A book full of so many twists and secrets and an ending I would never have seen coming. I would have no hesitation in recommending this book. It five stars from me

Having enjoyed Jackie Walsh’ previous novel ‘`the Secrets He Kept’, I had high hopes for ‘Five Little Words’, and I was absolutely not disappointed!

Set in the village pf Ballycoll, a commute away from Dublin, the story begins with Laura, who cannot believe her luck when, after a whirlwind romance, finds herself married to handsome brewery owner Connor, having just given birth to their son, Shay. A shadow is cast over Laura’s happiness however when on returning home from the maternity ward, she receives a card with the ‘five little words’ that suggest her husband is a killer….

This is a gripping story with suspicion cast in every direction. Laura plays the part of amateur sleuth, but with some trepidation, as she is also clearly terrified of finding out a truth that will shatter her world. We soon discover that Laura has some secrets of her own she is keen to keep!

I enjoyed dipping in and out of this book, and found myself doing so an every possible opportunity! I found the characters likeable, with just the right amount of detail to allow me to embellish them in my own imagination.

One again Jackie Walsh has nailed it with this novel, and as such I look forward to reading what she delivers next! My thanks to Net-Galley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy.

I found this book a little underwhelming. The beginning captivated me and I needed to know what had happened, but as the story went on I felt less enthused. We just keep following Laura around but seems like forever before she gets answers.

This is a whodunit type of thriller. We follow Laura Caldwell who has just had a baby with the man of her dreams. The day that she comes home with the baby, she finds a card with five little words: your husband is a murderer. A barmaid in the quiet town had just been murdered and there were no known suspects. Rumour had it that she was having an affair with a married man in town... Laura does her own investigation and starts to have suspicions of her own.

This book was not as captivating as I had hoped. There weren't many twists and turns and even the clues that we got were quite open ended and some of the loose ends were not tied by the end of the book. I'm still wondering about the envelope exchange in the graveyard, and the details around the accident with Jamie.

2.5/5, rounded up to 3.

Thank you to Hera Books and NetGalley for the eGalley. All opinions expressed are my own.

Brand new mom, Laura Caldwell, opens the card that was dropped through her letterbox...expecting a congratulatory card on the birth of her child. What she gets is something far different. The card only has one message ... Your Husband Is A Killer.

Shortly before she gave birth, a local barmaid was murdered. Is this what the note is hinting at? Her husband, Colin, and she have a terrific marriage and the baby has made it better. They're living in a small village, where she's been fully accepted ... or at least she thinks so.

She just cant .. won't ... believe that her husband is a killer. Trying to find the truth is tough ... especially as she is hiding secrets herself ... and has been for years.

There’s a tangled web between this perfect couple – and the truth might just destroy them...

The intricate plot is swarming with a town with secrets ... a mother with secrets ... and possible her husband's secrets. Lots of twists and turns keep the reader turning the pages quite rapidly. Characters are solidly drawn. The ending is quite unexpected and surprising.

Many thanks to the author / Hera Books / Netgalley for the digital copy of this psychological thriller. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Five Little Words is my first book by this author, and definitely will not be my last. Quite a twisty story with touch of drama and intrigue including an that ending I did not see coming. The main character, Laura Caldwell receives an anonymous message in the mail among her other new baby congratulations, that says her husband is a murderer. While she attempts to discover the truth, she ends up confronting her own past as well. The internal struggle Laura has is quite a fascinating experience. The story has exceptional development of it's characters to the extent that I could almost relate to each one of them... Five Little Words contains a tangled web of secrets, and will have you guessing all the way to the end. Quite the page turner that I could not put down. Quick read but worth it! Thanks so much to NG for the ARC!

Thanks to Netgalley and Hera Books for providing this arc in exchange for an honest review.

Laura has just married a well off brewery owner and had a baby. She has left Dublin and moved to the small town where he lives to be with him. Shortly after the baby is born, she gets an anonymous note saying that her husband is a murderer. A local woman had been murdered recently.

This book was okay. It was really quite slow and while it did have an unexpected twist, I really couldn’t get that excited about it because I had never really engaged with the story enough to care. It was a good premise, a story I would typically enjoy but it just took too long to get going for my taste. I read a previous book from this author that I enjoyed much more so I will still likely read more from her.

The cover and blurb is quite intriguing! The birth of a baby should be a happy and loving experience, unfortunately it’s challenging for new parents Laura and Conor Caldwell. As they bring Shay home, Laura receives a card in the mail with five little words “your husband is a murderer”! What?! Is this for real, who would accuse her husband, who can you trust? So many questions. This is a slow burn mystery with some twists. Thank you to Hera Books and NetGalley for a gifted copy. This is my honest review.

Rating: 3 🍷 🍷 🍷 !!!!!!!
Book: Five Little Words
Available NOW -Release Date: October 21, 2020
Author: Jackie Walsh
Genre: Mystery & Thrillers

Sipping Synopsis: Five little words that you want to hear are things like “I love you so much,” “You are the only one,” and “Let’s go out to eat.” You do not ever want to read “Your husband is a murderer”! But that is just what happened to new mom and wife, Laura. Surely, her husband of about a year, Conor, could not be a killer.

Final sipping thoughts: This book is full of secrets, backstabbing, and mysterious characters. Walsh did a good job with slowly revealing new secrets and making you suspect everyone. I do feel like there were parts that were repetitive and draggy. If you are looking for a quick, fast-paced read try this one out!

I'm one of those people who thinks that if a book opens up telling me that everything in a character's life is perfect, it is actually far from it... And that is exactly what happens here. Perfect husband, newborn baby... Ahhh bliss... WRONG. Laura's first instinct when the card arrives is that someone is playing a cruel joke on her happy family. Clearly someone isn't a fan... I mean, who would drop a note in the mail with 5 little words: Your Husband is a Murderer.

Laura's heart explains away the message - it's all a cruel joke... my husband would never... yadda yadda yadda.
Laura's brain, however, begins to second guess everything.

And that right there is when the long stuffed deep down secrets come bubbling to the surface. Maybe the picture hanging on the wall isn't what it appears...

True to the thriller that this is, I loved it. It was full of juicy secrets, revenge, distaste, heart, and truth. Needless to say, it didn't take me long to complete it...

Thank you for allowing me to read this and give my honest opinion.

Imagine opening a card expecting happy greetings of congratulations on the birth of your baby and instead getting a card that reads "Your husband is a murderer." My heart would start having palpitations and then I would go into full blown shock and panic.

"Five Little Words" by Jackie Walsh follows new mom Laura as she navigates life in a new town full of plenty of secrets and twists. And let's not forget the fact that she has to try to figure out if her husband is a murderer or not. The reader comes to find out that there are several secrets in the town of Ballycall. And, oh, yeah, one more thing: Laura has a secret in her past as well.

This was an interesting read and kept my attention. Even if you are not typically a fan of thrillers, I feel like this is one you would enjoy.

I received an ARC of "Five Little Words" by Jackie Walsh from NetGalley and Hera Books in exchange for an honest review.

"Five Little Words," by Jackie Walsh, is a mystery/thriller that quickly draws the reader in. The main character, Laura, is a new mom who receives a card in the mail warning her that her adoring husband is a killer. This sends her into a tailspin, as she wonders just how well she really knows him. Along the way, she gets help from her sister as they attempt to uncover this mystery. But at the end of the story, there's a twist that most readers won't see coming.

This was a very intriguing book, but it did feel like the ending was a bit rushed. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
