I've read all of K L Slater's thrillers and have always enjoyed them. Every one so far I have rated 3 or 4 stars but they've never quite been exceptional... until this one! Definitely my favourite of hers so far.

The book had me emotional from the first chapter! At that point I didn't know who was responsible but I knew I hated them and wanted to see justice served. I loved how we had multiple viewpoints so we could see the story from the perspectives of all the main players, including the detective and social services.

I can't really think of any negatives apart from that one of the viewpoints was a bit misleading, but I suppose it kind of had to be.

I would definitely recommend this book.

A sharp and ‘ you think you know but you dont’ psychological thriller
A busy A and E Dept and a junior Dr is suspicious of 2 separate unexpected and unexplained deaths, they shouldn’t have happened...so why have they?, he ‘whistleblows’ which of course causes a local and National outcry and the investigation starts
Meet Alexa and Carrie, sisters, one with a burden she carries and one who is Ward Manager at the A and E involved, when Carrie is under suspicion for the deaths Alexa has some troubling events and evidence to consider and confront
The book then takes us through the investigation and the various players reactions to it and how accusations and gossip and misconceptions can affect people caught up in a terrible situation
A fantatsic read, very sensitively done ( where needed, to say more would be to give some of the story away ) and full, really full of twists and turns and red herrings for the reader
The characters were great, especially the onlbnoxious Carrie Parsons, not sure why but the name totally suited her!
The book will fascinate, thrill and it really did give me a ‘AHAAAAA’ out loud moment when the truth was known
I loved the part in the acknowledgements where the author says we readers are getting smarter and each time it’s more difficult to write a twisty thriller, well as with her previous 11 books she has managed it
A perfect psychological thriller

Every book by this author just gets better and better! Believable plots with well rounded and characters with flaws you can relate to. This was another brilliant read that took me less than 24 hours to read.

Wow another fantastic book from this author as usual. So well written, brilliantly addictive and it had me on the edge of my seat from the very first page until the end.

All the characters were good and had their own story to tell with a superb ending.

I have nothing negative to say about this book and thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read this brilliant book.

Wow what a great read. I have to be honest I flipped between believe it all to be true and thinking the woman was being set up all the way through this book, I just had no idea who or what to believe so I guess that proves how well this book is written. I love this author anyway but in the latest novel we meet Alexa who is struggling with her daughter Florence and is grateful for the help and support of her sister Carrie who is currently livening with her and her husband. When Carrie is suspended from work and arrested under suspicion of a terrible crime Alexa doesn’t know who to believe and then when people start questioning the safety of her own daughter with her sister Alexa struggles to find out the truth about what’s going on and if her sister really is capable of such a horrible crime.

Carrie is a nurse accused of a crime. Carrie is close with her sister Alexa and lives with her and her family. However, Alexa’s husband doesn’t like it at all. After her niece, Florence, is injured in her care, how will she convince her family that she is not the bad guy? This thriller is full of twists and turns and suspense. It is a great psychological thriller that gives the reader a reason to keep turning the pages. I would highly recommend this book to any fans of thrillers!

This book is mainly about Alexa and her sister, Carrie, who currently lives with Alexa and her family after her marriage fell apart. She has been accused of some terrible crimes at the hospital where she's a ward manager. It's made all the more chilling by the fact that Alexa has a baby daughter, Florence, who Carrie regularly cares for, and adores. At least, that's what Alexa and her husband, Perry, have always thought. Now with these accusations, they are unsure how to react, and keep their relationship with Carrie while also keeping their daughter safe.

That's pretty much it for the story, most of it is spent with Alexa fiercely denying that Carrie could have committed the crimes she accused of while more and more evidence makes Carrie seem guilty. And even when Florence is injured while being alone in Carrie's care, Alexa still won't change her mind. It's a bit repetitive, with a lot of internal dialogue by Alexa going back and forth about maybe actually starting to doubt Carrie and then instantly regretting even thinking of doing so. Frustrating to read, as any mother would surely put her child first above her sister, even just to be on the safe side!

It's hard to side with any of the characters, really, as Carrie doesn't help herself by acting more guilty by the day and constantly lying. Alexa is just a weak mess who constantly jeopardizes her child and defends her sister above all else. Perry seems to be the only logical one, but then a sub-plot is thrown in (unnecessarily, to me) that faults his character, as well. At least the mystery surrounding the accusations against Carrie remains until the very end, and many readers won't see the end result coming. It did keep my interest until the end, but I really wish there was more depth and likability to the characters so that I could have been more engaged in the story.

Alexa doesn't know what she would do without her sister Carrie who lives with Alexa, her husband Parrie and their one year old daughter Florence. Carrie provides much needed support with Florence and adores her. So when Carrie is suspended from work and arrested for a terrible crime, Alexa is shocked but doesn't believe her sister is guilty. However Alexa's husband doesn't trust Carrie and even suggests she could harm their daughter, causing tension between him and Alexa. Then when Florence is hurt while in Carrie's care, Alex begins to wonder if her sister really could be guilty of the crimes.... And could she reveal Alexa's secret...?

A brilliant, gripping thriller that keeps you reading and wondering until the end. The characters were fantastic. the plot tense and enthralling, and the twists and turns made the book just brilliant. I can't recommend this book enough, another amazing book from K. L. Slater.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of the book in return for my honest feedback.

An excellent domestic thriller! The characters were well drawn and the storyline flowed seamlessly. The mystery kept me guessing until the very end. Highly recommended!

K.L. Slater’s books are always highly readable - good escapism at a time when escapism is sorely needed.

New mother Alexa is very dependent on her elder sister Carrie, particularly as her husband (Alexa’s) works away on an oil rig for weeks at a time. Alexa clearly suffers from anxiety, finding it hard to even go out at all without Carrie’s support.

Carrie works as a ward manager in A&E, and when a whistleblower flags up suspicious deaths on the ward - including a six month old baby - finds herself suspect number one. Alexa can’t believe her sister could be guilty, and yet... can she really trust her with her own baby, Florence?

A quick and enjoyable read. The twist came a bit out of the blue and I’m not entirely sure how it fits in with some of the earlier narrative towards the beginning of the book. I certainly didn’t anticipate it, anyway.

I’m not sure I understand the title though. Which girl? Who is “she”?

Loved this , as usual . You know what your getting with a K L Slater and i really wasn't disappointed . Alexa is mum to young baby Florence , her sister Carrie is staying with them after her marriage breakdown much to the annoyance of Alexa's husband Perry . When Carrie is suspended and arrested after a couple of unexplained deaths on her ward and Florence is injured whilst in her care Alexa really starts to doubt Carrie , with the police and social workers involved the future looks bleak for Carrie , but of course that would be too straight forward . Some good twists and turns and as usual an excellent , fast paced , packed read . 5 stars from me

Another excellent psychological thriller by one of my favourite authors KL Slater. Great characters, addictive plot, suspense and lots of twists and turns.
Carrie is a senior nurse and is suspended from her job when she is accused of a terrible crime. Carrie lives with her younger sister Alexa and family following the break up of her own relationship. Carrie loves her one-year-old niece Florence and Alexa who has always looked up to her sister knows how caring Carrie is to her daughter, feeling safe with her around. Alexa's husband doesn’t trust Carrie and wants her to leave the family home fearing that Carrie would harm his daughter. This is something Alexa cannot accept and will never let anybody come between her and her sister. This all changes when Florence is hurt while in Carrie’s care and Alexa at last starts to wonder.
I would like to thank both Netgalley and Bookouture for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

My jaw was dropped.
Sister love is the most precious thing in the world for another sister, isn't it? A sister can protect you, love you, care for you, want your baby?
Alexa loved Carrie doesn't matter anyone in the world say anything about her. She's her previous sister. She would never hurt her or so she thought.
Florence, another beautiful character of a baby girl who's cooing whenever Carrie is around.
Both sisters had a secret. And now that secret will tore their family apart.
Read this book to know more about the story and what happened in the end.
Kim is doing good with psychological thriller novels.
