The orphans of Hope House #1

Virginia, 1933: Lauren Greenwood was born into a wealthy family. Her mother had died when she was just an infant. Her mums sister, who she called Nanny Kat, had brought her up. Now an eligible young woman, she wants to help others who are less fortunate than herself. But when Lauren breaks ok her engagement, her father throws her out onto the streets without a penny to her name. Lauren finds an orphanage she can stay in. The orphans are living in shocking conditions, they're hungry and too weak to even play. Lauren vows to help these children.

This roller coaster read will mess with your emotions. Set around the Great Depression, we learn how people from all walks of life tried to survive. My heart broke reading about Patty. She used to work for the Greenwoods and Lsuren feels sorry for her predicament. Lauren is determined to save the home for unloved children. This is a well written story with great characters, some will get under your skin. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series to see what happens next to Lauren and the children.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #Bookouture and the author #RachelWesson for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Rachel Wesson is one of my top 3 favorite authors. She certainly doesn’t disappoint with this new story she just came out with. I laughed and I cried and It really touched me. No one knows just how bad the depression was unless they were there and Rachel can make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Love love love this book!!!

Rachel Wesson’s books have never disappointed me. The research she puts in to her books is reflected in her stories. So much detail is noted for the time periods she writes about. A Home for Unloved Children takes place during the depression. Her descriptions of the times and the horrible conditions people had to endure make you feel such angst. The title says is all, “ a completely heartbreaking and gripping historical fiction page turner”. I could not put the book down. I had to see what Lauren would get into next. This book invokes so many feelings, anger, sadness, compassion, joy.. I can’t wait to read more.
