Mysterious, spooky, and yet fun and page turning—that's what I was thinking when I read Of Wicked Blood.

This book has two point of views from its two main characters: Slate Ardoin and Cadence de Morel.

Slate's narrative is a whole ride, with his sarcastic thoughts toward almost everything and everyone, his witty remarks and humor. He seems like a comedic character even without trying (which he is), but really he's more than that. Being raised out and off fosters home with abusive parents made him developed a tough exterior and rough edges, shutting of people with his usual rude remarks. Coming to Brume--a place he didn't know its existed and a place where he was born as Remy Roland--made him realized that he is capable of so much emotions. It's super interesting to see his development throughout the story. We finally could see for what Slate really is, a loving brother, a good and caring person.

Cadence herself is someone that wear her heart at her sleeves. Her blatant crush towards Adrien and her adoration of her father proving that. However, meeting Slate slowly changed her—because he brings the worst in her, but also the best. Cadence became more confident of herself, getting out of the shell of protection her father provide. Her father told lies, bunch of them, about her family and the town all of her lives. I personally want her to know her De Morel wrongdoings, wanting those secrets to be revealed to her. She didn't deserve to live under her Quatrefoil-obsessed father lies anymore. And the end of the book hanging me from that hope. I wish we can see it in the next book.

Also there's so many unanswered questions that I hope can be answered in the sequel: 1) Geoffrey creepy behavior (because he was disgusting I was expecting him to be the main bad guy), 2) Amandine and Rainier before her death, 3) the ring and Cadence's piece of Quatrefoil.

Last but not least, I really didn't expect to like Slate and Cadence relationship, partly because it's an insta-lust and insta-love (from Slate part, at least) tropey, but I love it. Also, I like how this book handled panic attack, PTSD, and stuffs. Slate was described as a very attentive person towards Cadence's panic attack, and vice versa, how Cadence soothed Slate whenever he was having his trauma and PTSD back.

TW of this book: death of the loved ones, mention of suicide, mention of abuse, mention of abusive parents, mention of mental illness, PTSD, ADD, panic attack

This book immediately sucked me in and didn't let go until the end. A thief steals something that changes everything for not just him but a whole town. It leads him and others into a world of magic that never was imagined. The characters are charismatic and likeable. I loved reading this story and look forward to the sequel!

The description from this book really does not give the plot-line and the character development justice. I have enjoyed many books in my short life-span but this had me gripping the edge of my chair, toes curling from embarrassment and heart throbbing by the end. The characters, the relationships between them, the secrecy and the betrayal are all so well-written and executed.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and usually I find the whole witches -and-wizards-fantasy-magic all a bit cliche and predictable but this took a complete turn. Even though the plot-line revolve around magic and is describing magic, it isn't relied on and I believe that is incredible.

I enjoyed the language within the book, the way it dabbles in a couple of French words or phrases really drew me in more and the world-building of Brume was fantastic. I will definitely be looking forward to reading any further books which come out of the series and I will be looking out for other works which the authors have written.

Overall this is a thoroughly enjoyable book full of different language, well-written and developed characters, sarcastic and witty one-liners, emotional roller coasters and a beautiful world. I would recommend this ten times over.

Magic, romance and danger – what more could you want from this engaging novel by two fantastic authors!

‘Of Wicked Blood’ explores the dangerous and magic world of Brume. Written from the perspectives of both Cadence de Morel and Slate Ardoin, the novel follows the two protagonists, and others, as they are thrown into a dangerous quest to save Slate’s life and find the four pieces of the Quatrefoil. This incredible read takes the reader on an action-packed journey full of twists and turns as both Candace and Slate learn more about their past, themselves and each other during a dangerous quest filled with monsters, magic, secrets and lies.

The characters, the dual narrative and the plot were extremely well-written and well developed. As the reader, you find yourself immediately thrown into the world of the two protagonists and invested in their quest. This was a thoroughly enjoyable read and a great start to the series – I was hooked!

I strongly recommend this title to fans of fantasy, romance and YA in need of their next adventure!

Right as I started reading this, I knew I was going to love every page. It had everything I adore in YA books and is definitely up there amongst my top five favourite books. If this isn’t on the NYT best-selling list next year, I swear I will sue. Never have I ever read something so masterfully written. These two authors need a world-wide standing ovation (and possibly more books planned together), their humour made this book what it is You best believe I’ll be telling everyone about this.
It had perfectly flawed and drawn out characters, starting with Slate, an impossibly handsome, morally grey character, having spent his whole life fighting and stealing his way through foster homes and abusive guardians, the last of his family as far he knew. Life for him is finally great until he receives a letter claiming to know his real name and family, inviting him back to his home town, Brume. As soon he arrives, his suddenly short life, gets turned upside down, after he steals a cursed ring and will allegedly die in two weeks.
There he meets Cadence, a cute Brume history enthusiast, belonging to one of the old families of the town, and their lives intertwine and together they realize the huge part their families have in the old, forbidden and long-lost magic known as the Quatrefoil, an element of magic assigned to each of them. Together they race against time to bring back magic to Brume or risk losing Slate forever.
Along the way, a romance simmers, with enough jealousy, pining and drama to keep you on your toes, all the while they uncover the dark secrets of Brume and the shocking reveals of the horrid actions done by its inhabitants.
I freakin loved Slate, with his witty humour, devilish smile and sly personality, there couldn’t be a more perfect boyfriend. And he is just so hella hot. The way he hides his pain and true feelings through jokes, having gone through so much in his life, makes me want to reach out and hug him and never let anything horrible happen to him ever again. He clearly cares about Cadence so damn much; it hurts my heart and hell if I didn’t swear and scream when it seemed things weren’t going well between them.
And that ending. I AM SHOOK. And wow, are there some shady as heck characters that I cannot, for the life of me, stand. I need the next book NOW. My theories must be addressed.
Including cursed artefacts, black magic, jaw-breaking humour, enticing action, and just the most wonderful romance, this book is definitely a must read and I can’t wait to recommend my new favourite book to everyone as soon as its released.

This book! Wow! The story was so intriguing! It's action-packed and kind of sketchy in a good way. Also, the setting was perfect for the story. I very rarely talk about settings in my reviews but I felt this one deserved mentioning because I really loved this strange, eerie, magic loving little town and I thought it was an excellent backdrop.

The journey these characters go on throughout this book especially within the time frame it all happened was wild. Each curse just got more and more chaotic so kudos to the Quatrefoil Crew for going through what they did with most of their sanity still intact because I think I need a drink or two on their behalf.

Overall I really loved this book. We have a very interesting group of characters established (some not as trustworthy as others). There was action, danger, some funny moments, secrets in top of secrets, and so many truths to be revealed. I am super invested and I can't wait to read what comes next.

Thank you Olivia Wildenstein and Katie Hayoz, Twig Publishing, and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to review this book!

I am planning to read everything by the authors after this book. It was so good! Slate comes home to a letter inviting him to a new school and he discovers a town filled with family history, challenges, and new friends. Cadence, Slate, and their crew of friends take on challenge after challenge before the new moon. The authors leave no stone unturned with romance, deception, death, and character growth. This book is a must read!

Rating ~ 5 / 5 stars

Holy crap! I don't even know what to say because Of Wicked Blood is fantastic! Everything from the setting to the characters to the plot threw me onto a wild ride! I've recently discovered Olivia Wildenstein's books and I have read 2 (Feather and Not Another Love Story) but this novel! I have no words for it!!

I loved the characters! Slate and Cadence have 2 very different backgrounds but still manage to work well with each other. The drama between these two is everything! I loved reading the chapters in both perspectives because it gives more depth to the writing. I loved Slate's monologues because he always managed to make me crack up even in the direst situations! Both characters grow so much from the moment they first meant to the last sentence on the last page. I can say that both characters truly compliment each other really well and I can't wait to read more about them.

Can I say that I'm so mad that the book ended when such a huge surprise happened.??? I was hoping for another chapter to explain how that surprise happened but nope, both of the authors decided to end it right there! This is not a bad thing because it shows that both of these authors know how to keep the reader aka me hooked till the very end and literally end up wanting the next book immediately!

Overall, I just want to give a standing ovation to both Ms. Wildenstien and Ms. Hayoz because this novel is OUTSTANDING. Go add this book to your Goodreads now!!!!

What a quick, satisfying fantasy novel. The characters were extremely well written and the interactions between them were believable and interesting. The storyline is told by the two main characters, Slade and Cadence. As we begin, we discover that Slade is an anti hero. He became a hero in spite of himself. This proves to increase to be entertaining and likeable. I do fell that the world building would have been more effective with a more detailed, i depth backstory. Kudos to this book one of a series. I look forward to the further development and the progression of the storyline as subsequent books become available. And excellent, enjoyable read. I strongly recommend.

I would like to thank Olivia Wildenstein, Katy Hayoz, Twig Publishing nd Netgalley for allowing me to read this advanced reader copy in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley. I am leaving my honest review

I have never read anything by either author before. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book.

This was a quick, enjoyable fantasy. The characters were well written and the interactions between them were interesting. The story is alternately told by the two main characters, Slade and Cadence. Interestingly, Slade is a flawed hero. He became a hero in spite of himself. This serves to make him more entertaining and likeable

The world building would have been more effective with a more detailed backstory. However, this is book one of a series. Hopefully we will get more insight as tge series progresses.

Okay, so I am flittering between a 3-3.5 stars for this one but can’t quite decide how I feel about it. On the one hand, this book included some things I loved and I really like both of these authors, but on the other, it felt like it was trying to be something it’s not.

What did I like?
- First of all, the characters. I really thought Candence and Slate were both unique and interesting characters. Their dynamic was great, I thought they were both very witty and I could see a growing romance between them well.
- I liked the concept of the story. I always like books where the characters have to solve a puzzle or go and search for something to solve a puzzle.
- I thought the pacing of the story was great and I did fly through this book easily.

I think one of my main issues with this book was the sudden bursts of info dumping and then nothing for ages and another dump of info. I couldn’t really picture the town they were in and I wanted more backstory of the locals opinions on magic etc. I felt like we as the reader were told a lot but not shown anything.
I also think what happens/revealed about Candence’s father was very predictable and from the first chapter I knew something was wrong. I feel like the book might have worked better if his character didn’t look so shady in the first place.

Overall, a decent, well written light fantasy book that had some really good elements to it. I would pick up the second book as I’m curious after that ending.
I received this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Can I just say that this book needs more than 5 stars?! Like a bunch more! I went into this book completely blind and loved every single page. I couldn't put it down until the very end and even now, I have to know what happens next! What can I send y'all to help speed this process up?!

Slate is such an amazing, morally grey character! I completely get where he's coming from. If someone let me suffer for 17 years and then popped up like heyyyy, I'd be pissed too! I'd want to get a little revenge on them.

Cadence is an adorable history buff and a prude. Everything Slate is not. And yet, she's who will wear him down in the end. He says he'll wear her down, but he's the one going soft here.

Can't get enough of this book! I highly recommend!
