Ok this Bod Squad story might have the silliest reason to shrink down and enter one of their teammates bodies: Kara is about to be stung by a mosquito. They might as well have just told her instead of trying to reach her brain on time through the nervous system.
Then again, I don't think I would have been able to make up a better story arc as the backdrop to explain the nervous system.

Out of all of the body systems this author has tackled, the nervous system might be the most difficult one to visualize. So although I found the premise a little silly, this is a good resource for kids to learn more about our intricate and interesting human bodies.

Fun, easy way to teach kids (or first year neuroscience students) how the motor and somatosensory systems work!

I really enjoy children's books as this: a child can easily learn while reading the story, enjoying the story and the illustrations.

(I will update the review with link to the blog review, closer to publication date).

I'd like to thank the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a review copy in exchange for an honest review.

My daughter loves these children's books about the systems of the body. The information is incredible and would be great in any classroom- especially to help the little ones with a science lesson. The pictures are colorful and the kids have an adventure while learning and explaining complex topics in a simple way.

Great for a classroom or library, or for any child who asks a lot of questions about how their body works!

I was provided and advanced copy of this book by the publisher in exchange for my review

'Adventures in the Nervous System' by Alexander Lowe with illustrations by Sebastian Kadlecik is another graphic novel featuring the Bod Squad.

When a mosquito lands on Kara's arm, the squad decide to shrink down and make sure Kara's nervous system lets her know the mosquito is there. They meet a neuron, travel a fast rollercoaster to the brain and watch as Kara's body tells her the mosquito is there.

This is a fun science series for young readers. Each volume focuses on a small part of a system in the human body. There is an end section with a way to learn more.

I received a review copy of this ebook from Norwood Press and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review ebook.

I think it is important for kids to understand their bodies and the way they work. They are more likely to read graphic novels so I am grateful for the content and style. It felt more forced and less engaging than I would like though.

I really liked the idea behind this story and was delighted to see that this book was one of five available, this is the fourth I have read in the series now!

The Bod Squad characters were great and I liked the way that they were used to tell us more about the Nervous System and it does not baffle the reader with too much science – I think it was perfectly pitched.

The images were ok too – it is 4 stars from me for this one – highly recommended!

My 9 year old and I read this while making dinner tonight for part of his required 30 minutes reading nightly. He kept getting amazed by some of the facts and laughing at the fact they shrank themselves down. It gave me Magic Schoolbus vibes. Which he told me he’d never heard of and made me feel old.
After reading I asked him what we should rate this book based on what we liked/ didn’t like. He said “I’d give it a 4.” When asked why a 4, he said due to it being educational and that educational books cannot be considered a 5 star read. Then, he proceeded to run in the other room to tell his sister about what he just read but most importantly the 600 miles fact that blew him away.
So, momma is gonna give it a 5. He learned and enjoyed it enough to share with his older sister. Can’t wait to read the next few with him!

This book was fine but not incredible. The book takes us through the nervous system using a mosquito bite and subsequent arm movement to shoo the mosquito away. The characters shrink down, Magic School Bus style, to explore the nervous system.

The book was informative and the illustrations served their purpose. However, there is not a distinct visual style that makes the art stand out.

Thank you to NetGalley and Norwood House Press for my copy of Adventures in the Nervous System by Alexander Lowe in exchange for an honest review. It published July 15, 2o2o.
I had the help of two eight year olds and a six year old for the review of this book. The first thing they said about these books in this series is, "These are way better than Magic School Bus books, they're much more grown up".
I used this book as a discussion for their science lesson today, and they were very interested. There isn't too much information to lose their interest, but plenty of little tidbits threaded through to keep them learning as they are being entertained.
The nervous system was very exciting how it was pictured with a roller coaster to indicate the speed, I think that's a great way to explain to kids. It was also neat how it showed how the nervous system interacts with the muscular system. I think this book would keep any kids' interest from kindergarten up to middle school. Comic books for the win!
This would make an excellent gift for any kid learning about the body. Honestly, I kind of wished I had these as a resource when I was taking Anatomy and Physiology in college. They present the information so clearly that there's no room for confusion, (compared to my textbook and PowerPoint presentations!)

We are doing a human body unit study for homeschooling this year and this series of books are perfect to incorporate into our studies!

This is a really great book series for kids interested in science. It’s really educational, but at the same time a fun read for kids as they can relate to the characters.

In this book, the gang explores the nervous system. They give a lot of facts about how things work inside the human body.

The illustrations are effective and eye catching.

My kids loved reading the whole series and I would wholeheartedly recommend it for kids as they can gain a lot of knowledge about biology through this book series.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for providing me with an advance reader’s copy for an honest review.

When their friend Kara is about to be bitten by mosquitoes, the three remaining Bod Squad with super power to make themselves smaller got inside Kara's nervous system to warn her.

Here we learn about our nervous system, that is not easy to understand since everything happen so fast, and we usually didn't have time to ponder upon what really is going. This book explains about it, how "messages" are transmitted from outside our body so our body will react accordingly,

Thank you to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for granting me access to Adventures in the Nervous System in exchange for an honest review.

Adventures in the Nervous System is part of a series of short graphic novels for kids about a group of child heroes who can shrink down small enough to fit inside the human body, and use their powers to assist the people they care about. In this book the group is riding the nervous system (presented humorously as a roller coaster that not all of them can quite stomache, since messages in the nerves do travel so fast) in order to warn their friend Kara's brain that a mosquito is about to bite her arm.

The information presented in this book is very informative and presented in a way that elementary school age kids will be able to understand. As a 32 year old parent, I was drawn to this title because it reminded me of the Magic School Bus series and Ms. Frizzle's shrinking adventure antics, and I was note disappointed! Now to read more of these so I can figure out which character is an anaolgue for Arnold.

This is a fantastic book for children which teaches them all about the nervous system of the human body in a fun and joyful manner. A group of children called The Bod Squad turn themselves into small beings so that they can go inside their friend's body in order to warn her about something. My daughter and I both enjoyed this book very much and we will read it again as she gets older, as it is very useful and interesting to both of us.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was a really cute story that sort of reminded me of the Magic School Bus. The characters go on an adventure into the nervous system of their friend to help her react to the mosquito which has landed on her arm. They learn about sensory feedback and voluntary muscle response. I read it with my young daughter and she seemed to really enjoy it and then talked about neurons for a few days afterwards.

I'm really glad that there are talented people in the world like the author Alexander Lowe, who absolutely skillfully knows how to turn very complex explanations into something so easy to understand and at the same time extremely interesting for children. His picture book Adventures in the Nervous System, as well as the other parts in the series ‘The Bod Squad’ is something that every family with small children should have.

When the mosquito lands at Kara's hand, the popular The Bod Squad appears on the scene, revealing all the details and secrets of the functioning of the nervous system. Perfectly adapted to the children's age, with appropriate language structures and simple, intelligible vocabulary, this picture book is a real boon. Not only will they learn a lot of new terms like neurons, sensory neurons, motor neurons and a bunch of other information, it will also allow children to truly ride a roller coaster through the nervous system of every body. The additional information is so cleverly interwoven through the pictures that it subtly provides plus fun for the children.
The strip technique personally delighted me, and all the illustrations are simply ideal in order to keep the children's attention.
In the end, the composition of The Bod Squad is something that must also be praised. Children of different races and cultural and ethnic backgrounds are an absolutely perfect detail to encourage openness in children to embrace diversity as a unique way to have a beautiful and cheerful future.
As I wrote before, this series should definitely be an integral part of the library of every family with small children.

I got this on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review!

I really like this series! It is really informative about the functions of the body, without making it too heavy or boring! The explanations in this are done well and adapted perfectly to a younger audience.
I love how it compares the nervous system as a really fast rollercoaster, a perfect analogy in my opinion! I also really enjoyed that it focuses on everything from the nerves, the brain, and the messages being delivered to the muscles.
