Such a beautifully illustrated children’s book! Originally published in 2006, I had never seen this book before, so it was a pleasure to discover it on NetGalley. I was sent a free digital copy by the publishers on NetGalley for my honest review.

I loved the colourful, detailed artwork in this book. A lovely festive story about a Dragon trying to save Christmas. I enjoyed the rhyming text, which would make it a nice book to read aloud to a child. This really put me in a Christmassy mood!

The only issue I had was that the text was occasionally a little hard to read when white text overlapped the illustrations, but this might not be the same with a printed copy.

This is quite a sweet story of adventure and fun on Christmas Eve. However there were a few issues with punctuation and the flow of the rhyme which made reading it a bit halted. I liked the illustrations and thought the general idea of the story was good. My son who is 8 enjoyed the story and liked the recipe at the end. With a few tweaks and an editor, this book would be 5 stars.

This was a wonderful story about how Duffy was asked to save Christmas (spolier - Duffy was able to save Christmas). The illustrations are beautiful and whimsical. I love the inscription page; this book would make a fantastic gifting option for the young readers in your life.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

On the hunt for a Christmassy story for young relatives I stumbled across this book. With stunning illustrations, even in black and white on a Kindle, and a lovely rhyming approach to story telling this book definitely makes the list. Recommended for small people for Christmas.

This book may have actually been published in 2006, but NetGalley just gave me a copy of it. I thought this story was really cute. It may have been a little predictable, but it is very whimsical and a pleasure to read. I enjoyed how it included his recipe in the back, I would definitely consider picking up this book as a gift.

Duffy The Christmassy Dragon is a rhyming cozy Christmas children's illustrated book by Kate Noble about Duffy, the king's dragon unexpected Christmas adventure helping Santa after he's left all alone at home.
It's the perfect story on a cold winter's night for the tiny tots with it's cute storyline, rustic illustrations and there's even a recipe at the end for Podgepickle Stew which was unexpected and reading it was hilarious.

A special little Christmas book. Whimsical pictures of a red winged dragon helping Santa and his reindeer deliver presents on Christmas eve. It is a quick, fun read for youngsters that could be read each and every year. Duffy is a sweet dragon left alone for the night by the King who went to visit his Aunt. Duffy saves the night with his cool fiery breath making the rooftops safe for Santa and his reindeer to land.

The story of a good dragon that saved Christmas.
Santa Claus is having troubles with his reindeer landing in roofs because of the frost so he asks Duffy to assist him and with his fire to melt the frost.
A story about love, help and dreams coming true

I'm so torn on how to rate and review Duffy the Christmassy Dragon. On the hand, as the reader, I don't care for the writing at all. On the other hand, my 3.5 yr old son asked me to read it back to back multiple times. He mostly loves that there's a dragon who blows fire and has little critter friends, not so much the story, but still, I can't deny he really enjoyed it.

I must review that the writing needs another edit. Badly. This was a chore to read aloud. The words, metre, and rhymes bumped along in my mouth, requiring much effort on my part. Not to mention that there's a grammatical issue in the beginning and more than one failed rhyme. This poor dragon is constantly questioning his reality--whether something was real or a dream. That's a lazy story writing tool that gets under my skin as the reader. Poor dragon. It's long, clunky, and at times doesn't make much sense.

What really shines is the illustrating. The ink and watercolor, folksy style is everything I could ask for in a kid's book. Colorful, whimsical, inspiring, active.

Thank you NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Charming story of a dragon who felt alone as his friend the king went to visit his aunt for Christmas. He was feeling sad so cooked quite a meal with his friends. As he drifted off to sleep with a full stomach, Santa arrived and asked for help. Duffy set off to melt the ice and snow on roofs so Santa and the reindeer could deliver presents all over.
The rhythm flows smoothly for most of the book - just a couple lyrical breaks. Young readers will love the brightly colored softly focused illustrations. They set a gentle mood for readers to join the action and travel along with Duffy. A great addition to holiday read alouds.

This reminded me of old stories with the nostalgic illustrations. I enjoyed how colorful they were. The cadence of the story was to "Twas the Night Before Christmas. A unique take on a Christmas story.

Children just want to fantasize and see the world in a slightly different way. Fairies, mermaids, miraculous creatures, talking animals ... are just some of the things that children need to understand the world around them.

Parents as well as teachers have a huge burden of responsibility towards children. Although there are many modern and up-to-date tools and applications that can help, books are still one of the best choices for educating children.

‘Duffy The Christmassy Dragon’ by Kate Noble, a cute story about a dragon called Duffy who helps Santa and his reindeer on Christmas Eve is a great choice for a good night story. Rhymed stories and interesting events are especially appealing to children, and beautiful illustrations will allow them to be fully immersed in the story.
But what honestly amazed me was the fact that the main character in the story was a dragon, something that is typically associated with evil, a bad creature that only hurts and harms. Showing Duffy as a hero is a fantastic choice for the author, as it gives children a great chance to get closer to the realization that looks can be deceiving. If something looks nice and good, it does not necessarily mean that it is and vice versa. Children need to understand that they should not be deceived by the appearance of things.
Another thing that honestly sparked a discussion between me and my daughter is the friendship between Turtle the cat, Mizzle the mouse and Duffy the dragon. "But mom, won't the dragon eat them?" And "How can they be friends?" are just some of the questions we discussed. The well-inserted message that diversity is a wonderful thing and not to be judged by looks touched my child's ears, and raised even more questions about true friendship.

Yes, there may be imperfect rhymes, as I read in some of the reviews, but children do not seek perfection. They are looking for a topic that will be interesting and presented in a way that they will be able to understand, and this book definitely contains all those qualities, and is a great choice for a wonderful read with children.
