It wasn't a horrible book but it was so slow I put it down several times to force myself to pick it back up so i could finish it. Now that I read it I do not see anything that stands out except a somewhat interesting story line but was not a suspenceful read for me at least.

Regi, not her real name, lives with her three student housemates in London. She is older than them and a mature student. She has OCD and a past. We get occasional glimpses of this in alternating chapters/sections of her past life and what she has been running from. In the present she often sees a man in a baseball cap and keeps getting telephone calls- she knows the number and doesn't answer them. We also know that she had a child and an abusive partner- but not what happened to either of them. She is now occupying her spare time refurbishing the summerhouse in the garden and following a cleaning woman on instagram- cleanstagram (new to me!) to try and ward off her OCD as the pictures posted are of wonderful tidy and clean rooms- something that is second nature to Regi. There is something oddly compelling about reading this and I couldn't help but feel for Regi. Her heart was in the right place and it was as if she was in search of something- something she didn't quite know what. A very different interesting read which I really enjoyed.

Thank You to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this ARC.
The House Mate by Nina Manning was an excellent read. I didn't want to stop reading this book. Regi, the main character, was very relatable and genuine. This book held my attention from the first page of the book and there were a few twist that I did not see coming at all. A big theme that I noticed was Regi's struggle with OCD. One of her housemates introduced her to an instagrammer named,Mrs. Clean, who helped her sort of "cope" with her OCD and other trauma. Her obsession with following Mrs. Clean and her attention to detail leads her down a path that she was not expecting. To be honest, there were a few confusing elements to this story especially towards the end of the book. Even so, I really enjoyed the book and would recommend it to anyone looking for a mystery/thriller.

I wanted so badly to love this book! While the storyline was enjoyable, I found her OCD to be very distracting....which I understand OCD is indeed distracting....the focus was just too heavy on it.

The House Mate is a slow-burn, good book. I was immediately drawn to Regi since she felt like a real person. The OCD Regi went through day-to-day was very realistic and I could almost feel the suffocation she’d feel at certain points in the book.

Regina is looking for a fresh start. She finds it in a house with 3 other women and a new course at the university. She is 35 and knows her OCD must seem strange to her house mates who are all in their early 20’s, but her arrangement and connection helps her feel almost like a normal person.

One day Mini introduces her to a new world on Instagram; ‘cleanstagram’. She immediately feels a pull to this new online world and is immediately drawn to one instagrammer in particular; Mrs. Clean. Her new obsession soon leads her on a journey she never expected. Perfection always comes with a price.

The House Mate will grab you and take you on a deep journey. The atmosphere is tense and I was always waiting for the last piece to fall into place. To be honest. I was a bit confused by the last couple chapters, but overall this was a good read.

A well deserved 5 stars for this one, I was totally gripped from page one and I really did not see that ending coming! Around 80% through I thought I had the ending worked out then bam! No I didn’t! Brilliant. I really felt like I knew Regi and felt her pain as though it was my own, very well written book.

Is it me, or did anyone else find this book confusing??
Regi has moved into a house share. She has OCD & it's obvious she has had a terrible trauma in her life that she is trying to deal with on a day to day basis. Regi takes an interest on Instagram of a woman calling herself 'Mrs Clean' & following her compulsively. This throws up more questions than answers.
The suspense in this book was very good but I did find the last few chapters confusing. Who's who & what's what?? Worth a read & I certainly couldn't put it down.

Regi wants to start afresh in her new houseshare. Her housemates are friendly enough, they seem to want the best for her but it’s not the same as having real friends and family around. So, like most of us, Regi falls into social media and there she finds a specific account that captivates her attention. So much so that the rest of her life is suffering. But is there more to this mindless scrolling than she could imagine? I admit I got a bit confused at one point but when I worked it out, it all made sense. I’d be interested to read what else Nina has as this was very enjoyable.
