Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

A fast paced easy thriller with a great ending. The characters were great and I really enjoyed the change between Chloe past and present and the little snippets of Zadie whilst the story unfolded. It had short sharp chapters which is what I enjoy in books as they make you want to keep reading. The story was a great mix between the dark and glamorous plot. A highly recommended read.

Interesting relationship-driven plot but I didn't find it as gripping as I expected and felt very little connection to any of the characters,

I wasn’t sure how this book was gonna go from the synopsis alone- it didn’t seem very original but this ended up being a really enjoyable read, a more light hearted mystery after the darker creepier thrillers of October. The book switched between the past and present, with some small snippets from Zadie and the timelines were wonderfully written leaving you trying to piece bits of information together. I definitely however didn’t think much of Chloe’s decision making..

Even though there were no huge “what the hell” moments, I couldn’t put this down and stayed up until 4am to finish it. Something about the style of writing just really gripped me and made me feel like I was at university with Zadie and Chloe. Gripping, addicting and well written characters— will definitely be keeping an eye out for Reid’s work in the future.

Unfortunately this book was not for me. Other readers may enjoy it more, but I could not get into it and ultimately did not finish it.

I did enjoy this book but unfortunately it didn’t completely grip me. There was something missing I felt but it won’t stop me from reading more books by this author.

Absolutely loved the characters, the plot, the tension -  impossible to put it down.
Certainly recommended!

This was a fast paced thriller. One girl disappears from University and her friend never recovers from her loss. Some years later she decides to find out what happened and makes some bad choices.

Thank you for the copy of this book. I enjoyed it but there is something I just can't put my finger on as to why I cannot say it was a great ready. Good storyline, well written but there was something missing for me - that is just my opinion.

This was a good read but could have been more thrilling. It explored friendships between Chloe and Zydie and then Zydie disappeared. and left Chloe guilty. When she got the opportunity to make things right 15 years later, everything was at stake. The Plotline was great but the delivery felt a bit disjointed. I couldn't connect to any of the characters. could have been better.

Rebeca Reid's novel looks at the relationship between Chloe and Zadie and Zadie's subsequent disappearance. I found this to be a disturbing read with unlikeable characters that I could not connect to. I found the writing to be underdeveloped but it was an easy and quick read if this genre appeals to the reader.

When middle-class Chloe meets posh Zadie in university, her life changes forever. Obsessed with her new friend, who belongs to such a different world, she spends as much time as possible with her and her charming boyfriend Max. Nevertheless, something goes wrong and, after a fatal night, Chloe and Zadie stop talking to each other. After more than a decade, the truth about that night starts to unfold...

Ok. It’s an ok book. I liked the author’s style and I certainly read it very quickly, which is a good sign. BUT. There are so many things missing here. So many connections. I would have liked to know more about the inception of Chloe’s obsession for Zadie: we know everything about how it unfolds, but nothing about how it REALLY starts. What’s the psychological process behind it. Honestly, I think that the main issue of this book is that the characters are quite flat and their reasons never completely clear (and not in a good way). Nevertheless, I was enjoying the book until I reached the 60% and Chloe started making up “clever plans” to ruin Max and, believe me, there is really nothing clever in there. I never particularly liked Chloe but, from that moment on, it was just pure downfall. I seriously wondered if perhaps Chloe was... how can I say this kindly... stupid? I mean, come on! I don’t know. There were other things which didn’t convince me, and all of them point in the direction of a loose plot and - perhaps - not too much enthusiasm in writing it. I don’t feel like giving it 2 stars because it is overall a pleasurable read, but it did make my eyes roll more than once.

This story is set in both past & present & is told from Chloe & Zadie’s viewpoints.
Took me a while to settle in to the different time lines but then it all started to come together.
Chloe is married to Rav who she met during her university days.
She has spent the last 15 years trying to find some clue, as to why her friend Zadie disappeared on the night of her boyfriend Max’s 21st birthday bash.
She always felt as though she had let her friend down & now she wants answers.
Zadie was Chloe’s roommate but stayed off campus with longtime boyfriend Max.
She would get Chloe to cover for her whenever her parents visited.
Chloe enraptured by new friend Zadie & her crowd spends so much time partying her course work starts to suffer badly.
Unfortunately Chloe seems unaware Zadie is one mixed up troubled girl.
This was an intriguing interesting story line enjoyable, but I wouldn’t label it as suspense thriller.

Huge fan of this author and this is another absolutely superb read. I have nothing negative I can say about this book. It has been a great read filled with interesting characters and a unique plot.

This book is set over two timelines .
The first is when Chloe goes to university and meets up with Zadie who gets her into the world of partying and drugs.
The second is set 15 years later where Chloe is married to Rav who she met at university.
Chloe has felt guilty that she has not been able to track Zadie down since an incident at university.
This book is dark with plenty of twists.
It certainly keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Thanks NetGalley

A tale of love & friendship, but also of how a friend can manipulate you without you realising. The story starts with two people innocently meeting at university & how their lives spiral & conclude in an ending you will not anticipate

Well that's left me a bit speechless. I was not sure what to expect and I thought I had it sussed but what an ending! The whole plot is brilliant, its full of tension and its dark. Its the kind of book that leaves you a bit lost when you've finished, but in a really good way.
