don't think it impacted my enjoyment or understanding in any way, though. The book, although fun, fast-paced and full of adventure, was missing some of the whimsy I anticipate from my middle grade reads. I'm sure this is a wonderful story for the age range it is aimed towards but somehow failed to fully capture my adult attention.

Lana and her family wake up one morning to find that a new supermarket has opened in town. No one seems to remember it being build though- where had it come from? And only one person seemed to work there, though only Lana noticed that. What was this place, who was the man and why was the book of fairy tales that she bought there supposed to be so scary? Lana sets out to discover and finds herself falling into another world- literally!

Lovely story for 7 - 9 year olds, and would make a great read-aloud for younger children also. Full of fun, adventure and a small dose of scary.

This is a different take on books with fairytales. Overnight, a new supermarket literally springs up from the ground and entices adults with its low prices and offers. However, Lana quickly discovers that there's much more to the store than meets the eye. In fact, she can delve into the world of fairytales through the tubs of pick & mix in the sweet aisle, all with the help of the timetable and the rather unusual man who works in the store. But be warned, there could be danger ahead.
With a host of fairytale characters, a good dollop of magic and an ending with just enough suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat, this is a great book to curl up with.
