I requested this book unaware it was part of a series, so I really appreciated the recap of characters in the FBI team at the start. It made it much clearer and I felt in the loop.

I enjoyed the writing style, and found this to be an interesting novel. I'm keen go read more of the series.

Thanks to the publisher for providing me with a copy of this E-book to review via Netgalley.

I got excited to receive a copy The Whole truth by Cara Hunter. I have been following the series from the start and loved them. The author never seems to disappoint. The Whole truth is the fifth book in the series.
This time Fawley and his team investigate a student claiming sexual harassment from his tutor. Not unusual but, the student is male, and the tutor is female. Whilst the investigation unfolds with the controversy it leads to this case Di Fawley is stressed not just because of this case but also his wife Alex is nearly the end of her labour. The baby is due any day and there are complications, and she needs total bed rest.
This is another compelling thriller from the author. The story at first though was a bit slow to come together but when it did, I was hooked. The author has a unique writing style. I like how she keeps it current with the inserts of social media and whatsapp messaging. And I was at the edge of my seat to see what pans out with DI Fawley at the end of the book. 4.5 stars from me.

The Whole Truth is a good book from Cara Hunter, but I don’t think it’s one of her best.

The story revolves around a student’s complaint of sexual harassment against a tutor. It’s not a typical story by any means and is rather well done for much of its length, with some interesting discussion of issues of consent, but to say more would be too much of a spoiler. As Fawley and his team investigate, a murder is committed which introduces a second, far less believable plot thread which dominates the second half of the book. I was a little disappointed in this, in that it smacks of a slightly desperate search for a Twist to Ratchet Up The Tension; Hunter is better than that and I think this demeans her slightly.

Structurally, too, it’s not as well done as some others in the series. Hunter is still excellent on both police procedure (they do actually follow procedure!) and on press and social media responses to a story, and her characterisation is very good – especially of the regular members of Fawley’s team. However, there is more of a fragmented feel to this one, some slightly odd addressing of the reader directly and a great rush of revelation at the end which felt a bit forced.

All that said, it remains a good, involving read and a cut above a lot of stuff in this genre. Not a classic but I have rounded 3.5 stars up to 4 and I’ll certainly be continuing with the series.

(My thanks to Penguin for an ARC via NetGalley.)

Cara Hunter is definitely my favorite mystery author! She is highly under rated. I love how you connect more and more to the characters with each book and grow to love them. I also love how there are no chapters but snippets as the POV changes. It makes for fast paced and never wanting to put it down! Also having all the different layouts such as texts, tweets, notes, pod casts adds a nice touch to the reading experience. As every book could be read as a stand alone I highly recommend starting from book one.

And Cara Hunter does it again! There are no words to describe just how brilliant this book is - from the beginning to the end I was hooked and I wanted it to end but I didn’t want it to end if you know what I mean.

DI Adam Fawley is back as are his team, this time though they appears to working on a pretty strange case - a sexual assault on a student by a renowned lecturer. Meanwhile Fawley’s wife, Alex, is heavily pregnant and becoming obsessed with a series of podcasts focussing on Gavin Parrie, a man who attacked her and was convicted as the ‘Roadside Rapist’ but has since been released from prison. At the time of his conviction he swore he would wreak revenge on Fawley and his family.

I am loathed to go into any more detail on the ins and outs of the book as I don’t want to risk revealing any spoilers but it’s such a cleverly written book. Suffice to say that there are many twists and turns along the way and I found myself thinking I had sussed it out, only to be proved wrong again.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced read copy of this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

Absolutely love cara hunters books
and this one didnt disappoint. Although we have met these characters in previous stories, it is not a nesecity to have read the previous ones.

This novel follows 2 story lines. The first focuses around non consensual sex amid a high profile character.
The second follows the aftermath of Gavin parrie being released from prison. He was convicted following the rape of several women, one of whom is DI Adam fawleys wife. She is currently pregnant but petrified she is being watched.....could it be gavin back for revenge. Add to the mix, Alex's friend Emma is found dead on a railway line. What initially looks like suicide turns into a murder investigation with devastating consequences for Adam.
A fast paced book full of twists and turns. Love the way Cara writes with interview transcripts as well as newspaper articles. Easy to read but completely pulls you in. Highly recommend.

This is my first Detective Inspector Adam Fawley novel although it’s the fifth in the series.
I really enjoyed it and am definitely going to read the others.
Hunter is a good writer and her characters are well observed and she writes with humour.
In this novel, a rapist who Adam Fawley convicted has been released on license from prison.
But a podcast is investigating his possibly wrongful conviction, and Adam’s heavily pregnant wife is convinced she is being watched.
There is loads of suspense here as Adam turns from pursuer to pursued.
I’d really recommend this, whether or not you’ve read Hunter’s other novels.

Love this series read them all though this one takes a while to come together it seems very fragmented but don't give up it becomes an unable to put down book as you need to see how it all comes together in the end i really enjoyed this book looking forward to the next one!!

This follows 2 storylines - A sexual abuse scandal (This isn't too graphic for anyone concerned about triggers) and missing person/murder enquiry.

I found the college sexual abuse scandal really compelling and fast to read. We don't see too much of Adam Fawley in the first half of the book which is a shame but other characters are more than strong enough to take over and keep interest.

Adam Fawley has his own problems in the latter part of the book - I actually found this a bit unnecessary as Cara Hunter's stories are wonderful enough to hold a reader for the entirety of a book. I still enjoyed it though and gave the book a strong 4 stars.

And she does it again.
Just when I thought Cara Hunter couldn't improve on a catalogue that is already outstanding, her latest novel is, in my opinion, her best yet.
In a truly original, fresh and compelling writing style, 'The Whole Truth' tells two tales in one.
Firstly a very clever development of an ongoing back story involving DI Adam Fawley and his wife Alex (Although this takes nothing away from it being a stand alone novel) coupled with an intriguing tale involving a tryst between a successful, attractive, female professor and her young, sporty, also attractive, male student.
Who is telling the truth and who is prepared to go to extraordinary lengths to protect themselves from the law?
I got to 90%, wondering how on earth the writer would manage to tie it all up but a sudden, explosive and extremely twisty conclusion is just round the corner.
Two things I have learned about Cara Hunter:
1. I should have more faith that she will absolutely deliver in that last 10%
2. As soon as I open one of her novels I need to clear the next two days.
Order a takeaway and get comfy on the sofa. You are going nowhere until the last page.

I was really pleased to read this next book in the series about DI Fawley. It did not disappoint. A good psychological thriller with 2 distinct story lines, both based on the premise of he said/she said. Although you do not know where the story is going you are given a satisfactory conclusion.
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin for the advance digital copy of this book.

This latest instalment of the DI Fawley series has demonstrated the increasing maturity of Ms Hunter’s writing; whilst all the usual elements are there - a pleasing depth and range of well drawn and credible characters, a plot that grips and demands the reader’s attention and a satisfying denouement- there is also a development of some of the lead characters that enhances the reader’s understanding of their lives, both personal and professional. Although the plot develops characters from earlier novels in the series it is a perfectly acceptable stand-alone read. However, in terms of really enjoying the development of DI Fawley’s team and the engaging style of Ms Hunter’s writing, the best advice will always be to start at the beginning and savour the pleasure of the entire series.
I guess it’s obvious I am a fan, but I don’t think I’m on my own. The police procedural/crime & detective genre is fairly crowded, but this is an author who deservedly stands out for her fluent writing, her well paced plots and a clever use of narrative devices that reflect how ordinary people communicate and interact in the twenty first century.
Very highly recommended.

This was an excellent read. It started off a little slowly and then rally picked up, There are two story lines, both of which are focused on who is telling the truth. The first one features a he said / she said allegation of sexual assault made by a male student against a female professor. The second involves the death of a friend of Adam’s wife, Alex. The first story twists and turns and your sympathies switch as different truths emerge. There are a lot of devious people in the story - some of them get away with their lies, some don’t. I thoroughly recommend this. Thanks to Netgalley for an ARC.

Brilliant. Thanks for giving me an early copy of this book to review. Every one of her books is excellent. You can’t quite see where things are going but it all makes perfect sense as things conclude. One of the best psychological thriller writers out there.

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin General UK for an ARC of this book! Release date - February 25, 2021

I think this might be the most excited I've ever been to receive an ARC. I usually wait until closer to the release date to read my ARCs, but I was so pumped about this one that I started it immediately and didn't put it down until I was finished, within 24 hours! I am a HUGE fan of Cara Hunter and just don't understand why she's not more popular because she is amazing.

The writing style is so amazing, it keeps me turning pages because the sections are just short enough that you want to read one more one more one more. Plus the scene changes so often that you have to know what happens next to every character and every storyline. And there are severalllll storylines going on here, the main ones being the alleged sexual assault and the podcast/Gavin Parries/Alex thing, but there are also several side storylines with the side characters. I absolutely love how every side character has a storyline and a backstory but it's never confusing or hard to keep straight. It's so detailed and yet so effortless. It's one of my favorite things about Cara Hunter's books.

I just love how I never know how one of these books is going to go. I definitely had some theories but I was still surprised at how everything played out. I love how I can never guess the ending of a Cara Hunter book!

I am never disappointed with these books and I hope there's going to be even more! If you love mysteries, thrillers, unguessable endings, and police investigation, you should definitely read these books!

Uniquely written, insanely chilling psychological thriller that knocked my socks off.

This book is awesome. I don't often say this, but one of my favorite things about it was its format. In a simply awesome way, Cara Hunter used various forms of writing, including texts, news articles, podcasts, interviews, calls, voicemail, emails, forms and more. This diversity in writing styles makes the reading experience simply more spicy and engaging. For this reason, while I'm an avid reader in general, I would likely recommend The Whole Truth to a friend who doesn't read much because it's boring or difficult. Paired with the unusual plot, this thriller is likely going to change their mind.

While this is the fifth book in the Fawley series, it's totally a standalone. Hear me out: I usually hate picking up a book in a series that's not the first one, but in case of Cara Hunter's writing, I dare say it's seriously even better this way. That's because at the beginning of the book, the author inserts a table with answers to something like a police questionnaire in which DI Adam Fawley, the main character, as well as other key characters, answer them in a fun way. Let's say it did wade me want to read the first four books, but it did not make me drop The Whole Truth in any way.

Wow. That was went through my head when I finished the last chapter. It was the sort of book that you are racing to find out the answers but also one that you don’t want to finish. It was a rollercoaster of a thriller that had me gripped from the beginning. I think each story about Adam Fawley just gets better and better. You just started to feel like you knew where this book was heading and then it raced off in another exciting direction. If I could award more than 5 stars I would.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read a preview copy of this book.

I absolutely love these books. No crime is as clear cut as at first thought and there is always a twist I didn’t see coming.

Adam Fawley and his team are called to investigate a university student’s claims of indecent assault by his female tutor and Gavin Parrie rears his ugly head again to cause Adam and his wife problems.

These books are of a high police procedural genre and I look forward to the next instalment.

Many thanks to the publishers and netgalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
