The description and the cover of this book instantly caught my eye, and I was intrigued to see if the story itself would live up to my expectations. I am so happy to say that it went above and beyond them!. When a romance goes downhill due to the amount of lies and misunderstandings that lay between them, the teenagers decide that they should go their separate ways, and accept that there will never be a second change for their relationship, especially as one half of said relationship quickly moves away and isn't seen or heard from for years. Kait tried her best to get on with her life, and as Christmas fast approaches in Port Landon, she is busy working hard as a waitress as she has done for many years, and then as Branch returns to town, it throws everything up in the air as buried emotions come to the surface one again. This book was so beautifully written, it truly pulled at my heart throughout and had me rooting for Kait from the start. The story was wonderful and I found myself well and truly invested in the characters happiness as the story neared its end. A truly enjoyable read. |
Book: The Winter Berry House Author: Caroline Flynn Pub Date: November 26, 2020 Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for my e-copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars Synopsis: Port Landon is an idyllic, small town with a tight knit community. Branch Sterling returns to his hometown after the passing of his beloved grandmother Addie. Branch has been gone for years after an accident that caused him to feel outcast as though the entire town turned against him. Even worse? He left with a broken heart after a split from his high school sweetheart Kait. Now Branch has come back to settle affairs with his grandmother’s estate and quickly runs into Kait, leaving them both flooded with feelings of years past. Were things really as cut and dry with the accident as it seemed all those years before? Do Branch and Kait have a second chance at love? My Thoughts: I adored this book! The setting of Port Landon is almost a character in its own right. I loved the setting and sense of place of this book, as well as the holiday atmosphere. Kait and Branch are instantly lovable characters and I found myself rooting for them throughout the book. I think this book would make such a charming Hallmark Christmas movie and would love to see it adapted into one! This book is a lovely holiday romance set against the backdrop of a charming small town in winter and addresses the consequences of long held rumors and misunderstandings. The Winter Berry House by Caroline Flynn A heartwarming Christmas novel about rediscovering past loves and remembering that home his where the heart is. This was a great Christmastime cozy romance with homecomings thrown in.. I loved the characters. It had a great plot and was well-written. I couldn’t put it down. |
Lovely feel good seasonal book. It was just lovely. Romantic book you dream about. Great plot and characters. Perfect for reading over the festive period. Or at any time if the year. Christmas books can be enjoyed anytime anywhere. Very well written and flowed well. Charming book to read |
Another great holiday movie! This book had great character development, and the perfect ingredient for a holiday book- second chance romance. I devoured this one in a single afternoon. I will be adding the hard copy to my shelves for holidays to come! |
Review The Winter Berry House is one you'll want to read. The cover drew me in first, it's really lovely but then the story inside is just as lovely. We all have things in our past we'd like to change. The main characters here sure do. When a teenage romance goes south because of lies and a misunderstanding there couldn't possibly be a second chance especially when one half of the couple moves away and hasn't been seen in years. Trying to get on with life and forget is just what Kait Davenport must do. It's Christmas time in Port Landon and she's still working at the diner serving the same customers that have come to closely know and love her over the years. Reading the Winter Berry House will really pull on your heartstrings as there may be a possibility of a second chance romance when Branch Sterling returns to town to tie up loose ends. You'll empathize with Kait as her emotions are all over the place as she realizes Branch is back in town and for what, such a short time? Is it even worth investing her heart just to have the possibility to have it ripped out again? You'll want to tell the characters to get their act together in The Winter Berry House and not waste this second chance at love. Very enjoyable! Pub Date 26 Nov 2020 I was given a complimentary copy of this book. Thank you All opinions expressed are my own. |

The Winter Berry House is a delightful Christmas romance. Well written plot with believable characters. Romance readers will enjoy this book. Mi received an advance ebook from the publisher and Netgalley and this is my unbiased review. |
For such an easy read this took me ages, and I think that’s because of the main issue being that all of the romance ‘problems’ in this could have been completely solved in a page of communication and I found it so frustrating that it just seemed to drag on forever. I liked the small town feel and aspect of it but feel like that could’ve definitely been highlighted a lot more than it was, instead of the charming small town I was expecting the narrator was only interested in negatively talking about a couple of the smaller characters who I couldn’t keep track of as they weren’t given any real introduction to the reader. This could have worked and had the ingredients to be a good story, but it just wasn’t for me. |
This was honestly such a perfect second chance, feel good Christmas book. Kait and Branches heartbreaking history really tugged at the heart strings for sure and their chemistry is one that every girl dreams of. I was definitely rooting for Branch throughout the entire book. Such a great book to read during the Christmas season! |
Kait has stayed in the small town that raised her, even after a lot of drama could have driven her to run and start over. She is working at a diner in her small town of Michigan and in walks a former love who was a part of the drama and is back to take care of a house he inherited, will the past be rekindled or have they both moved on? I love holiday romances because they still follow the romance guidelines, but everything just seems a little extra (in a good way) with the heightened addition of a holiday season. This book felt like it could have taken place at any time of year, but I liked it more because it had Christmas lurking in the background. For me there were a few moments where I literally rolled my eyes at the main character, Kait. A few moments she just wasn't believable and I wanted her to act differently and more so then I feel with a typical fictional character. Without completely spoiling the book, there were things said by another character that she took as truth and I just wanted to say - "Hello girlfriend, really, you are trusting him!" Those moments made me distracted, but overall she was a fine character to follow. I would read more by this author in hopes that this character trait would not show up again in another story. |
Where do I begin?! This book is everything you want a Christmas story to be and more! This was my first Caroline Flynn read, but I immediately fell in love with the precious town of Port Landon. Going on this journey with Kait and Branch was truly magical. I loved their chemistry - everything felt natural and not a forced romance. The author did a wonderful job of truly telling a love story, not forcing two characters to get together. I really hope to hear more from Caroline Flynn in her Port Landon series - I don’t want to say goodbye to this town or these characters! |
The Winter Berry House by Caroline Flynn is the second novel based in Port Landon. It can be read as a total stand alone and be thoroughly enjoyed. I loved this second chance story about Kait and Branch. They were high school sweet hearts with their entire lives ahead of them when one night brought it all to a crashing end. *Insert heart breaking* Branch leaves the town of Port Landon only to return 11 years later to find out that things weren't exactly how he thought they were. Kait and Branch have such chemistry throughout the entire story. My only criticism is that Kait was so quick to jump to the negative and never really stopped and asked Branch exactly what happened. I was rooting for Branch the entire time! I fell in love with Port Landon after Flynn's first novel so I was so excited to read about it during the Christmas season. It definitely did not disappoint. Thank you @flynnromance @netgalley @hqstories for this advanced reader copy. I thoroughly enjoyed it ☺️ |
Really good christmas novel if not slightly predictable, but i read in a few days and thorougly enjoyed. |
This sounded like a lovely second chance holiday romance, but unfortunately I was only able to read about 30% of it before deciding to abandon it. It was a very slow read and I found myself waiting for it to get interesting. I hate when I decide to walk away from a book, but I got to a point where I was having to force myself to read. The beginning chapters also seemed to repeat themselves a bit and the history of Kait and Branch. I was waiting for new information but it seemed to be the same tidbits just from different points of view over and over. 2.50 stars |
The Winter Berry House by Caroline Flynn is a wonderful, romantic festive tale set in a small town called Port Landon. Even though I'm late to the party, jumping in at book two, this was still a fabulous read for me, working just fine as an individual story. Kait Davenport is working at The Port diner and just getting on with her life... when she runs into her high school sweetheart, Branch Sterling. The Christmas holiday season will mark the first anniversary of his beloved Granny Addie’s passing, and Branch knows it’s time to return to the house he’s inherited that was once his home. The story is tender, smoldering and blissful bringing with it another chance for love between the main characters. The plot unearths some wonderful, touching moments between Kait and Branch and I particularly liked Caroline Flynn's portrayal of Branch's remorse and redemption along with Addie's gentle prods throughout the text. An immensely heartwarming and engaging Christmas romance that I really enjoyed, I'm looking forward to reading the previous book to The Winter Berry House called The Forget-Me-Not Bakery as well as eagerly anticipating the next outing to Port Landon. I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from HQ Digital via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion. |
Lovely romantic Christmas read, loved it and would love more from these characters! Read it in one sitting! |

Nice, clean holiday romance. Lovers separated at 18 due to miscommunications reconnect 10 years later. Can they overcome the past. Will they discover the truth? Will the big holiday dinner and house decorations all get completed in time for Christmas Eve? |
4.5 stars Everything Happens for a Reason I devoured this book, it is a beautifully written holiday, second chance story. It hit on all my emotions, frustration included. First I love Port Landon, it is the perfect snow-covered small town. Not all the characters are loveable, but that is part of its charm. Branch Sterling comes home after years of staying away. It is the first anniversary of his beloved Grandmothers death, time to heal. Kait Davenport is the one who drove Branch away, but she did not have all the facts. Even after ten years, they pick right up as if no time has passed. Branch has December to clean up his childhood home before he returns to work, and is gone from Port Landon. Trying to recreate some holiday magic, together they give one final Christmas Eve legacy party. I loved Addie’s little nudges throughout the story. I can not wait to go back to Port Landon, who will be next? Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for the free copy in exchange for my voluntary review. |
This is a wonderfully written heart- warming holiday tale of second chances. High school sweethearts who thought they had a life filled with love and wonder ahead of them lose everything in the blink of an eye. He lived the past ten years being crushed by guilt, the accident that caused the town to hate him, the pain and shame he brought to his grandparents and the loss of the love of his life. Kait thought she had moved on, thought she was living. She spent the last ten years being there for everyone else that needed help. First Zach then her sister. Living her life for everyone else, but her. It was easier to take care of others than look into yourself and see your pain, see what you need to deal with in order to move forward and live again. Will Kait have what it takes to live again? What happens when, after ten years, Branch walks back through those doors again? Will it be like time never stopped? Will they feel their hearts will start beating again? Or will the pain outshine the love and kill every possibility for a second chance? I enjoyed this sweet romance. I liked the characters and the plot. It’s a great story with all the feels. A Hallmark movie ready to be filmed! |
